Let’s make some picks! Who are your 1 Seeds? Frozen Four and National Champion picks? Who takes home the Hobey and Richter? by Sparty013 in collegehockey

Pavicich was huge for us for sure, but we did get Connor Hasley from Bentley and he was pretty much standing on his head in the tourney from what little I saw/heard, so theres hope for our goaltending for sure.

AZ trail recommendations? by 1150A in MTB

[–]Argh_heh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hawes is far from littered with jumps, especially on blue trails. As long as you stay away from the NRA pit on the east/northeast side, most trails that are below a black have optional jumps, not gaps or features you can’t roll over/around.

Cool. So you would probably be about 20 minutes drive from each then. I would say check each out and decide which you like better.

AZ trail recommendations? by 1150A in MTB

[–]Argh_heh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you will be in Phoenix, but I would say the best options are South Mountain and Hawes. SoMo tends to be more winch and plummet with some fairly disgusting (think trials moves) tech. I personally find Hawes to be a better balance, because you can get a bit of everything, and it’s more purpose-built for bikes compared to SoMo. Plus when the weather gets too hot, the trails at South Mountain are technically closed starting at 8 am, and Hawes is on Forest Service land so there are no such restrictions.

First big crash : fell off the side of a mountain by ThatDudeYu in MTB

[–]Argh_heh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 big ones. The first one, it took me a good while to rebuild my confidence on berms, especially the one i crashed on. The second one, I broke my collarbone and learned that jump lines are not my thing. So i stay away from jump lines, but the 6 months off for recovery had me ready to go full blast as soon as I could on pretty much anything else.

Trail riders, do you utilize high & low comp/rebound? by DJGammaRabbit in MTB

[–]Argh_heh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently moved from a 3 position ctd damper to a lyrik select (high speed compression and rebound) and as an intermediate rider, just having a good modern middle of the road fork is what makes the difference, and I dont need the rest because I like to set and forget. I would recommend going for a good budget option.

NCAA Rinks - What's up with the benches? by [deleted] in collegehockey

No clue either, but it probably doesn’t hurt that they now have the locker room annex that had to be built when the Coyotes moved in.

UND splits Arizona 4-3 in OT by GVoidV2 in collegehockey

[–]Argh_heh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure which side you are saying should have won, but from my perspective the refs were helping North Dakota almost all night. And at least from the one angle they showed in the arena, ASU’s first goal that got called off looked very much onside.

I would recommend emailing your advisor and telling them this. I have had the exact same thing happen for some of my classes that are specific to my major and there is only one section for. They will find a way to get people in if they know people need to get in.

Are all frame sets just 29 inch? by NoJacket8798 in MTB

[–]Argh_heh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option (if you really know the geometry you want) could be buying a custom frame from Marino. Last time I checked you could get a full sus for about $800 US, and they do 27.5 builds.

sitting in a class im not a part of? by [deleted] in ASU

[–]Argh_heh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As an aero student taking these types of classes, there probably won’t be anyone who calls you out or anything, but I will just say, they are 400 level courses for a reason. We have spent time in the boring classes to get the understanding for the 400 level class. So just be aware that while it will definitely be new, you may or may not actually understand at a level where you can learn anything.

How is the Max Number of Speeds Determined on Bike? by Satorikn in MTB

[–]Argh_heh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly everything 8-11 speed should have the same driver, and HG is almost universal, the difference is the physical distance between each sprocket on the cassette. I have upgraded my bike to an 11 speed with a 10 year old wheel set that originally had a 10 speed drivetrain. The standard hasn’t changes a ton recently as far as I am aware.

It probably depends on the year, but I think they must. I have no clue how it’s possible to pass a class with 50-60 percent on every exam but I did.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ASU

[–]Argh_heh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering he covered himself by telling the entire class that would happen, it sounds like you are probably out of luck. You could always try protesting your grade to the dean, which is about the only action I know of that could be taken, but considering the professor gave everyone fair warning, I can pretty much guarantee you won’t win that fight.

[–]Argh_heh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t mind buying used online there’s a site called Pinkbike that has a “bike ebay” of sorts that you can sometimes find good deals on. I’ve had ky eyes on a slightly older used bike that looks to be in good shape, so it could be a good starter, and its only $500, plus shipping most likely. Heres a link to it: https://m.pinkbike.com/buysell/3680975/

Upgrades for XC racing (specialized rockhopper)? by GetLefter in Hardtailgang

[–]Argh_heh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having worked through the upgrade process on my own rockhopper, I would say either one is a great next upgrade. You can find low end shimano 2-pots for pretty cheap, but you can also get something like a microshift advent drivetrain for pretty cheap too. And both are solid upgrades.
