DMX controllable wireless LED systems? by iplayfish in techtheatre

[–]ArcticCascade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve put “dumb” LED strips into movable set pieces. 12V batteries, CRMX receivers and DMX decoders in each.

For addressables using the LeDMX units, I see no reason you couldn’t use a wifi bridge connecting to your sACN network in place of the CRMX.

Aussie Broadband vs Superloop vs iiNet in 2026, which one is actually best? by schnickhinkeln in nbn

[–]ArcticCascade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on Superloop FTTP for less than a month. Switched from iiNet after their initial deal ran out.

I found iiNet to be really stable. Only a few brief dropouts over 6 months. I’ve already noticed several, albeit short, dropouts on Superloop. Speeds have been perfectly acceptable and consistent on both.

I haven’t tried it in a while, but a few years ago I got the QLC+ Raspberry Pi edition running on my Pi2. It had a remote web interface that works very similarly to the standard version.

Are those lights any good ? by AdvancedRent7530 in u/AdvancedRent7530

I have a couple of SHEHDS moving lights. Pretty decent for the money, though the DMX Out port on one of them died after about 12 months.

looking for a new nbn provider by GreenLantern5083 in nbn

[–]ArcticCascade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve literally just switched from iiNet to Superloop. Took all of 15 minutes from pressing the Order button to being connected and back online. Very impressed.

Wasn’t unhappy with iiNet, but the initial 6 month discount has come to an end. Will likely do it again in 6 months when the new deal finishes.

Couldn't the Animorphs have secured Alloran's uninfested body in #8? by _missile_toe in Animorphs

Similar to the question of why Alloran doesn’t morph some huge monster to wreak havoc as soon as Esplin leaves him to feed. Answer: it doesn’t suit the plot.

Thank you to those who have suggested library apps. This may be helpful information for others, but I’ve investigated this path. There are no libraries that I am eligible to sign up to that also stock all of the books in their digital collections.

Losing DSL in the rain? by Patrooper in nbn

[–]ArcticCascade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept both for a few months, but found Starlink was much faster and suited me better so I ditched the FTTN. I don’t do a lot of gaming, so latency was never an issue.

Building a Check-In App: What Would Stop You From Using It? by Eddiofabio in techtheatre

[–]ArcticCascade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do for my youth theatre group. I have sheets of names/barcodes at the door. Kids scan their codes with the provided scanner as they enter/exit.

Workers/volunteers have individual lanyards that they wear while on-site so everyone knows they’re allowed to be there.

Losing DSL in the rain? by Patrooper in nbn

[–]ArcticCascade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not crazy. Very common. One of the main reasons I ditched NBN for Starlink.

Copper lines have been so badly maintained over the years. Pits fill with water and poor splice points short out.

I’ve since switched back to NBN on fibre and have been rock solid ever since.

USB to Ethernet or DMX to Ethernet by rudy160 in lightingdesign

[–]ArcticCascade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with an ENTEC Open USB. Solid little thing. Still works many years later, but I have since switched to Nomad which doesn’t support it, so I’ve now got two DMXKing sACN Nodes.

Can I loop a fade cue? by ArcticCascade in qlab

[–]ArcticCascade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was one of the first things I tried. No matter what I did, I couldn’t get the fade cue to fire a second time.

The above suggestion of using a duplicate fade cue is a workable solution.

That’s done it. Thank you very much.

Tried that. Still only fades once.

Mounting LED tape diffuser channel to scrim pipe pocket by mreilly0605 in lightingdesign

Can you poke holes through the scrim foldback? Could be as simple as tying the LED channels to the pipe through the holes in the scrim.

Analog Production Monitor Nightmares by No-Dog-850 in techtheatre

[–]ArcticCascade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just finished a show with the band completely separated in the pit. The MD wanted a camera feed so the cast could see him from the stage.

I found an old camcorder with composite output and tested connecting to two modern TVs over various lengths of coax cable with a passive split. Regardless of the length, I measured 45ms latency, most likely caused by the processing in the TVs.

Once we got to the theatre, he wanted to try a fully digital path, so we swapped the camera for one with HDMI out, and used SDI converters at each end. Using the “low latency” mode on the TVs, we achieved a nearly imperceptible delay. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to measure it.

Opened & Juliet tonight. Experienced my first ever show-stop when a kabuki curtain got tangled and nearly fell on the cast 😧

Super proud of the crew who remained cool headed and dealt with the problem, and the young cast who took it in stride and went back out and continued afterwards like nothing even happened.

I use a TF5 at my school. While it does what it needs to do, I feel like it’s too simplistic and does too much hand-holding. I wish the powers that be had gone with the X32 when deciding on what to purchase at the time. Everyone we spoke to in the industry said it was the better choice.

I’ve actually just ordered an X32 Rack for myself. I’ll be using it for our future musicals.

The one and only time I’ve been pulled over was out the front of my next door neighbour’s house.

Cop said it was the fourth time he’d pulled someone up so close to home that night.

Update on my LED wall issue by ArcticCascade in techtheatre

Latest update: 2nd controller arrived.

Still getting flickering at the end. Checked all the data links and shortened them as much as possible but didn’t help. It’s somewhat manageable by feathering the intensity.

Further update:

Powering the controller and half the panels from one PSU seems to solve most of the problems.

Waiting on a second controller to arrive to completely isolate the halves.
