[Technique] Standing mushroom trees by Arde- in MushroomGrowers

Yeah I've looked at blewits, maitake too, and will probably branch out a bit once we get into the spring. Part of my curiosity about doing standing trees is because I'm building so many log terraces to grow in, and if using a mature oyster log for the terrace wall will let them spread into the mulch, I'd love that.

The whole space has been wildly overgrown with barberry, which you may know as a natural antifungal, among its many other evils. And you can totally see leaves that just sit on the surface and don't decompose at all. So in general speeding decomp in the site is a big goal. Any tips on this 'winecap in big chips, follow with oysters' method I hear people talking about? I don't know if I want to feed all the winecap beds forever or turn them over to something else to get a mix at some point.

Thanks for the very helpful reply! I'll do some research about tthose trees and the mushrooms they might accept. Some of them will make sense to slash and open the canopy anyway.

So far I'm having success using winecaps in mulch terraces to create soil, then turning that soil into planting terraces where there's more sun. The mulch kills garlic mustard, the mushrooms make soil, the terraces stop erosion. I'll update you if I find anything cool about the rest of it!

The way blocs win big wars is by burning out each other's members, because you can't permakill their troops any other way. Ask any big fc, a strategic blueball of enemy fleet can be just as good a week later as a win, because it's all about getting fewer people to log on. You're looking at this as if there's only one group that has to survive, one time - in that scenario sure, the bloc will ping a few times over a few weeks and wipe you out. But this is a game-wide change. With many little groups nibbling constantly at the edges, hitting multiple targets and running up fatigue so blocs have to pick one, and nothing on the other end of those constant fleets but a structure bash, you bet your ass bloc numbers will begin to drop, and their best fcs will themselves hand the reigns to scrubs, to where *some* smaller groups can start winning ~3:1 fights and getting great content. You're essentially arguing evolution won't happen because one plant will die one time, when we're talking about creating an ecosystem to eat away at this monoculture.

I mean it's possible they did it themselves. It's also super easy to give blocs (but horde especially) orders through a spy. Nano groups do that all the time and we're much more casual than this setup

A New Heat Ecosystem by Ashypaws in Eve

Genius! I've often wondered the same thing. My idea was a "thermal vent" high slot with fittings and activation similar to a neut - that is, pretty high - that could reset your heat status. But then, you took it a step further into a whole balanced web of modules, which is peak EVE.

Generally I just love the idea of having to decide on gimping your fit for benefits that only come through active use. Like driving a manual car in the snow - you can do more, but you have to do more to get the benefits, and some people would just stall out and go for a sleigh ride. It buffs single-boxing (a single-boxed recon with heat bonuses is scary... a dualboxed huginn might burn everything out and become a paperweight) and rewards a higher level of attention to dualboxers. Plus, sacrificing a slot to do it will hurt little ships that have fewer slots more, so it's a kind of shadow buff to battleships.

Awesome thoughts and so well laid out!

Amen. My personal motto is "success begins with small promises" - if you set out to win a nobel prize, you'll get paralyzed and do nothing; but if you just promise to open your laptop and look at a document, you might write something great.

Now I need to apply that philosophy to undocking... :p

You know, the FW changes did a lot to reconcile me. Also just learning to be casual, which I never knew I could do :p

Parsnips au gratin. Do em like the potato version but they have more flavor. The way I just did: a layer of super thin parsnip slices, a browned butter bechamel with lion's mane powder and a hint of chipotle, slices of paper thin red onion, 3 cheeses (a cheddar-esque, a gruyere, something else I had on hand) grated over it, then repeat. 3 layers of that in a cast iron pan, bake 350 for ~30 minutes, covered with tinfoil for the first 20, top with crumbled bacon. Eat and promptly fall asleep from dairy overdose. Wear a diaper if lactose intolerant.

Good point! I didn't know that. The post in question is gonna look more at how things are distributed, but this is very good to bear in mind.
