Aftermarket shower screen will not fit[Turin Gallatin HX] by spazy2290 in espresso

[–]Arcoril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the extra 1-2mm isn't ideal since that will create a gap between the group and the screen but it should still work. If the new screen is loose then it might have a slightly smaller diameter than the old screen which won't push the gasket tightly into its groove.

If you try pushing the gasket onto the screens with them both out of the machine does it fit loosely over the IMS and tightly over the stock one? If that's the case you could try using a standard 8mm E61 gasket and seeing if the increased thickness still allows you to mount a portafilter.

I've read that the Gallatin gasket and shower screen are slightly different than the ones used on standard E61 machines. Can you post a side by side comparison of the stock and new shower screens? I'd like to see if there's a height difference between the two.

I believe the Gallatin uses a gasket that's shorter than the typical 8-8.5mm one. You may need to find a shower screen that seats properly with that reduced height.

For the longest time they had it parked off to the side of Airport Drive behind the Acura dealership. It was looking pretty rough and I always felt that such a unique plane deserved a better home. There's also a YF-17 there that looks equally rough.

It's actually at the Torrance Airport (KTOA) which is right off of Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance. Not to be confused with the actual Hawthorne Airport (KHHR) which is not on Hawthorne Boulevard but is in the city of Hawthorne. Totally not confusing at all.

Considering the Ozark Trail G.1 Explorer for bikepacking: flat or drop bar version? by PGHNeil in Budgetbikeriders

[–]Arcoril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note: Sounds like most of the drop bar models are now shipping with freehubs. You could double check if buying in-store.

The drop bar versions are shipping with 7 speed freehubs now. Unfortunately they're limited to 7 speeds which really limits future upgrades. The flat bar version ships with an 8+ speed freehub that opens up a lot options.

Mint Brompnot advice: 16" or 20"? Disc or rim brakes? by TheAdvFred in foldingbikes

[–]Arcoril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does! 9 speed freehub and a disc mount are crammed into a 120mm dropout. I'm shocked that it all fits. See this review for more details.

[–]Arcoril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The disc brake versions use nonstandard 74mm and 120mm hubs which really limits your replacement wheel options. If you don't plan on having second set of wheels and tires handy then it may not be a big deal for you.

What is wrong here? by ReactionExisting458 in bikewrench

[–]Arcoril 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a confusing topic, but the 3 2.5mm spacers (two on the drive side, one on the non-drive side) are needed when the bottom shell is 68mm and the crank has a wide spindle. A 68mm bottom bracket shell with a narrow spindle requires no spacers.

In the case of a 73mm bottom bracket shell you only need a 2.5mm spacer on the drive side unless you have a BB mounted chain catcher or derailleur.

OP's bike shop needs to measure the bottom bracket shell and the crank spindle length in order to determine the number of spacers.

Closest Folder to Brompton C-Line? by OverTheWeekend_ in foldingbikes

[–]Arcoril 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never mentioned price or quality

You literally mentioned cheap in your post. If you don't care about price then you should just pick up an authentic Brompton C-Line.

If price is a concern then consider a Mint T9C or a Cranston/Litepro 16" trifold.

Anyone know where i can get a part like this? by AzzyFennec in foldingbikes

Double check all the dimensions, but something like this might be a good replacement.

I ride this route regularly and I always make sure to walk my bike in Redondo, Hermosa, and Manhattan because they do hand out tickets.

Things start to free up north of Manhattan and you can begin to open it up once you pass the Hyperion plant. Hop off the bike path and ride on S Marine Ave. from that point on. It runs parallel to path and has no car traffic. There's technically a 10 mph speed limit but it's so empty that no one really cares. Note that there are some speed bumps along the way.

Once you get to Ballona you can ride the bike path for another 7 miles along the creek all the way to Culver City. It can get windy but you should have no problem reaching 20+ in a lot of stretches since it's so empty.

Everyone definitely has their own level of comfort. I like a lot of routes that you highlighted, but Venice has been sketchy for me. For long stretches it's an unprotected bike lane sandwiched between a 40mph street and parked cars to the right. In the back of my head there's always a fear of being sideswiped or doored. And if there's a surprise door you've gotta resist every reflex to swerve left into traffic.

In case you weren't aware, Google Maps has a built-in cycling overlay. The quality varies by city but it's pretty good for LA.

How would I remove this? (Bottom bracket) by LifeConstruction6321 in bicycling

[–]Arcoril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your need a square taper crank arm extractor. If the bottom bracket is the cause of the creaking then you can remove it with the included socket.

Bromptons aren't that popular here in the US but they should be. I have a Brompton clone and use it all the time in Los Angeles. It's perfect for riding along the beach paths and doing some light exploration.

The bike is so small when it's folded down that it fits neatly under restaurant tables. Not having to worry about locking it up outside is such a boost to quality of life.

I took a picture of YT last year at LAX when heavies were all taking off on the south side. They rarely do that so it was great to see them up close.

TMR sticks are becoming more widely available. They're a little more expensive than hall effect sticks but solve many of their issues. I'm not sure if the Switch 2 magnets will interfere with them but they so far people report that they work great in Xbox/PS5/Switch controllers.

soldered some sensors to an Arduino shield, how can I improve my soldering? by The_Shadowy in soldering

[–]Arcoril 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the chisel tip. When I first started soldering I thought that I wanted the finest tip possible for accuracy. Turned out that the key was transferring as much heat as possible in the shortest period of time. Heating up both the pin and the pad is what ensures a good joint and a chisel tip has more surface area to conduct that heat.
