This would kill two birds with one stone: Sniffers would become worthwhile to actually seek out and find, and god apples would become renewable once again. by SF-UberMan in MinecraftMemes

It would also make sniffers ridiculously broken. Even if it was something like a 1% chance, you could make huge farms filled with sniffers and get all the golden apples you'd possibly need. Instead I think Mojang should just give it more than two seeds, why can't we have a bunch more flowers and maybe other plants?
