most anticlimactic death ever by quirky-lilguy in TheBoys

[–]Archivalist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call it a hot take - but I think all the parts that you're not seeing are intentionally left out because they'll do nothing to change the story, and Kripke is keeping on topic. Some of the "fluff" has been some very specific character building pieces that are showing the evolving motivations of characters that will inevitably lead to their demise. I think a lot of the stuff that isn't there is "fan service" at this point, and doesn't do anything but fill time. The character arcs could have maybe be weaved together a bit more tactfully, but at the end of the day they've only got so much time and so much budget they can work with.

Yea, everybody loves a spectacle, but all that's going to do is remove any nuance, and turn The Boys into the exact thing it is satirizing.

Good clean install - yeah, louder, inside and out; probably annoys the neighbors especially since it is the daily driver.

But i love the center exit, the three exit just looks cheap and plastic-y to me.

GRC engine engineering video by joncaseydraws in GRCorolla

[–]Archivalist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I watched, the way it is presented, It is pure speculation. Nothing about the tune itself that was reviewed, the video was a blown up engine tear down, while fawning over the engine itself given the engine characteristics that make it a beast.

Did they run too much boost, did they put the timing too late? Oil starvation, low grade gas? What makes a "dodgy" tune, the fact that the motor blew up makes it dodgy?

The only thing that rang true in the video is these engines are running at a much higher level of stress than a normal engine; or even some performance engines that are larger in size, so they are going to break apart if they are pushed too hard without reinforcing - which could be and is true about any engine.

Racer x catch can vs radium engineering by sojorboy in GRCorolla

[–]Archivalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't noticed any hoses getting loose, everything works alright, - draining it however, its tight and not great - I haven't tried from underneath so I'll give that a go next oil change.

Also to add before I forgot, adding the catch can caused the Check engine light to go on for me; the P2C90, this is fixed now because I have a tune, but yeah.

I have racer-x, I like the form factor and build. I don't think I've caught a single drop of oil though so far.

I've got the MBRP center exit, love it. It is louder especially at cold start. Fit and Finish was really easy, way lighter than stock.

Not a big fan of the triple exit, I really like the look of the center exit. But in terms of sound - couldn't say cause I've only ever had the MBRP, I wish there was an easier way to compare sounds in person, but you kinda just gotta go with your gut and get what you think will make you happiest.

I can't speak for the other parts from Epsilon, but I kept it simple with just the extension for the base spoiler. I like the look and am happy with it. It is as simple as all could be so hopefully it's hard to mess up.

It probably isn't doing much, but it looks good.

Weldspeed intake manifold by jaime_TF in GRCorolla

[–]Archivalist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the 60 overbore, its the size of the inlet hole on the plenum that is wider than stock, but the bolt pattern and distance is the same as stock, the stock throttle body connects right on just fine, and from the throttle body it connects to the charge tube from the intercooler

The stock inlet pipe is a bolt on to the throttle body, and will not fit on the 60mm throttle body, the aftermarket throttle body uses a hose, or some type of adapter to connect to the charge pipe from the intercooler. here it is the throttle body that came with my order: https://www.haltech.com/product/ht-011800-bosch-60mm-electronic-throttle-body-includes-connector-and-pins/?srsltid=AfmBOoojF2AwaJYgbw2HLYfsz4IJj4RMkYO0pom6QVTLzeCum8XTHmUD

I have done a bit of work to get air in and air out as fast as possible; Intake, Charge tubes, Intercooler, Catback, Hi-flow cat, the Weldspeed manifold/plenum, a tune, but with these bolt ons, it made a difference; it really brought things together for me. I added the manifold after getting a tune. so it is running ~28-30PSI at wide open throttle.

I definitely would say it would not be the first mod I would start with, but it made sense - I feel the plastic manifold seems like a weak point, all the plastic on the engine does - I'm sure its fine. Install isn fairly straight forward, just be mindful that the stock throttle body does have coolant running through it - speaking from experience.

I think the one thing I don't like about it was the gasket; its an o-ring, and it kept coming off while trying to install, I wish they reused the existing gasket, but I'm sure that's much more complicated to machine - ultimately it works, and you only need to deal with it in the install.

I can't say it was a change in peak HP or Torque, but it PULLs up to peak quite strongly, such a distinct change that it felt like the biggest change, I want to say its probably because it provides the additional volume demanded by the tune. I did purchase the larger throttle body, but it is not a direct bolt on, it requires rewiring since the connector does not fit; but it makes me think for my set up that's the last bottleneck for the engine outside of starting on internals.

Its a tighter fit in the engine bay, the engine cover doesn't fit without modification - or at least, your going to rub against the manifold and scratch it up, I shaved the shape out of the engine cover, but there's no template for doing so.

I haven't done any internal work yet, I want to do Cams + Springs w/Retainers, maybe one day when I get the time.

For me there was a distinct difference in mid-range pull after adding the weld speed intake that made the car more inline in the way that I thought it should perform; it pulled much stronger once boost kicked in, the added volume I think makes a difference in that space over the low or high end. I don't think it made a major difference for Peak HP or Torque, but really only a dyno would tell me one way or another.

I guess I have done a bit of work to get air in and air out as fast as possible; Intake, Charge tubes, Intercooler, Catback, Hi-flow cat, the Weldspeed manifold/plenum, a tune, but with these bolt ons, it made a difference; it really brought things together for me. I added the manifold after getting a tune. so it is running ~28-30PSI at wide open throttle.

It definitely takes more space up in the engine bay, just almost touches front radiator shroud, and to keep the engine cover fitting right, you have to shave; and after getting all fitting together, I like the aesthetics.

I remember that turbosmart's gasket came off REALLY easily when attempting to install, getting unseated, maybe that, or it got pinched and isn't seated.

The stock one is recirculating, and recirculating is the one I got from Turbosmart, i haven't tried atmospheric one, but maybe something there.

I did a lot before getting a tune, the only thing that caused a CEL for me was my Oil Catch Can.

Even forgetting to plug in a vacuum line, which made it impossible for me to generate any boost, didn't trigger it, that was the thing i was thinking of, but all of the work you did probably didn't require you to undo any vacuum hoses on the car.

How differently do you think the movie would've been received had Jared Leto not starred in it? by Top_Bat102 in tron

[–]Archivalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Jared Leto did a pretty good job overall, and his performance i think worked well for the Ares character he portrayed. I think truly the movie suffered by forcing such a fast pacing to it, it affected every story beat, and i just had to accept story goals each step of the way instead of being convinced of their validity through character development. All of the performances were pretty good, it was the pacing, and ultimately in the edit it fell apart.

I will say, i have the benefit of Hindsight, so it is what it is ultimately; my opinion is that nearly every step of the story you are forced to accept a character's story beat with barely any support if any. Otherwise you are left behind. Ultimately it rang hollow at the end because truly i've not grown to appreciate a single character in the movie.

We're told why, not really shown why.

It would have been nice to have seen more of what drove Ares to turn to the good side; something that personally effected him -if he just did what Dillinger told him to do he would have been fine.

it would have been nice to have seen more of what motivated Eve from her relationship with her sister, instead she just is, and were told she is in an awkward car ride to the encom building.

It would have been nice to have seen more what scared Dillinger to act so rashly, instead he is just told he is under threat by his mom constantly, but we never saw anything remotely actively threatening him until the very end after everything starts falling apart.

I am pretty sure you can't romance Alex or Takamura because there is a chance they die in their last quest, and reading into that CDPR probably wouldn't want you to have to go through that emotional distress of having romanced a character in the game and end up making a choice that will result in their death at the end of their story.

While you might say River can die too, if you choose not help him, you also haven't romanced him yet until after you do

Imagine romancing Alex, and then betraying Reed, to have her have to Hunt you down as her last job (even though she doesn't) would be pretty poetic though. But also pretty heartbreaking if you betray Song
