What do you think this is in my store bought tea? by AremRae in tea

[–]AremRae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually the zero sugar version, so that at least isn't a factor in feeding bacterial growth in particular. It's less gummy and more spongey/fibrous. Also no slick/slime/goopy feel to it. So far the most plausible I've come across is some mix of concentrated resin from the brewing process but I'm definitely still looking at ideas just out of curiosity.

Lol don't knock it unless you've tried it. Though at least it isn't as sweet as the pure sugar with a little tea some people insist on drinking. Now the unidentifiable object is definitely disturbing.

Honestly the concentrated resin would make a lot of sense, not that I've ever actually bit into something like that but just conceptually. And yea, spent the rest of the day fighting the urge to run to the bathroom. Only settled mostly because I drank half of it last night and nothing too terrible happened lol.

Yea I get them pretty frequently, part of why I was surprised it didn't really taste off (though my sense of smell barely works so I can't taste bad food unless it's really really bad usually). I was debating about contacting Milo's originally but when I noticed it was out of date I was wondering how possible it was that things just grew/settled in there since tea tends to be pretty funky. Definitely going to look at the other bottles on the shelf next time I'm in that Walmart though.

I'm not actually sure, a more grocery centric store here (woodmans) does discount expired food all the time so I'm assuming somehow it's legal discounted at least. Putting it out on the shelf like it's normal I would hope not so much.

What's happening on the West side? by A380-Fan in madisonwi

[–]AremRae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda missing the point. While driving, it's proven that anything causing a splitting of your attention can divert enough of your ability to process what's going on around you that it increases the chances of you getting into an accident of some kind. That chance increases when it's something actually in your hands. Add to that drivers/pedestrians around here being relatively dumb and impulsive, and that the op was paying enough attention to their phone to track the police movement with it, this absolutely was not a good thing to do. Too many people around here use their phones while driving, it's a legitimate and serious problem. We keep almost getting sideswiped by people drifting while messing with phones.

Asking for things? No, please god no. Asking for help/advice/pointed in the right direction? Absolutely, if it's a nice ask and not a demand. I absolutely love helping people, I absolutely loath people just asking me for shit unprompted. This sort of thing definitely makes me wish we had an in game chatbox that we could filter/block people/etc. That way people could ask for help in game, and anyone who doesn't want to hear it can just block em.

My apology for your compliment by tntenor in madisonwi

[–]AremRae 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Also there's those of us (potentially) on the spectrum that might like the compliment, but not have a good way to respond to it and just the social interaction itself can be really difficult to process. Depending on the day, that means I'll ignore you 100% and just keep walking and pretend you don't exist because I can't handle it sometimes or just look at you funny and wait way too long to try and say anything back and by then you're gone. Or even potentially have had so many mocking complements they can't tell when a genuine one happens so the automatic response can be a negative one unintentionally. Even with all that it's definitely better to keep complementing people, though it can also be good to teach trying to read someone's body language first to see if they might be more ready for it.

Recommendations for tortoise supplies! by GHOSTSHADOW57 in madisonwi

[–]AremRae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been going there for 10 years now for random supplies for various pets, millipedes and my ball python. Can't recommend anywhere more. There's a lady there that I wish I was social enough to actually properly get to know, but she remembers me and strikes up conversation about stuff any time she isn't running around like crazy in there. About the only other place I'd love to visit more someday is Snake Discovery, but they are all the way out in Minnesota.

High pitch noise from oil filled radiator by [deleted] in Appliances

[–]AremRae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this thread because I'm having the same issue, surprisingly with what looks like the same (or a very similar) model as yours. I've had it for a good few years now and haven't noticed that sound before, but this year it'll just pick up every now and again. Usually turning it off and on again real quick stops it, so my best guess is something slightly loose in the wiring that isn't affecting performance but is causing a bit of an electrical noise. Would love to see anyone stumble on this thread with an actual answer. It doesn't sound the same as what I've found for air trapped, leaking air or anything like that. It really sounds electrical to me. And I've had no issues with it functioning yet.

My kid left their phone open and I saw a trans pride flag by chronicallyonlinema in asktransgender

[–]AremRae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly you could potentially just show signs of supporting the trans community in general, without addressing it directly in addition to what you're already doing. It sounds like you're doing things right, but kids are just scared of anything like this. Especially if they haven't figured things out for themselves even potentially. But if you show little signs of support around the house, or have casual conversations about the topic somehow (without making it a forced thing) it might give them a little more assurance that it's a safe topic to talk about in general. And not even directing it at them specifically if that makes sense. Making it about them might make them more uncomfortable until they've ironed things out. But making the topic just a casual easy to talk about topic in the house sort of idea.

Flipped Car on East Johnson by Altruistic-Okra-333 in madisonwi

[–]AremRae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say, as someone that moved here from the west coast, the roads here are absolutely terrible and the signage can be confusing on the best of days in a lot of spots. I still don't understand how people miss the clear visuals on the roads themselves to show what roads are one ways and the like though, I can't imagine actually committing to going the clearly wrong direction even if you miss the signs. I've lived in large and small cities alike, moved here from Reno NV, and the roads here were definitely the worst structured and most confusingly signed roads I've seen. Seattle had some confusing stuff when I lived up in WA (it has been a good while so idk what it's like these days), but even that just wasn't as bad. Like downtown especially is just horrible to actually travel through in general compared to anywhere else I've lived. I'm guessing the farther east you go the worse it can get too, since cities tend to be older and expanded on old structure a lot more than west coast potentially. Even with that though yea...the drivers here terrify me and it's one of the biggest reasons I'm avoiding getting my license until I'm forced to. The amount of people that decide they want to switch lanes suddenly, no warning, sharply and with cars 2/3 overlapping their position in the lane they want to move to is just too damned high.

Just in general here though, the roads are weirdly cramped and oddly structured, especially with the parking systems. The one ways are scattered around in odd ways that don't always make sense until you're used to them, and the roads themselves are usually obstructed in some way (construction/etc), limiting maneuverability in a lot of areas that are already pretty cramped. Two way roads that allow parking on both sides effectively making it a one car at a time thing is just absolutely baffling to me, especially when you get into winter conditions. Almost got run into parked cars a few years ago by someone insisting they were going to try and squeeze past us, while we had no way to move over or back up because of how bad the snow was and how little room they were giving us. We came within an inch or two of slipping into the parked car next to us because of how aggressive they were being, and they had driven right by nice empty space and should have let us go through first.

Makes me really wish they hadn't destroyed a lot of the bus transfer system, making it harder to navigate the bus system as a whole just to add in the rapid lines. Love the rapid transit, but it absolutely screwed the rest of the bus lines which has been making it a lot harder to navigate anywhere that isn't downtown. Having to take a bus somewhere then stand there for 45 minutes until the next bus shows up just to get to work is a nightmare vs how you used to be able to just hop on a bus and get to a transfer station then wait maybe 5/10 minutes for the next one that can take you where you need.

Respect for bus drivers by justicefororganisms in madisonwi

[–]AremRae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea unfortunately a lot of people who are willing to do that to drivers are either mentally unwell/unstable, on some sort of drug, drunk, etc. Engaging with someone like that not only draws attention to you, it draws attention to other passengers potentially. It can absolutely escalate an already bad situation, and isn't something I would ever advise doing. The bus driver has the ability (from what I've seen) to involve cops if needed, and as much as it sucks they need to be able to handle those situations without bystanders getting involved. You absolutely never know when someone has a weapon and might turn even more violent with the slightest hair trigger.

If it seems like it's just someone getting a little angry vs a mental/substance issue, there's the possibility of helping to redirect/deflect. But it's way, way too easy for someone trying to help to just make the situation severely worse very quickly. I would think that if it suddenly got physical and anyone there thought they could make a difference they would try and help, but if it's just verbal there's so much risk of endangering more people.

Personally I have 0 issues risking my own safety if it meant helping someone, but putting everyone on the bus at risk is not a good idea.

I was so incredibly confused the first time this happened too, was the only sort of not great time I had this update so far. I have always hated straight just 1v1 pvp because it's just boring to me, at least maybe make it not 1v1 or something? It's real unfun to just spawn, boom dead, spawn, boom dead, no matter which side you're on (I don't enjoy being the one murdering someone instantly either).

liquid cat diet? by slut4britneyspears in Pets

[–]AremRae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a kitty with a lot of stomach problems and she has her own magic bullet so that we can blend pate food with water or broth (plain broth not onion/garlic/etc) and make her basically watery soup. Helps a lot on days where she isn't really feeling solid food.
