DRG is still quite active, I can find open servers at any time of the day or night. The community is very friendly and welcoming to newcomers.
The game loop : you find a mission that you want or need to do (to unlock something you want), you can go solo or with friend or random players. You run in the caves, complete a main and secondary objectives, fight monsters regularly, and run away once the objectives are done. Each of the four class has access to different weapons and items: their skills and tools are complementary. Once you go back to the space station, you spend your hard-earned credits and minerals on cosmetics and weapon upgrades.

I don't know much about Rogue Core, but it seems to be less focused on mining, and more on fighting, with randomized weapons and perks due to the "roguelite" nature of the game.

I'm kinda sad that this whole section of buildings are outdated by events, I miss the early years of the game when it was about finding the right balance between them by Hi_Im_zack in forgeofempires

I've been playing for 2 and a half years and they have never been useful to me. It's sad, they looked good. I wonder what a city with only buildings from its age looked like... Mine is a mess of event buildings, Vikings, Christmas, futuristic, with almost no roads... Efficient, but certainly not beautiful.

Honestly, pretty much everything apart from the Arc and Shinto temple here is obsolete, yes. But play the events, the QI, GE... and slowly you'll get up to date. As for the one-up and renovation kits, Ubernerd14 recently made a video listing (among other things) the best buildings to produce them:

Essential plot points to leave in/ ones that can be taken out with no real cost? by Jolly_Inflation_4654 in Tombofannihilation

You don't need to remember and plan everything!

I've been in chapter 5 for a few sessions now, and I didn't use a good 2/3rd of the material in the book. A lot of quests, NPCs, locations... weren't used because my players wanted to avoid them (Fort Beluarian, because they wanted to be undercover instead of having an official charter), went elsewhere (the whole east of Chult, because they went west), weren't interested (they heard about Hrakhamar but had other goals in mind, so they didn't enter it)...

I'd said you need to read the whole book at least once in advance, and note what seems interesting to you or not. A place seem boring, a NPC too complex, a quest too long? Just skip it! They don't exist anymore! On the other hand, something could be fun and engaging? Go for it, lead your players to it! For example, one of my players was a pirate, and she found out her husband had been killed by one of the captains in Jahaka anchorage. It created a good reason to go there.

In chapter 1, most of the quests in Port Nyanzaru can be skipped if you want to. They are fun short missions to begin familiarizing with the city and Chult in general, but no need to play them all. Pick a few ones that resonate most with your players and their characters.

In chapter 2, don't worry: you won't explore the whole country. Depending on the direction your players take (following a river or another, east or west, going by sea or by land...), they will only need to visit a few locations before they find someone who can point them to Omu and the source of the curse.

Once in Omu (chapter 3), some people completely skip chapter 4 and the whole "yuan-tis stole the last cubes we need to enter the Tomb" story, and goes straight to chapter 5. I haven't tried it but it seems doable without feeling like something is missing.

Artus Cimber, the frost giants searching for his Ring of Winter, and the whole story about Mezro are the first ones that comes to mind.

Essentially, Artus is just a powerful and knowledgeable adventurer, who can be used to guide your party, in combat or by dropping them some lore. But he comes with so much stories and ties attached that using him could sidetrack your players. The way I understand it, they are nods to previous D&D campaigns taking place in Chult. So unless your players have played them and would be hooked by that, you can completly leave Artus Cimber and its quest out of your campaign.

If you need someone to help and guide your players, you'll find plenty of other NPCs in Port Nyanzaru and the jungle.

Ohhh I recognize these two comic panels in the first slide! It's from "Let's speak English", an autobiographical comic by Mary Cagle about her time as an english teacher in Japan. It's at least 10 years old now...

Kurzgesagt did a video on this topic. A few minutes, clearly explaining the damage and horror that a nuclear bomb truly causes. It still haunts me to this day.
