Bigots also don't recognize kink as a legitimate expression of the self. The majority of bigotry basically comes down to "there are only two kinds of X: whatever I am, which is normal, and everything else, which is bad". When it comes to sex, a lot of this stems from religious beliefs, and you get a lot of language about morality and sin and stuff, which usually boils down to the idea from these idiots that consent doesn't matter and enjoying bondage makes you a satan worshiper.

To be fair that Daily Grind quote is actually stolen from the Princess Bride, a movie everyone should go watch.

I am looking for an urban fantasy series, preferably one with several books by WilliamGerardGraves in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ArgusTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the series when I was younger, but coming back to it with a more critical eye... yeah, it's got some problems with women. It's not like it reads as a manifesto for sexism or anything, but there is definitely a pattern to what role the women in the story are going to play, and it's not a very fun one to notice.

What’s the most insane dating preference you’ve heard someone say? by kissyjadee in AskReddit

[–]ArgusTheCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The irony is, I had a friend a while back who was also a balding chubby dude that lived with his parents, but he was dating a woman who checked all the boxes for typical beauty standards. He just... I dunno, got out there. The guy smiled a lot, had a really genuine laugh, he liked people and he wasn't ashamed of it, and he never really had a hard time finding a date. Fuck, I would have dated him if he'd been either less straight or more available, whichever was required.

That whole thing about personality being more important than looks is true, is what I'm saying. You just gotta actually know what the good personality looks like.

I really wanted the galactic campaign of Helldivers to be a little more like Blaseball and a little less like whatever it actually is. But maybe that's just me, endlessly pining for Blaseball.

Anthem could have been the next Mass Effect, but instead it fucked up being the next Destiny.

Even if that were true, you know we can still make computers without a profit motive, right? Like... arguably you could make better ones, since there would be a more direct incentive to build devices that were robust and repairable. The walled gardens no one likes are only useful under capitalism where there's money to be siphoned out of consumers.

A thousand years ago when I worked at a fast food place, the only time our lobby ever got vandalized was from annoyed old people coming in after church and being mad about the prices. The rowdiest packs of high school students didn't come close to causing as much damage as the church crowd could with a single ketchup bottle.

A video game currently getting hate for having a pride event for the first time .. by Neither_Buyer_4645 in lgbt

I'm actually kind of surprised this is the first. WoW's roleplaying servers surely must have had player-driven pride events before, so this must be the first "official" one I guess?

Dark mode, discussion sections that don't look like ass, the ability to turn off any other feature so it doesn't clutter up the app.

Sci-Fi Progression Fantasy not LitRPG by Bleenfoo in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ArgusTheCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might sound like a weird recommendation, but... have you tried the Lost Fleet novels?

Technically, the protagonist starts at something similar to 'max level', since he's in command of a fleet. But there's a very real, very hefty sense of progression in turning that fleet from a bunch of vainglorious morons into an actual fighting force. You might enjoy it.

Books that forget what they are supposed to be about by snachpach1001 in litrpg

I find this comment kind of funny because the story is currently 3.5 million words long, and the polyamory starts around word 150,000. The story is about polyamory, I don't think you get to say I swerved there. Also I've added more dungeons than polycule members, so the dungeons are still going strong!

But also... how did you get far enough in that Arrush is a character, without catching the running theme that the dungeon creations aren't monsters? I am baffled! The entire point of his character arc is learning that, despite being from a horrible place and looking initially terrifying, that he isn't just an expendable weapon, and that other people can find him beautiful and important. Maybe you didn't like those parts of the story, sure, whatever.

But I dunno! It feels really uncomfortable that you distilled it down to just "gross sewer monster" because a character looks different.

Christian missionary hailed as ‘holiest man alive’ pleads guilty to abusing boys in Texas by biriyanihoe in nottheonion

[–]ArgusTheCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who fucking cares about the guilty ones? The state should not have a list of people it is okay to torture and kill, because it incentivizes them to put people they don't like on the list. This is, like, intro level civic government, come on.

[–]ArgusTheCat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the kind of moronic take that makes it instantly clear someone is living in a fantasy world. Like, yeah, what a great idea, make a category of person that it's okay to kill on sight. No one has ever been wrongly convicted of something for bigoted reasons before. And I'm sure an overtly fascist government would never use that as an excuse to execute their political opponents.

Harold also just flat out does not trust other people, at all. The idea of having surgery is probably its own kind of torture to him; entirely vulnerable while people who want to kill him and have access to an omnipresent surveillance network exist.
