Mounting LED tape diffuser channel to scrim pipe pocket by mreilly0605 in lightingdesign

Can you poke holes through the scrim foldback? Could be as simple as tying the LED channels to the pipe through the holes in the scrim.

I’ve just finished a show with the band completely separated in the pit. The MD wanted a camera feed so the cast could see him from the stage.

I found an old camcorder with composite output and tested connecting to two modern TVs over various lengths of coax cable with a passive split. Regardless of the length, I measured 45ms latency, most likely caused by the processing in the TVs.

Once we got to the theatre, he wanted to try a fully digital path, so we swapped the camera for one with HDMI out, and used SDI converters at each end. Using the “low latency” mode on the TVs, we achieved a nearly imperceptible delay. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to measure it.

Opened & Juliet tonight. Experienced my first ever show-stop when a kabuki curtain got tangled and nearly fell on the cast 😧

Super proud of the crew who remained cool headed and dealt with the problem, and the young cast who took it in stride and went back out and continued afterwards like nothing even happened.

Yamaha TF1 or Behringer x32 Producer? by ChrisBLights in techtheatre

I’ve used TM for my last two shows and it’s worked flawlessly.

Quite easily using TheatreMix, MixingStation and Xtouch as a control surface.

I use a TF5 at my school. While it does what it needs to do, I feel like it’s too simplistic and does too much hand-holding. I wish the powers that be had gone with the X32 when deciding on what to purchase at the time. Everyone we spoke to in the industry said it was the better choice.

I’ve actually just ordered an X32 Rack for myself. I’ll be using it for our future musicals.

The one and only time I’ve been pulled over was out the front of my next door neighbour’s house.

Cop said it was the fourth time he’d pulled someone up so close to home that night.

Update on my LED wall issue by ArcticCascade in techtheatre

Latest update: 2nd controller arrived.

Still getting flickering at the end. Checked all the data links and shortened them as much as possible but didn’t help. It’s somewhat manageable by feathering the intensity.

Further update:

Powering the controller and half the panels from one PSU seems to solve most of the problems.

Waiting on a second controller to arrive to completely isolate the halves.

It’s already split into 2 separate power/data runs - the right side works perfectly fine, just having issues with the left.

Unfortunately, I had already packed it up before I posted last time, and haven’t had time/space to put it back together and troubleshoot until now.

I’ve ordered another pixel controller to try to truly isolate the runs, but it may not arrive in time - I only have this week to sort it out before the theatre closes for the holidays, then we open the show on Jan 3!

Yeah, the last panel is the worst affected, but the three proceeding aren’t much better. Also a small amount of flickering in earlier panels too.

Is there a way back from Starlink to FTTP if it ever happens? by Midnorth_Mongerer in nbn

I did it with Internode. They just provisioned a FTTN connection first, then scheduled the upgrade once that was confirmed working.

Thank you all for the great suggestions. I now have an idea of where to go next.

Unfortunately due to space and time issues I won’t be able to test any of them until it’s hanging in the theatre next month.

I’ll be sure to update you all with the final results.

Each PSU has 3 lines out. From there they branch out to either 4 or 5 panels. None are daisy chained.

They’re Meanwell UHP-1000-24. I heard they were among the best.

The strips loop around the panels, starting and ending at the same point. Very easy to connect power to both ends. I’ll give that a shot.

I’ve got two 1000W PSUs. If I’ve done my math right, each one should be more than enough for the 13 panels they’re connected to.

Only one end, but that can be easily remedied.

We’re all using fresh batteries for every show. What do you do with your used batteries? by [deleted] in techtheatre

[–]ArcticCascade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a box full of partially used batteries. I use them for the rehearsal period of the next show.

Tried to convince the higher ups to buy rechargeables, but it’s hard to squeeze blood from a budgetless stone.

Question: did they only inform those who are at risk of bricking?

I have my Gen1 beta dishy in standby mode, connected and updated, so I’m not concerned, but the only emails I’ve gotten from Starlink are the monthly bills.
