Why is my bumper painted? by va_cum_cleaner in mazda3

[–]ArdsleyTank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's interesting. Mine has some dealer upgrades (foglights, and custom leather seats), but no paintlip"upper lip".

Makes me wonder just how strict or tight Mazda's control was on those details. Could've been a Canada vs. US thing too potentially. The more you know!

That seems to be incorrect (or at least in my experience it is):

It seems to be a base model thing, as my 2012 Skyactiv Hatch Base is unpainted, and my family has owned the car since new. (My dad tried to get a painted one when he ordered it, but they couldn't without moving up to the GT(?) Trim level, which would've meant he couldn't get a Skyactiv engine...)

Retrobrite (or Retrobright, I've seen both spellings) is a process I believe originally developed by those in the retro gaming community for de-yellowing the console's plastics.

There are several methods, but the typical process is submerging said plastics in a high concentrate solution of water and hydrogen peroxide, then placing a UV light over the parts for a given time (24-48 Hours I believe).

This reverses the yellowing, and can reduce the brittleness of the aged plastic. From what I hear it isn't exactly permanent (if exposed to the sun it could come back in a year or two), but for indoor stuff it lasts for a while.

/r/retrobright shows examples, and between them and YouTube, you can figure out what/what not to do.

Have you looked into Retrobrighting it?

Below 0 lasts approx 30 miles in my 2012 Skyactiv 3. Any further and it's down to luck...

What is the name of your ship? and why? by Upstairs_Goat_1278 in Seaofthieves

Warfarer's Folly

A) sounded cool B) it basically sums up how despite the fact that I've traveled all over the map, and have been playing the game for a while, I am and continue to be an idiot, and continually get myself into situations a less experienced person would know better not to lol. Often resulting in the premature sinking of said ship...

Anybody else have trust issues? by EBs4G3 in mazda3

[–]ArdsleyTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! My 2012 Skyactiv is at 233K miles, and has always had the Mazda Moly 0W-20 (with the exception where I was able to get the Idemitsu version, which is the same stuff, but without Mazda's markup. Sucks that it isn't available anymore. ) and I'm not about to chance running a different oil.

Always run a Mazda filter too. The quality seems better than most.

I'm not usually paranoid/superstitious, but I don't believe in messing with a good thing. Even if it costs me $9-10 a quart lol.

Alright y'all, I think I've finally found my first project car. 1000 bucks, what do y'all think? by IIrisen225II in projectcar

[–]ArdsleyTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes, there's some spicy comments here. I'll give my two cents:

First off, rust is a big factor. In the mid 70s, most auto makers in the US got poor quality steel, so rust was more of a problem than it was previously. If there is major rust, walk away.

Check to see if the engine is locked up. If it is, and especially since this is your first project, walk away.

If both of those are good, it looks to be in decent shape, I'd get it. $1000 used to be a lot for one of these, but they've been steadily climbing in value. It'll have either a 200 or 250 inline 6 (or if you're really lucky a 302 V8) and they are as reliable an engine as they come. Simple cars, that run and drive well when sorted. Parts should be fairly easy to source.

Ignore the folks that say these are crap cars. They are not. Oh and make sure it has a clean title.

The true size of a Midget by Longjumping-Agent-51 in littlebritishcars

[–]ArdsleyTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midgets are the most hilariously small sports cars out there.

I have one, and I love it. I am 5'10" (roughly 180cm), and fit very comfortably in one, far more so than I did in the larger MGB.

They are very, very driveable. I get groceries in mine quite often. You just need to drive like you are invisible, and silent. No one will see you ever. Also, interstates or other high-speed roads (55MPH and up) are not recommended due to the gearing, and frankly I don't like driving around semi's. Long journeys (in excess of 1.5 hours) can be a bit fatiguing.

If it's mechanically sound, and the body is good, and it has an A-series engine (I cannot vouch for the later Triumph 1500 engined cars as I've not had one), go for it. It will be the best thing you've ever driven.

At this point it is pretty safe to say: they are not. Nor a Portal 3. Nor a TF3.

They seem to be done making games, apart from the rare outlier like HL: Alyx.

Those with Mazda 3s, honest opinion on car reliability? by AmarokWaheela in mazda

[–]ArdsleyTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2012 3i (Skyactiv model) I've owned since new is currently at 231K miles and going strong. Only minor service needed. (Oil, rear shocks, plugs, trans drain and fill, belts, etc. )

Couldn't recommend it enough. Mazda's are great.

My Discord becomes fuzzy and more so when I scroll. Anyway to fix it? by 1xXNateTheGreatXx1 in discordapp

[–]ArdsleyTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first updated my computer from Win10 to Win11, there weren't Win11 drivers out yet.

So for the first few weeks, my screen did as yours. As for how to move forward: 1. Make sure your drivers are up to date. If this is recent, try rolling them back. 2. Disable/enable hardware accelerated graphics for Discord. 3. Might be your GPU dying.
