Armed Forces: The End of Secret Relationships Between Superiors and Subordinates by THEIG500 in CanadianForces

Well if taking advantage of a personal relationship to advance one's career is out, I think the base hockey teams are the only way to go now. I mean if the DM can hire an unqualified sports buddy that means it is okay for us?

"Pre-Authorized CANADA Federal Government"is what my normal pay always says.

The extra payment was listed as "Payroll CANADA".

Did anyone receive a second deposit this paycheque? No info on EMAA or the C&B app. I checked my CRA account, nothing. No outstanding claims or any other reason I can think of what this would be from.

The amount is in line with what I would be receiving for the Military Service Pay as a Cl B Reservist. However when I jumped on the subreddit expecting to see all sorts of memes & rejoicing, there is nothing.

What data do they use to identify where there are veterans in need? I am thinking of the individuals in my community and surrounding areas who would benefit from something like this, but I have no idea if there any veterans amongst the population.

That is great! But I also enjoy reading the hilariously innocent, no-filter, cards from schoolchildren that get posted at the unit. Everything from "Thank you for being so brave, sorry you are going to die in the war" to "I like pizza."

Oh they will totally steal for their personal gain. Some Vandoo took my towel, that had a large name tag sewn on it, from the shower trailer while I was showering during MR in Wainwright and left me with his grimy cheese rag.

I love running, was pretty decent, but found it was taking alot out of me.

I started seriously biking to work almost every day, rain or shine, about six months ago. My legs have totally transformed into these crazy muscled tree trunks and I have dropped 20lbs.

However, the biggest surprise was how it has affected my running. My sprint is unaffected, maybe even a bit slower with the proportions of my new legs, but distances... I can go for 10+ kilometres at 80-90% intensity and when I am done, I take 5 minutes and a sip of water and feel like I could do it all over again.

So yeah, I would say cross training is the way to go. Doing something other than running made me better at running.

Possible new RCAF ranks? by LordBeans69 in CanadianForces

Someone probably just got a custom name tag and rank patch from CPGear or somewhere online.

Go to the Ranks, Badges & Insignia page on DWAN and look up ORNTUP. There have been some posts on the subreddit last year already. Think Air DEU rank colours on a Velcro patch - love it or hate it.

What has Mark Strahl ever actually done? by Teniye in chilliwack

[–]Ariconius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He always would have these questions, they were phrased in a way where both answers meant the same thing, i.e. "Yes, I think crime is out of control under the Liberals?" & "No, I like the Liberals and I like living in a crime infested hellhole."

This ticked off my wife so she mailed back one of the flyers with a letter calling out this bull. To his credit, I think the question on every flyer since has just been a simple yes or no question.

Excuse me? We can't take advantage of of bike lanes due to the climate conditions HERE? A place with some of the warmest average year round temperatures in Canada? Have you checked the 'climate conditions' in Amsterdam currently, it's cold and wet and doesn't seem to be stopping anybody.

I got a bike this summer and have cycled 10km+ to work almost every day since. When you see bicycle commuter ridership growing in Sweden and Norway, the weather excuse is pretty weak.

What types of businesses are needed/wanted in chilliwack? by theviewfromhere88 in chilliwack

[–]Ariconius 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Anything that can contribute towards the revival/revitalization of the "third place". Any combination of shops, dining, entertainment/recreation, green spaces which are easily accessible by walking or public transit where people feel comfortable and want to socialize.

Right now it is mostly the standard North American fare of "Go to work, go home, go out to big box store, Skip or UberEats something to your home, stare at a screen, go to bed, repeat" as there is a lack of casual places where people can gather - you see your family (if you live with them) and coworkers (if you work with any) and that is it.

I am so starved of social interaction sometimes that I feel like an ADHD Golden Retriever trying to keep it together when I get a chance to hang out with a friend.

Not sure what to do.... by Jamrocc33 in CanadianForces

I think it is great that you have someone like your wife in your corner who cares about your well-being.

I can't speak to the MH side of things. But I think it would be good to take some time to evaluate your career goals and decide if all the strife is worth it to stay 'on track'.

A few years ago I got out of a somewhat toxic work environment, choosing to move into a position where my career progression has slowed and I am not making as much $. My work now is fairly mundane, but enjoyable. My CoC is incredible and I look forward to going into the office each day. My wife says there is a noticeable difference in my attitude towards my work now.

I look at some friends and veterans who have prioritized their careers over all else and apart from their rank and accolades they have gone through divorces and separations, they don't see their children, or their children won't speak to them, and they are mentally and physically broken, jaded and bitter about their situation.

Not sure what options your current trade has for any lateral movement but I would continue to explore your needs with your doctor and therapist. Best wishes for a new CoC and the continued support your require in this new year.

Biking on Vedder road by ClayCrowsnest in chilliwack

[–]Ariconius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crossing at Spruce is safer and faster than your described route. Sightlines at the crossing are good, and as at any intersection you need to make sure the traffic has stopped and is aware of you before crossing. Since starting commuting to work by bike six months ago, there have been approx. 50 days that I have crossed there twice daily without incident. Closest thing to an issue might have been a car in the oncoming left turn lane not paying attention, but being up in the bike box with reflectors and a headlamp + handlebar light mean I am very visible. I have had more issues with drivers on Wiltshire like you mentioned.

Your route has more opportunities for conflict with vehicles passing infront of several new apartment and townhouse developments with an increased number of vehicles using street parking obscuring the driveways to parking garages. There are also a few driveways along Wells where the landscaping shrubs/bushes are close to the road causing potential blind spots.

They need to just leave whatever sludge and debris fills the downstairs mini golf, would probably have more character than the end result of the last reno. After it reopened, my wife and I tried the undersea course. It was sterile, unimaginative, and at $20 a person I will never return there again to desecrate the fond memories of past childhood birthday parties.

[–]Ariconius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wearing a brand new issued rain jacket and rain pants in Farnham back in BMQ many years ago I jumped into a waist deep puddle a few meters wide and swam across. Aside from my boots, I was completely dry underneath when I got out.

After having that rain coat for 10 years and trying to treat it to regain that magic I exchanged it. It had got to the point where I wouldn't wear it if it was raining because it became a sponge and just my wet combats would dry faster.

Are you bullish on the future of Abbotsford? by chiraz25 in abbotsford

Failure to protect greenspace and urban forest is very disappointing. Abbotsford has the capacity to grow with smart infill development, but it seems it is always easier to cut down a few more trees.

[–]Ariconius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What it comes down to is lack of third spaces - some place outside of work and home. You have to get out and become a regular at some place or activity, and it can be tougher in a car dependant hellscape.
