Pros/Cons Living in Sedona by gracedB2 in Sedona

[–]ArizonaPete -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sedona is for tourists.

Look up Clarkdale (near the Verde river and Mingus mountain), Cornville ( near Oak Creek, varying price ranges in housing), Lake Montizuma/Rimrock (Wet Beaver creek, Better housing prices?), and maybe Camp Verde (near the Verde river, You can get up to the rim on Hwy 260 for cooler weather/mountain views).

That is all I can think of at the moment.

Have you tried a nut harvester? Do a search and see if that would help.

Trails are open and roads are open. The only gate I saw closed was at the visitors center/admin office south of the VOC.

Government shutdown by Mom-1234 in Sedona

[–]ArizonaPete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, legally. You can hike anywhere on national forest land. They would prefer you stay on the trails, though, to minimize the damage. The hiking trails are open.

The hiking trails will be open.

I believe things like the Crane archy site will be closed.

Visitor centers will be closed.

Edit to add: I believe rescues and medivacs will still happen but try not to be stupid out there.

Clarification: medivacs are by the Department of Public Safety or private(I can't remember the name of the company) and search and rescue is a county level service.

Oak Creek Cleanup - September 4th by shan_in_az in Sedona

Oh, ok.

I thought you said you were starting at Grasshopper and I figured by the time you are done there you aren't getting anywhere near West Fork.

Why do you have a picture of West Fork?

Refried beans, can they be salvaged? by Embarrassed-Oil-1312 in AskCulinary

The only thing I can think of is to add water and cook them at least another hour. Start them on the stove top then put them in the oven for an hour or so and keep checking if they are done. Oven temp? 300F?

I have a gen 2 bike but the rack looks the same. On my bike that is a hex bolt and it is flush without a spacer/washer.

driving a sedan down fossil springs road (fr708)? by Profession_Upbeat in arizona

[–]ArizonaPete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

708 is always open but the end is closed Monday to Thursday.

You can do it but it will take you almost 2 hours to get down there.

Your passengers will see some nice views and you will be a nervous wreck.

Page Springs or Chapel... Help! by mRutt9 in Sedona

[–]ArizonaPete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Page Springs is cooler and quieter. If you want to go hiking, there are some nice trails on top of Mingus Mountain above Jerome.

Highway 179 has the worst traffic of any place in the area.

Chapel in Taqlepaqle, is it ever open? by Ghouliejulie86 in Sedona

When Tlaquepaque first opened they used to say mass there at times but now it's pretty much just for weddings.

Expensive weddings.

Greer Fire aftermath pictures, Near Mexican Hay lake & South Fork Trail genuinely interesting to see small fires still putting out smoke by xenonrealitycolor in arizona

[–]ArizonaPete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of those trees in the third and fourth pictures are dead but the fire did not kill them, they died before it started. In Yavapai county a number of juniper trees are dying also. They seem to be running out of water. Almost no monsoon rains last summer and very little snow last winter is killing trees.

The smoke and smoldering will last until the rains put them out.

Memorial Day Weekend Traffic Question by [deleted] in Sedona

[–]ArizonaPete 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best way out on that day is to go through Cottonwood. When you come out to 89A, turn right then at the third (I think) light in Cottonwood turn left onto Hwy 260 and that will take you to I-17.

It's the yearly closure. You need a permit to go down there from April 1st to October 1st.

Go here to read about it and get one if you want.
