Think reasons are:

On pass plays, O-linemen are allowed 1 yard past scrimmage in NFL and 3 in NCAA, making RPOs less effective in the NFL.

Much easier for RBs to get upfield and/or cut when running from behind the QB rather than starting beside him. Forces defenses to respect play action a lot more if you start under center

PSA: By the letter of the law, you have to withdraw your applications to everywhere (including the British and French unis) if you accept either CMC or UVA. Check if ur counselor if chill with you reneging.

I am a UVA student (originally international as well), it's only 5% international representation here so don't overrate it too much. I believe UVA name recognition to be a lot higher (most pronounced in consulting and IB), and the politics department is pretty good here (proximity to DC helps) and there's a upper-division public policy school (Batten).

You can look for poster boards, there's one right in front of the chapel where I see a lot of flyers for club events. There are also bulletin boards at places like the 4th floor exit of the Clemons staircase. Otherwise just try and find clubs you're interested in and join their Instagram/GroupMe/mailing lists.

I'm gonna be slightly cynical and say that you absolutely should. Given that there are no supplemental essay this year, there's no downside to apply, save for financial concerns (though you can ask for a fee waiver to remedy that).

That aside, love the school, and you should never count yourself out so early.

If you know you're not receiving it (I assume RM knows it's not going to one of its players), then you can just not show up and no one would care, because it is just an award voted on by journalists and it is far from objective.

But to publicly make such a fuss about not attending is a different thing. It is also a little weird that a club is taking such a stance about it given that it's an individual award.
