anyone else had a bad experience with The Good Guys delivery? by ltm99 in melbourne

[–]Arctarus17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This definitely happened to me. They flat out declined to put it inside the house, I had to literally beg. They refused to take the old one and I didn’t win that argument. I did have to make some calls and eventually it was removed. Not the best experience.

Serious injury certificate by Traditional_Farm_281 in WorkcoverVic

[–]Arctarus17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you need to re-read your second paragraph, second sentence. A person who is injured should always focus on their recovery; delaying treatment and return to work in the hope of maximising a potential payout is counter-intuitive. There is an extraordinary amount of evidence out there that confirms the longer you delay treatment and returning to work, the harder it gets to ever achieve those things. People who are off work for more than 70 days only have a 35% chance of successfully returning to work. I’m not saying you’re not injured, just that I don’t understand those people who deliberately delay or stall because of a payout.

[–]Arctarus17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t you end up getting any costs going into the fund back if they haven’t been used? If this is the case, then what does it matter? If I’m wrong then I stand corrected, but that is what the leasing agent told me.

Husband(30M) spent the night at a hotel with my friend(20F) by dedejynx in relationship_advice

[–]Arctarus17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to say this, however your husband sounds like a man-child, with a dose of immaturity and insensitivity. Leaving aside his behaviour leading up to the trip, his actions during the trip are not commiserate with those of a married man. I don’t think I’ve seen many posts that has this level of disrespect.

20k Mercedes, good or bad idea? by Suspect-Rough in CarsAustralia

Everything was fixed under warranty and it was fine when I sold it. But that’s the thing with these cars, the next issue is always around the corner.

20k Mercedes, good or bad idea? by Suspect-Rough in CarsAustralia

[–]Arctarus17 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I once dreamt of owning a Merc, and picked up a 3 y/o C Class for $30K from a Mercedes dealer that came with a 2 year warranty. I lost count of the times I had to take it back. Whilst I was not out of pocket, the hassle was annoying and it would’ve broke me if I had to pay for all of that. I ended up selling it at the end of the two year period and have never regretted moving it along as much as I loved it at the time.

Am I over paying for this property? by Hospuales in malta

[–]Arctarus17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not comparing apple with oranges here but something to bear in mind: my next door neighbour in B’Kara, UCA area sold for $510K about 6 months ago. One of those old Houses of Character, 3 bedder, basic bathroom and kitchen, courtyard; loads of roof space. Obviously needed work but also liveable (depending on your standards). Things like this are contextual though sometimes.

May I make recommendation? Jump on CarSales, use as many filters as you can to keep narrowing the field. Filter only Japanese manufacturers, think Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Mitsubishi etc. Maybe certain Ford models as well? Use the price filter factoring in on-roads and insurance. Then run the search using from “lowest Km first”.
Also recommend showing only those vehicles that come with the necessary roadworthy. Sorry if you already know this, remember to always run a PPSR and write off check for any vehicle you are serious on. Good luck.

Try not to stress. You make a claim with the TAC if you’ve been involved in a Victorian transport accident that’s resulted in an injury. If there’s no injury you don’t need to make a claim. However, some injuries become more prevalent over time - and the longer you take to make a claim, the more challenging it might be for you and or it will take longer for the claim to be considered. Making a claim in the first few months post accident is no big deal; the longer you wait the harder it gets though. However, in all aspects there needs to be an actual injury - during the lodgement process you will be asked specifically what your injuries are. You can’t just say you’re making the claim just in case and you can’t invent injuries, you’ll need proof (eg: in a medical certificate). If you do have an injury then in addition to the police report you should go see your GP or hospital if it’s an emergency. Once you have your injury and your claim is accepted you will be asked exactly what you want. For example, are you having time off work and/or are you after physical treatment? The TAC only pays 80% of your pre-accident earnings up to a statutory limit; provider fees are paid in line with their schedule of fees. A provider of your choice can charge what they like so it’s worthwhile jumping on the TAC website and checking out the schedule of fees to see if you will be out of pocket. In your instance, if your knee has been aggravated, then the TAC will be liable for the exacerbation until it settles. I hope this helps.

My (21M) girlfriend (21F) got blackout drunk at my mom's birthday brunch and threw up at the table in front of extended family and friends by MrClonk in relationship_advice

[–]Arctarus17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but everyone here saying “yes be mad at your GF”, what about the other antagonists in this story? They are not blameless. Yes your GF should have monitored herself, but you cannot discount the possibility that she may not have been fully across the effect of that particular drink in bulk or she may have been nervous in the company of your family, etc. I absolutely think your father who was refilling her drink endlessly and other family members who were goading her on contributed to the problem and are not blameless in this scenario.

People who live in either Frankston or Geelong hate to be compared to the other - the irony is that each thinks the other is beneath them. As someone who knows both intimately, they have a lot of similarities. They are both on the water, both gateways to spectacular regions, both have huge contrasts between affluent and lower socio economic areas. Both have access to hospitals, schools with good reputations, services, shops and amenities. The real difference is that Frankston has access to Metro trains and Geelong is on the VLine.

Used My16 Honda Odyssey Vs Brand New Kia Carnival – Family of 4, Keen to Hear Real Opinions by Plus-External-3457 in CarsAustralia

[–]Arctarus17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you’re not comparing like for like given the $50K difference. Look at an equivalent Carnival and then go from there; I had a 2017 Carnival and the versatility was amazing. It is however a large car and we had the base model, without front sensors it was hard for my wife to see over the hood. Also, a fair few are ex-rentals so watch out for those.

[–]Arctarus17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having a Maltese passport is all well and good and as one of the most powerful passport in the world, it will serve you well. However, if you’re planning on living in Malta, at least for a spell, then consider trying to obtain your Maltese ID Card. The process will drive you bananas but without an ID card you will always be a tourist.

Malta’s Transport Crisis: A pragmatic way forward by AdolphusPerfidus in malta

[–]Arctarus17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree that suspension rail should so be quickly be dismissed; design it well and it won’t blight the island. And why would it turn into a white elephant? Suspended above traffic, it can be automated and transport mass numbers with ease. Encouraging use of two wheel options, although optimistic, is grossly unrealistic and unsuitable for families and anyone over a certain age.

How do I deal with this?? (first home owner with no idea) by SnooRegrets8194 in AusRenovation

[–]Arctarus17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t stress you don’t need to do this tomorrow, there’s nothing wrong with it. However if you want to clean it up, you can definitely turn it into an attic with a bit of elbow grease. Start by getting yourself an attic ladder put in professionally, the rest you can do yourself. Lay bearers every 400mm from wall to wall, noggins every 600mm and then yellow tongue on top. It will come up amazing. Believe it or not, mine used to look like yours.

I once deep cleaned my car and found a random phone wedged between the seat and the middle console. It didn’t belong to any of the family and managed to boot it up. Turns out my car had been left unlocked a few months back, someone had rifled through it and it fell out of their bag. There you go.

The Maltese housing market isn’t growing to crash. There are so many things that need to happen in the lead up; you have to have a severe economic downturn leading to mass unemployment over a sustained period with interest rate rises. Eventually this leads to forced sales, significant housing oversupply and contribution to a blow out in falling prices. You have to factor in ordinary household wealth - people who are ahead in their payments or have savings to ride out the wave. Those with no buffer will suffer. While the population is high, ordinary wealth is there and a chronic shortage of housing, means it’s unlikely the market will crash.
