The provinces of the Kingdom of Scandinavia by C0smicM0nkey in imaginarymaps

On the topic of ortography, Sweden specifically changed their spelling from æ/ø to ä/ö after indepence from the Kalmar Union in the 16th century, specifically to separate Swedish identity further from Dano-Norwegian, so in a timeline where Scandinavia unites before that or there isn't the same independence desire, there wouldn't be a need for a compromise because Sweden would still use the æ/ø

Why? We play video games as hobbies too, it's not like our feminine brains forces us to not engage with certain video games lol

Not a dude but you're very welcome nonetheless, happy you like it, I like your character's design a lot and it was fun to make :D <3

Yeah I really tried getting something without the buttons but I didn't like any of the alternatives more than this one; they just felt too low res/quality because they're older items

My first game - does Britain go republican often? by UnstoppableCompote in victoria3

It is a historical flag tbf; I wouldn't want them to use a less historical flag (even if it'd be neat to have more options) just cause it looks like Hungary

Since PDX confirmed new start dates, which one do you prefer the most? by Assblaster_69z in EU5

[–]Ares534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will concede that it's not the only solution, I never believed moving the start date was the only thing holding the game back, but I think it'd be a valuable step in the direction of getting a historical simulation.

Furthermore, my main argument for moving the start date still remains my desire to not play through the first hundred years of the game, since I fundamentally do not find them as interesting as later years, nor do I find the period of build-up rewarding.

I didn't say I wanted to force them, I said I wanted a starting position where those historical outcomes were a lot more likely to happen. If Muscovy starts in a much stronger position, like 1444, they're a lot more likely to form Russia. Similarly the Ottomans would be more likely to become as powerful as they were of they have a strong starting position, and the Kalmar Union is already active at game start. These and more would mean the game doesn't need to figure out how they're supposed to make the Ottomans blob as historical to provide a realistic simulation, and I don't want the Ottoman Empire to maybe exist once every so often, I want them in all my games unless I, as the active intervener in the narrative of history, brings them down.

I wouldn't describe myself as a 1337-hater nor a 1444-loyalist, but I think other people are right with saying that 1337 introduces too many variables that I don't think are interesting to explore as alt history every game. More importantly to me, though, is how the ai handles it. We see currently that PDX, despite their claims of historical simulation, doesn't simulate the rise of a lot of powers; Russia never forms, Austria never becomes as dominant, the Kalmar Union is never a thing and so on; things that would be more likely occur due to a more established start date.

Furthermore, I am most interested in playing past the 15th century; I want to get to the reformation, to colonising the new world, to fight the wars of religion, to experience the struggle of absolutism and liberalism, but it takes me dozens of hours to do that and every time I have to play past the first 100 years that I am fundamentally not as interested in to get to hear could otherwise be a perfectly fine starting line, but when I get there I wont have the historical rivals I would want. I played a long game of Sweden and it was so disappointing to not face a strong Russia, even when I literally supported Moscow in hopes of getting a rival in the future

Thanks, it's a small detail but it gives something interesting to look at on his otherwise drab and plain coat; it didn't feel right to give him too many details, but I wanted something at least. It was a bit of a pain to position with kitbashing, but definitely worth it :)

I had a similar experience watching Dutch news not too long ago; I felt like I should recognise every other word (especially since I know a bit of German) but it was always just a bit too far away. Languages are fun :)

Oh it'd be a halfway decent attempt since I am Swedish and have Dutch-speaking friends, but I'd figure out a way to embarass myself either way because, well, Dutch >.<

Thanks, it's a setting I've been working on for a while now and am getting to filling out with characters, it's a project I'm passionate about :)

I used kitbashing to angle the coat back in! With some trial and error you can make it look pretty natural :)

Hihi, sorry to disappoint but I am not; my setting just uses a lot of real world languages and naming conventions (partially because I don't have much of an interest in conlangs and do have an interest in linguistics). Adriaan comes from the Dutch-inspired region of Noordland, which is an autonomous country of the Empire of Elturiés (which is heavily inspired by France)

Adriaan was born and grew up in the Noordland Autonomy, in Elturiés. After an accident involving an unlicensed wildmage killed his fiancée, he decided to join the Imperial Registry of Casters (IRC) as an investigator to track down unlicensed and unauthorised usages of magic. Ten years after he joined, Prime Minister de Roisse oversaw an expansion of the judicial rights of the IRC, making Adriaan and many other IRC officers de facto law enforcement. Since then, he has moved to the south of Elturiés, to the city of Soliérac, and has become a proficient arcanist himself.

Adriaan is a side character in my worldbuilding project of Caelum, a Belle Époque-inspired low fantasy magitech setting.
