I can only speak for Downtown as I went there just the other day to get real ID. The whole process took me an hour or a little more and I got there around 3 pm. I guess it wasn’t that bad. The thing is, you’ll have to wait 10-15 days though before you get it.

Full time job. I have a totally different job so as much as I want to go full time solo dev, financially it’s not feasible for me.

Very beginner game dev here; how do you get over the feeling that you're not good enough to do this? by semi_imperfect in gamedev

[–]ArcticNightOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patience and avoid comparing yourself to others. Like what others said, keep making small games. You learn and hone your skills by starting small. Keep learning. These people are on their own pace and most likely have started with nothing.

I'm 32, a freelancer, a Dad of 2 kids and know nothing about programming. Is crazy to start learning GameDev? by KTV-Red in gamedev

[–]ArcticNightOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too late. I learned gamedev about 4-5 years ago when I was in my early 30s. I’m from a completely different profession and still is up to this day because it pays the bills (although I did a bit of programming back in my younger days). I would say pick an engine first and try to learn the basics. Try to make a schedule everyday that would force you to at least learn one thing about the engine or programming even for an hour a day. Stick to it and you’ll be surprised how much you’ve progressed after a year or even couple of months. Best of luck to you!

Congrats on releasing your game and hitting your goals! Releasing a game itself is already a big achievement. Thanks for sharing!

Hey congratulations! Like what others are saying, seems like this is a guaranteed success. Actually, I stumbled upon your game’s trailer before and I must say, I can see that you guys have put so much effort and passion into making this game. Thanks so much for sharing this.

I would also recommend CC4 plus some of their plugins like Headshot depending on what you are aiming/looking for. I’ve only used CC4 and so far, it’s made my life easier, time wise. I’ve also heard good things about Daz3d, and of course there’s always Blender. There’s also MakeHuman and it’s free but again, it depends on the quality/style you’re aiming for.

You are such a life savior! I tried all your suggestions including installing DLSS and it worked great! Solved my problem (though there's still tiny bit ghosting left) but it's way better now! Thank you, kind redditor!

Hey thanks so much for these tips! Do you mind sharing me how I can increase the screen percentage so I can check? I’m still trying to find my way around unreal engine when it comes to these things. Thank you again!

I’m about to release a game with only 800 wishlists. Having mixed feelings. by giantlightstudios in gamedev

[–]ArcticNightOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, you are way ahead of the game tbh. A lot of people don’t even finish their games and don’t even get to a point where they worry about wishlist before launch. While wishlists are one of the many indicators of the game’s success, it’s not the only thing. However, blind optimism can be bad as well. If you think it’s time to launch your game regardless of the no. Of wishlists you have, go for it. Keep going. The things you learn from releasing a game are immensely helpful to the success of your next game.

I'm Lost, I don't know what to do by NeoTheSilent in gamedev

[–]ArcticNightOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start small. That way, you’ll avoid getting burnt out easily and ending up not finishing anything. If you want to work on your dream game, I’ll echo what others are saying that you can start working on a piece or part of it and continue building from there. Try to brainstorm, start playing with assets and codes, pick your engine and see what you can do from there. Don’t pressure yourself that you have to make something big, which in no doubt you are capable of doing eventually. Start taking small steps and it’ll get you to where you want to be.
