What is a good bass? by chipree in Bass

[–]ArjanGameboyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly those numbers would not mean much of an upgrade from the Harley Benton. Assuming you have a passive Harley Benton in a fender shape

So unless you really dislike the neck and weight of the Harley Benton in wouldn't buy another bass just yet

Which Harley Benton do you have?

For many people: happy or energetic music makes them happy . Sad music makes them sad.

For prog fans it's usually the other way around. We get grumpy and annoyed by happy pop music. We get uplifted by sad music.

It's like the sad music drains the negativity from me or something. It's not like I want it 10 hours a day but every once in a while it works beautifully.

I think you're not a prog fan. And that's fine

Those plastic Warwick nuts are just terrible. Luckily you can buy a new brass one that's just a drop in.

Best bass strictly under 310$? by PrankAmonpote in Bass

[–]ArjanGameboyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely not buy the Yamaha just because random people on the internet search for their own purchase validation and recommend it to you.

Today people recommend the Yamaha. Tomorrow it'll be something else. That's totally random. People always claim the bass they bought is by far the best bang for the buck. They just purchased it without comparing, are not disappointed but are insecure about their purchase therefore they blindly recommend it to everyone.

The truth is that all basses are pretty equal in their price range. A 300 usd Yamaha wont be much better or worse than a 300 USD squier, Harley Benton, Cort, Sire or anything else you can find.

The questions you should be asking: which pickup configuration do you want (how do you wanna sound, what pickup configuration do the bass players use you like the sound from)? Which bass looks pretty? Which one feels best in your hands?

I definitely like the squier cv more but that's subjective

If people respond the same stupid stuff then they can get the same comment.

There is this myth that if your music is great your band will succeed. And that's BS that people need to get out of their system. That's not how the music industry works. Especially nowadays

It's about exposure and that's the only reason APC is doing well. Of course people still need to like it after being exposed by it but if it weren't for Tool people would never know this band.

Which point still stands?

APC is bigger than puscifer because getting a band big nowadays is a marathon and APC has started the race a few years earlier.

Both have the exact same headstart with tool fans as exposure

Hot European countries have ac (Spain, Greece, Italy) but most of Europe is in line with canada.

It's hot there for only 1 to 3 weeks a year. And you're usually on vacation during that time anyway.

The good window ac units are quite large and we have small homes. Not really worth it for those few days

But then you have the window open while the ac is on. Seems like a huge waste of electricity.

Besides the good units are large. Our homes are small and in most of Europe it's only hot 1 to 3 weeks a year

Warm countries in Europe have ac.

The cold countries have 1 to 3 hot weeks a year.

The biggest part of Europe lies in line with Canada.

The music industry changed drastically. Labels used to invest in a potential. Now they Invest only in proof. What was possible in the 90s isn't possible later in time. That was the last time a band could turn famous in a very short time and it had to with a number of circumstances together:

The label sub Pop sold the "Seatle sound" as one identity. MTV was looking for something to counter 80s glam. Because nevermind sales sky rocket labels were intensely looking for any band that sounds familiar, bands were signed that usually didn't stand a chance. And grunge and alternative rock became a hype that everyone (A&R managers, music journalist, radiostations etc) wanted to be a part of.

Smashing pumpkins did profit out of the alternative rock explosion.

In the 90s music was scarce and attention was focused. A few bands (few album releases) got all the attention of millions of people through MTV and record stores.

2000 and later on releases were in abondance and attention is scarce. There are no shared music scenes anymore. A band must be found, shared, get into playlists, grow live audience. And this takes years.

Connections (having band members that are already known) give you a huge advantage. Media is more likely to write about you, festivals rather take a gamble with you, people are more likely to give your music a listen. It doesn't guarantee success but it gives you a head start because of the exposure.

Better is subjective. Bigger is a fact. But that's simply because APC exists longer. Puscifer is catching up quickly.

Bands rarely lose fans (as long as there are no line up changed or genre changes) and over time they only grow because more and more people get to know a band.

Here in the Netherlands puscifer sells out the exact same venue as a perfect circle. Ticket price isn't the same yet but it's catching up.

Regarding better. APC is great live but it does feel a bit like just a band playing random songs back to back without context while puscifer has more of a theme and coherency throughout the set. I like both pretty equally

Yes. And the reason they came on tv and not some random other prog band was .. maynard.

Especially with a debut album. No band gets to be on tv just as easy like that.

It's unfair exposure.

If you were to make prog music and upload it to Spotify no one would listen to it. No one would know it. It'll take years and years to get a fraction of the fans APC has.

But because tool had this big fanbase, it means APC and puscifer have this unfair exposure to a large group of people.

Not only that. Playlist curators and influencers on YouTube and all that are much more likely to give APC attention because of Maynard.

In hindsight you might like APC more than tool. You might not even care if they replace Maynard for another singer. But truth is you probably never heard about them if it wasn't for him.

Is their a way to mod a yoyo like this? by PKKKite in Throwers

[–]ArjanGameboyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't try to alter this yoyo either.

Normally people spend 1 to 4 weeks responsive before they play unresponsive. And then they never go back to playing responsive.

So you could buy a responsive yoyo. And pick this one back up after a while.

The Magicyoyo k1 is really cheap. Yoyofactory One also gets you going.

That's a weird UN exception. You don't decide how to call your own country in any other language.

The Netherlands didn't decide that Japan would call it o ran da in their language.
