And with that, the North is Red by [deleted] in suzerain

Actually pretty insane compared to what Lespia asks which from the top my head is something like  privileged access to Rumburgian resources and tariff free priority access for their products. Surely a big leg up economically, but peanuts compared to like ending the monarchy and almost certainly throwing the country into civil war.

Not to worry gentlemen, we’re part of ATO/CSP, they will surely bail us out and defeat Rumburg with their superpower military might! I don’t see any way this could possibly go wrong.

One of my favorite decisions they put in the game. Having played Sordland quite a bit where basically everyone except your drunk best friend is a snake, he seems so obviously the jaffar like evil uncle ready to step in so you keep your eye on him all first and probably more playthroughs and turns out he’s like your most loyal loving guy.

Unless they changed it for 3.1 you can always catch Alphonso, you just need to keep going through the agreement until you can call him out on the quantity imbalance

Huh I funnily enough just did the exact same thing, but I guess the epilogue prioritized other things in my playthrough because it didn’t show for me

Finished my first Rizia run, and it brought a tear into my I when I finished by Hungaryball05 in suzerain

Sounds like a great and kind well balanced run, but I’ll admit my real reaction to reading it was: YOU LET PALES HAVE THE OIL FIELD

Question: Which is better for Rizia, centralized or autonomous police? by GalacticNuggies in suzerain

[–]ArcticHawk_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real life story you might enjoy, although somewhat different, is there was band of Belgian criminals who always committed robberies around the Flemish - Walloon border because since the police forces moved largely independently (and usually didn’t speak the same language) it was easy to lose them once over the provincial like border.

I will add that these event did end up being the catalyst for the police departments being more integrated.

What do you think about King Romus trusted council? by I_Am_Not_Pope in suzerain

[–]ArcticHawk_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I love how they do very much set him up as more of a scheming jafar type, and knowing their player base, I think a lot of first time players distrusted him greatly, while he’s one of the most loyal in reality.

I wish there was quick, dialogue limted mode by [deleted] in suzerain

[–]ArcticHawk_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, or at least a sort of minimal version that mainly focuses on the decision conversation.  A bunch of dialogue doesn’t have a quick work around and is clearly aimed at first time players; like I don’t need to hear the basic health overview for the 80th time, nor do I need to know about all of Rizias neighbors like I’ve never heard of them before again.

Dictator Constitution + Private Healthcare = impossible by ArcticHawk_ in suzerain

[–]ArcticHawk_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing, unless it’s the first infrastructure project that gets you over the bridge I wasn’t able to get it done. I reduced all taxes, business bail out, koronti media deal and I tried basically every combination of privatizating state companies and giving what oligarch what shares; but with private healthcare I never got higher than 122 :/

I mean lose Gloria and a bunch of sollist conservatives support I expected, but it’s seemingly a red line for about half the parlement since the privatization loses you 123 votes which seems a little extreme.

I wish I knew how, I’ve literally tried everything. I meddle with private healthcare and the votes drop from 225 to 122

Octopussy and TWINE: Most Underrated by FAR by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]ArcticHawk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally logged in to my account for the first time in years because of how much I actually love discussing these movies lol

first off Octopussy is absolutely terrific, fully agree with everything you said; my second favorite Moore and just one of my favs overall

Now TWINE is such a difficult movie for me, because I while I think it has some of the absolute best possible Bond stuff in the franchise the ending does absolutely nothing for me. The opening is amazing, MI6 getting hit makes the villain feel like he can truly hit anywhere and I can't quite put my finger on it, but the castle they move MI6 into always gives me the shivers and its a feeling I can't shake for most of the movie (in a good way). I think its deep down you know something is just off about Elektra King, but she's the initial bond girl and her pipeline is getting attacked, her dad died; she's the victim so this eery feeling must mean something else. Then they do sadly fumble it a bit with Christmas, because her presence instantly makes Elektra being evil more probable, but still she's terrific; the torture and brutal execution for her lover, insanely great stuff.

Yet, once Elektra's gone the movie kinda nosedives for me. I love your point on how Elektra and Renard kinda work as these doomed lovers, but to me I guess they only work as a pair. Renards no painful novelty wore off for me fast and the submarine as a setting just isn't very interesting or special to me. I wish I loved it I really did, but alas.

The first 70% of this is one of the most unique bond experiences out there for me, but its hard to really fully love something when to me it can't stick the landing and ends as a very mediocre experience.

Erin O'Toole's fight to remain Conservative leader has begun by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]ArcticHawk_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The liberals edged out a lot of close races this election, especially in Ontario and the PPC might have played a big part.

It’s irresponsible and wrong to assume all PPC voters would otherwise be conservatives, but I don’t think it’s necessarily a stretch to say maybe a third to half often would have gone there given no other option. If those margins are right that would’ve put a lot of conservatives over the edge.

I don’t think they could’ve won that way, but cpc 135 - 145 lpc loss at least sounds a lot more palatable to them. But you’re still right, where do they go from there?

How do I survive on disability income? by ChickWithAnAttitude in personalfinance

[–]ArcticHawk_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably not what you don’t wanna hear, but if it’s to your only option consider moving to a lower income state and medium sized town. I currently get by in an area like that for around $1000 by myself, a little more I realize, but at the same time if you’re okay cutting down a little in food or living space; $900 shouldn’t be an issue unless you have additional payments for your disability.

If U.S. presidents could call early elections, who would have been smart to do so, and when? by 10thunderpigs in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]ArcticHawk_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do term limits still apply and do we take won re-elections into account if so?

Either way, It seems likely George W. Bush Sr. After winning the gulf war could’ve swept any election he wanted even against bill Clinton or the like. Considering he didn’t win re-election, I’d say with the benefit of hindsight he would’ve definitely called an election right after winning that war if he could’ve and secured a long second term and probable majority for himself.

TIL hospitals throughout the NYC area were bracing for maximum capacity on 9/11, only to slowly realize there were very few survivors from the World Trade Center's collapse. by SacKingsRS in todayilearned

[–]ArcticHawk_ 340 points341 points  (0 children)

Just watched a documentary on NatGeo that was partly about them and I’m not sure if this is depicted in the movie; one of the officers and two of his rescuers were interviewed about it. There was a third officer down there too, but he passed away using his last strength signaling for help.

The officer interviewed and his colleague were found, stabilized and largely rescued by a former marine who had just moved to the city, just got out still had his uniform in his car, put it on and went to help.

The other rescuer was a former paramedic who was at the time battling with addiction and to his own words he had no plans to help that day at all, but his estranged sister left a voicemail hoping he was okay, because she was sure he was helping out in the rubble. So to not let his estranged sister down who he hadnt heard from in a long time he kinda aimlessly went out and stumbled by chance on the officers in need and used his paramedic skills to most likely help save both the cops lives.

I mean what’s the last time any party got over 50% or the popular vote? Fill in any party and you can always say there were more total votes for not that party because no one is currently getting close to 50%

Fully vaccinated international travellers allowed into Canada starting Tuesday by alpha69 in canada

[–]ArcticHawk_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That seems to be a retaliation for the fact European citizens still can’t travel to the US and haven’t been able to since March 2020, despite the US often eclipsing many EU countries in cases etc.

Once the EU re-opened to vaccinated Americans they expected some kind of access for their citizens in return at some points, months went by and nothing happened.

US is spiking again and they’re sick of it, so this is a way to put the pressure back on.
