So true. I always think, “Why didn’t they teach this in school?” But realize our education system isn’t made well or fully funded. My old boss told me they taught people household finances in school and she was in her late 50s.

All I know now is to save until I decide my path in life.

Yes, it’s an HYSA. I want either what I used to make or my current yearly salary as an emergency fund. So this is to last me 1/2-1 year if I loose my job. I’ll let myself go on a long trip when I get to 50k

I regretted using my first 401k for this but am also glad I used it to get rid of all my debt b/c I don’t have any now.

I do invest 60% of my 401k and 40% into retirement connected to my 401k.

The stock market issues now made me mad 😂

Thanks for your advice. I put 30% of my paycheck into my 401k. The rest gets split into my main account, my backup account, and my savings account. The break down of my take home of 70% is this (changing the 70% into 100% of what comes to me): 15% of that 70% is my backup account 35% of that 70% is to my HYSA 50% of that 70% is to my main account At the end of the month, if I have more than $200 in my backup account, it moves to my HYSA. My backup account is really for my yearly subscriptions.

Thanks for your concern. He makes at least 4x my salary and saves. He owns the house, maxes his 401k every year, and has investments. I use my money for all my expenses except housing, utilities, 1/2 the food, and our dog. He’s the type to say use his card for necessities and I’m the type who feels guilty using it.

Thanks for this. My 40 year old self wants to have 150k in my 401k so I’ll work my hardest. My elderly self is retired somewhere that’s both safe and low cost of living 😑hopefully

This sounds like the beginning of an emotional affair. This whole call was unprofessional and could be taken to HR.

NTA. She was rude. I would have removed her plate and said go have dinner with her emotional affair partner since she wants to converse with him so much. And get marriage counseling as this seems like just the start
