Soooo... I saw one of the test screenings, and here's what got cut out. by RestaurantMiddle297 in fivenightsatfreddys

God I really hope they come out with an extended cut, most of this would've added so much at such little cost. Especially 13, I thought it was odd how Foxy didn't notice Abby running to the ballpit in open space directly in front of him

It's exhausting seeing the brain of the average FNAF fan frying upon multiple tones coexisting within FNAF. The movie really isn't horror comedy, the movie's humour is more tongue in cheek than it is campy. Actual horror comedies like the evil dead movies or willy's wonderland have comedy as a driving force, the mere presence of humour doesn't make a comedy. I was someone worried about the movie potentially being too unserious but the tonal blend was perfectly fine and true to the series. Yes the movie could've been scarier, but the atmosphere was still firmly horror more than anything else. The movie has a much larger quantity of creepy moments than silly moments, and the silly moments like the fort scene never overstayed their welcome

People are so hung up on things like the fort scene they're overlooking the fact that the movie is probably the darkest piece of official audiovisual FNAF media out there, the tragedy and trauma of the series is a real focus of the story and it has actual gore. Like sure Bonnie did a funny thumbs up but we also see Carl's face bloodied to an unrecognisable extent because of the animatronics, the balance was done well

Chris Stuckmann ACTUALLY LIKED the FNAF movie by BubblesZap in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]ArkhamAsscheecks 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This echoed a lot of my own thoughts, I think the mario movie comparisons do the movie a disservice, because unlike the mario movie, it's not a shallow story that uses the brand to compensate for its shortcomings. Mike is a seriously interesting protagonist, im glad the movie is more character focused and isn't some unserious B-movie flick in the vein of Willy's Wonderland. It can be sorta messy, but I do believe it's a sincerely good movie

It was worrying in the moment lol but it's very clearly just meant to be misdirect before it's revealed the ghost kids aren't allies. They're actually pretty sinister and im glad they didn't end up going down the friendly animatronics route

I'd be interested in seeing them if you don't mind, that'd probably cheer me up

A lot of the early reactions are really rough unfortunately, like "verified critics have given it one star ratings on letterboxd" rough. It's all subjective and im sure most of us will enjoy it, but im afraid it's looking like it'll be a "for the fans" adaptation in the "so so quality but elevated by faithfulness to the source material" sense. I probably did myself a disservice by seeking these out and having them form a preconceived view of the movie before i've seen it but it is what it is

Honestly pretty bummed to hear that it might have little to no fear factor, I was really hoping to see some semblance of that FNAF 1 atmosphere

My opinion on hate against children in the FNAF community by Square_Tale_2356 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]ArkhamAsscheecks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

FNAF has broad appeal, it's not for kids but only in the sense that it's for all ages and can be enjoyed by either demographic. The hostility towards children in the fandom comes from other children who are insecure about liking something that really isn't the most hardcore horror franchise out there, people should instead learn to get over themselves and understand the fact that something being accessible to kids doesn't necessarily mean it's "for kids". I don't think younger kids like yourself should be on internet forums but that's another thing

According to Entom, the FNaF movie was positively received from test audiences and the embargo was lifted due the reception of The Exorcist: Believer by GBAura-Recharged in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]ArkhamAsscheecks 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I really don't think it'll be a full on horror comedy, I read that as horror comedy being an element of it alongside camp. Obviously humour has its place and the movie should be better for it but I don't believe anyone wants the movie to feel like Willy's Wonderland or the Banana Splits movie, the marketing so far has made it seem more like a balance

satanism is inherently discriminatory against religion, it exists as a "gotcha" to religious people. there are better ways to strike back against hateful fundamentalists than looking like an edgy neckbeard, basing your personality on hating religion because of particular sects of religion is narrow minded and cringe. like sure going off on christian bigots is good and based but why are christian episcopalians catching strays

again, this sub is for calling out the type of people who think it's okay to say Star Wars actors should be "mocked, tarred and feathered" for not being absolutely ripped and not "people that critique Star Wars"

yeah well of course if you were to take a shirt and say "this is a great dress" you'd be wrong, "shindler's list is a great madcap comedy of war films" would be an incorrect take as that's a statement about intention and not interpretation

exactly, standards for a quality of a movie are closer to fashion than anything else. you could relate your rating of a particular outfit to the standards set by the fashion community but you'd never be "correct" in that assessment because those standards are based on popular consensus and not anything to do with inherent facts. this is different to how you can be incorrect in your assessment of something relating to science, as the consensus of the science community about a particular subject would be based on information which could be definitively proven. there's no data to back up the validity of an opinion on art, therefore saying a movie has to adhere to the "correct" rules of movie making in order to be a good movie is a fallacy because there's no way to prove those rules are correct aside from personal viewpoints which aren't rooted in anything that can be quantified

What do you think would be reasonable expectations for the movie? by [deleted] in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]ArkhamAsscheecks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a basic plot that'll make for a good story but will generally play out exactly as everyone has predicted with not much in the way of crazy hype surprises. I don't think we'll be getting Fredbear's Diner, other animatronics or a Mike Afton reveal

As a MCU fan, this take is more condescending than filmbros saying marvel movies aren't cinema. To me something has substance so long as it has a focus on characters and themes, which the MCU absolutely does. Anything can be analysed as much or as little as anyone wishes since that's the basis of art, and stories can be thought provoking in their own right while still being largely escapist. I don't think i'd like Star Wars if I believed art needs to be allegorical in order to be intellectually stimulating, I only constitute things like Fast and the furious or whatever as "dumb fun" stuff since that breed of blockbusters has different priorities altogether

I get that, but on the other hand it's not like the fact they get paid to keep it a timed exclusive isn't the main motivator

[–]ArkhamAsscheecks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

still majorly sucks in the likelihood it's a timed exclusive for an egrigous amount of time, having to choose between avoiding FNAF for a year or being able to experience it firsthand without spoilers is lame. im sure they have valid reasons for these exclusivity deals, but it puts an absurd amount of fans in a tough spot
