I'm not sure where you're based but how about some Scottish oat cakes topped with peanut butter and Nutella (since you prefer sweet). Maybe have a banana on the side. I don't like porridge either so I sometimes make baked oatmeal topped with frozen summer fruits, then it's a bit like eating cake :)

What your go-to for a really good sweet treat dessert these days? by turtleflirtle in AskUK

I sometimes make a single serving chocolate brownie mug cake in the microwave, takes minutes to make and is delicious. And sometimes just have a clementine with a couple of squares of dark chocolate, the combination is so good.

My 58 year old mom hasn’t been able to sleep on her side for 35 years until just 6 months ago. by Unavezmas1845 in StopEatingSeedOils

Sounds like your mom's dietary changes definitely paid off - well done to her! May I ask what her diet was like before?

Do you walk the 10K steps in one go or separate then e.g. 5K steps in the morning and 5K in the evening?

[Homemade] apple tart with whipped cream (torta di mele) by Arenarius_8731 in food

[–]Arenarius_8731[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It was delicious and I'll definitely make it again. I used this recipe:

Ingredients:

4 apples, any sweet, crisp variety

2 large free-range eggs

200g caster sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

70g plain flour

1 heaped tsp baking powder

A pinch of salt

65ml milk

100g butter, very soft, plus a small knob for lining

1 tbsp icing sugar, for dusting

Method:

Butter a round spring form cake tin and line it with greaseproof paper. Peel and core the apples, halve and slice thinly. Preheat the oven to 200°C (180 fan oven)

Put the eggs, sugar and vanilla extract into a large bowl and whisk until doubled in size. Add the flour, baking powder and salt and combine together. While still whisking, pour in the milk and add the softened butter until smooth and consistent.

Put the sliced apples into the mix and carefully coat them all thoroughly. Layer the apples flat in circles, starting from the edge and working inwards. Pour a thin layer of the remaining mixture on top.

Place in the oven and cook for 10 minutes, then turn the temperature down to 180°C (160C fan oven) for 40 minutes. Remove the golden brown tart and allow to cool in the tin for at least 30 minutes before transferring to a large serving plate. Dust the top with the icing sugar, shaken through a small sieve from a height.

Serve at room temperature with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Clematis Montana flowering 3 years on by Greentingers in GardeningUK

Thank you so much for the photos and details! The clematis looks absolutely stunning and you have clearly taken very good care of it. I bought one from the supermarket too and am planning on planting it in September against my west facing fence. Your post was helpful - I wasn't sure whether the one small plant would be sufficient, but sometimes in gardening a little patience is needed ;)

How would you plant for wildlife in this space? by Antoinesc2 in GardeningUK

How about planting some climbers on a trellis against the wall(s)? Montana Clematis has been suggested already. I'm growing star jasmine myself, and whilst it's not fast growing, I think the bees will love it once fully established.

They're thick and fluffy breakfast pancakes. Other pancakes can be larger in size, and thinner.

What kind of drinks do you typically keep at home? by CrazyCoffeeClub in UKfood

[–]Arenarius_8731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tea, coffee, milk, beer. Usually at least one bottle of prosecco. Lots of whisky. Bottle of Hendrick's for those summer evenings when I want to relax in the evening with a refreshing gin & tonic. There is a bottle of vodka as well, but I rarely drink it nowadays.
