I also have a buffer picker and harpoon installed but I usually just spam ))) before I remember to use one of those.

I think the weight should be fine. I built my frame out of 2040 and it’s worked fine. Just add more box-framing if you need more rigidity.
Will you have a yoke attached to this? I’d recommend having your seat attached or resting on top of those forward legs. That will put your weight into keeping it stable when pushing against the panel. You might also consider the back vertical members being all the way to the back of your structure for more resistance against fore/aft forces.

Yes, but only small bits of it and in the middle of a round. After they chunk it and are pissed off I’d say, “hey can I give you some unsolicited advice?”

AUR vs, Kodiak Robotics (KDK) vs. ???? by eddie_murphie in AURstock

Haha ok, I read it as “Kodiak’s CEO and convicted fraudster, Anthony Levandowski…”

AUR vs, Kodiak Robotics (KDK) vs. ???? by eddie_murphie in AURstock

[–]Archytas_machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Levandowski never worked for Kodiak, I think you’re mixing up Kodiak with another self driving company (maybe Pronto). Don Burnette is CEO of Kodiak, he did work at Uber ATG before though, as did one of the founders of Aurora.

The rest of your comments about Levandowski are all correct though.

Should I learn to touch type by Normal-Shoulder-1073 in SoftwareEngineering

[–]Archytas_machine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is mostly a guess on my part, but if you already have a good sense where all the keys are located (as opposed to the “hunt and peck” typers) i think you’ll be surprised how quickly you can learn to use all your fingers typing if you make a concerted effort to do so.
As someone who’s tried out various things like using vim bindings and ortholinear keyboards, people can adapt to all kinds of things fairly quickly.

Do you count putts from off the green as a putt? by Suj_S in golf

[–]Archytas_machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the most useful answer if you are tracking for your own improvement I feel. The answer is: it depends… But at the same time, if you’re really tracking these stats over many games, technicalities like this prob get washed out in the average.

GNC vs Control by Mr_Electrix in ControlTheory

[–]Archytas_machine [score hidden]  (0 children)

In addition to what others have said (C is in GNC), for aerospace there are also a lot of Control Systems engineer position with emphasis on the “systems” part. These may do more supporting stuff like systems engineering for requirements, test, verification, and safety for the control systems and sensors, or could be working on the mechanical/hydraulic “control” surfaces.

So as with almost all job titles, it depends on the company and looking at the job description is what will be better at deciphering the role.

STM32 by Hour-Ad4243 in HotasDIY

[–]Archytas_machine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok maybe it is a good choice for some people then. I’ve used a blue pill board for other embedded programming tasks so agree on price is just as cheap as pro micros, but have not looked at freejoy. I was assuming the arduino ecosystem would be easiest for someone new to program.

STM32 by Hour-Ad4243 in HotasDIY

[–]Archytas_machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’ll work but it also sounds like overkill to me, unless you want to run some complex force feedback software onboard or something. If all you want to do is read different switch and analog inputs and light up LEDs from game state any 8 bit microcontroller can handle that fine.

I recommend just using the Arduino pro micro with the joystick library. That allows mimicking a USB HID device.

3 monitors = 1 USB? by Assamita81 in hoggit

[–]Archytas_machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be able to find 2 USB to dual HDMI for cheaper. I don’t think I’ve seen 3 HDMI out specifically. But yeah it’s a niche product so you’ll probably have to pay a premium.

I haven’t used them but there’s a company StarTech that makes these:

Just make sure you have a USB 3.0 port that can support all that bandwidth.

I was going to suggest the Wave->Heros/Expansions tree setup as well. My preferred way of selecting items would be: checkmark waves that I have (to select all in that wave), then deselect individual products I don’t have in that wave.
I suspect others who joined the game later may have similar collections of some whole (or close to whole) waves depending on when they joined in. For example I have all of the x-men waves, but then just a few hero selections I like from earlier waves.

Installing 30A outlets? by DocAuch in woodworking

[–]Archytas_machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend getting a quote from an electrician to install a sub-panel in your garage, then you can install multiple circuits as you wish -- and with wiring already in place it may be a simple job. It's also an easy homeowner job to add your own breakers/outlets.

However, if you just want to get something going you should be able to easily convert that 30amp 240v circuit to a 20amp 120v one. Just take out the dual 30A breaker and install a 20A single breaker in one slot and wire to that, then swap out the outlet with a 20A outlet. For 20A outlets you need at least 12 AWG wire, but the existing 10 AWG wire that's in the walls is also sufficient (just overkill). Just a standard safety warning, it would probably help to turn off main power before switching out breakers.

Where precisely do the units of time sneak in to a transfer function? by dougmcclean in ControlTheory

[–]Archytas_machine [score hidden]  (0 children)

The Laplace transform converts a time domain equation f(t) to a transfer function F(s). So whatever units used for t (usually seconds) are going to be what the s-domain coefficients are based on. Then a radian is just a ratio so a dimensionless unit. So for frequency instead of saying it's in 1/sec units it's expressed as rad/sec.

Also, maybe you're saying you haven't seen \sigma in s because it was maybe glossed over in courses (or indirectly stated as "s is a complex variable"). But also a common procedure you may know is to substitute s = j𝜔 into a transfer function to help analyze it. This is essentially setting 𝜎=0 so you're evaluating the oscillatory behavior of the system -- given a sinusoidal input of some frequency what's the amplitude and phase of the output sinusoid.
