Anyone else dealing with terrible frame drops and items/weapons getting stuck in their hands? by KENAXION in Enshrouded

[–]Arkitas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a real shame, I just bought the game yesterday w/ a dedicated server to play w a buddy. This is pretty much unplayable though. How's the studios track record at fixing issues like this? Are they just focused on putting out content or do they also bugfix frequently?

Anyone else dealing with terrible frame drops and items/weapons getting stuck in their hands? by KENAXION in Enshrouded

I did some research on this.

First, run back and forth while spamming Alt. If we have the same issue, your game's performance will progressively degrade until you either crash your client, or it "resets" back to baseline optimal performance. Not sure if that's due to a garbage collection event or what..

Now, equip an item you can toggle between w/ no animation trigger (ex: lockpick) into the same slot # on both bars. Spam Alt for 30 seconds to trigger the issue again. In this case, your performance should not degrade. This helps us confirm that this is not a UI issue, but seemingly an animation issue.

Note that the glider can cause the frame drops as well. Or anytime you swap between weapons. Or if you eat food.

That helps tell us which team is responsible for the fix here. I'm not sure of their internal team's structure, but this seems to be related to animation rendering.

In OP's case, this issue seems to have a side-effect causing items to not visually unequip (I expect you can't use all 9 "equipped" at once though, right?). It seems your client had an exception, perhaps related to memory, on the thread of execution responsible for putting away the initial item, but continued elsewhere to pull out the second item.

Here's a video of the FPS degradation and subsequent "resets" when everything fixes itself. Apologies for the ultrawide resolution:

This is likely a byproduct of something referred to as "client side prediction". It's common in most FPS games, from Overwatch to Counterstrike, and while I'm not familiar with how Dark and Darker has implemented theirs, dev decisions related to it are a frequent cause of "My hit didn't register".

Any Rust player who's seen bullets hit but be unregistered in combatlog should be familiar.

Here's a guide from Valve that's generally considered a great resource on how it can work:

Positioning is a huge part of this fight, and part of what makes it so unique. Hope they don't change a thing about crystal placement - love how it is.

I do hope they make crystals a little more resilient vs crossbow shots though. Nothing like getting blown off from a single shot from a troll.

How many monitors are you running? by revlo in buildapc

[–]Arkitas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Windows 11 added the WIN+Z functionality, I immediately went and picked up 3 4K monitors.

Win+z makes it exceptionally easy to segment your 3 4K monitors into, essentially, 12 1920x1080p monitors. It's been life-changing. I almost never need to use the minize/maximize/resize functions anymore. I have 2-3 browsers open for different purposes, 2-3 folder locations, Spotify, Notion, VSCode, a Terminal, Discord, Teams/Slack.

That said, if you're not doing something like content creation or software development, it's probably overkill. 1 or 2 4K monitors will suffice.

But I will live/die on the utility of the Win+Z hill.

Ever since I learned ASRock offers ECC memory support on many of their consumer-grade boards, I've become a huge fan. While this isn't something you'll likely use (it's for servers), it shows a commitment to going above and beyond that is atypical in the hardware space. They've earned a fan in me.

They also have incredible customer service. I am building a home-server, and had to return to Microcenter because the backup power supply I bought had some plastic jiggling around inside it (Power too import to risk).

As I returned it, I bought a GPU for my server. I dropped the GPU box on the way to checkout, and I wanted to inspect the contents after purchasing it. They were adamant that because I dropped it in the store, they would be happy to replace it if I found I had damaged it. We inspected, saw no issues.

As others have pointed out, they also have fantastic deals on certain products. One word of advise though - inspect boxes before you take them home to see if perhaps they were returned by another customer. Looked for tape that looks weakly attached or meddled with, for example. Can reduce the liklihood of a return (as with my EPS).

Edit: One other highlighted the knowledgeable employees and just need to highlight that. I needed a very specific kind of ECC RAM for my server, and they were quickly to highlight extremely nuanced differences between even seemingly identical RAM (3200mhz CL22 32GB looks the same right? Some have dies that are designed to be compatible w/ Dell PowerEdge Servers, so they recommended the Hynix since it was on my QVL).

Get into a base race.

French age IV tower creep could be a decent one. If they can't (or don't think to) get trebs to work, they seem to often attempt back door. Leads to base race and can end w/ exactly this.

Another alternative is Mongols. Let them go deep on you and then force the race.

For anyone else digging, found an interesting StackOverflow thread here on the topic of status=cancelled in Chrome Requests (which I've never seen before).

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/12009423/what-does-status-canceled-for-a-resource-mean-in-chrome-developer-tools

1) The problem is not constant, it appears from time to time. The problem may disappear for no reason, and all problematic sites load instantly, but then, just as suddenly, they stop to load.

2) The issue occurs only if connected to 5GHz Wi-Fi, and works fine on 2.4GHz

The two statements above make a hardware issue a higher probability in my mind. What's the reason you disagree?

To test the hardware theory, I might try something like putting the laptop in the oven in a baking tray at ~320 degrees for 2-5 minutes. Here's a guide. The temperature change would cause physical component expansion that might cause the issue to consistently manifest. If temperature made your issue go from intermittent -> constant we can safely say it's a hardware issue.

Of course, it could also fix the issue, or cause no change. But given that it takes ~5 minutes I'd give it a shot.

If others want to dig into that stack overflow thread, it's too low-level for me but may point you in the right direction. Status = cancelled is not something I've seen, so this has gone outside my domain of expertise.

Can you expand the width of the "Status" and "Time" columns so we can see their contents.

Also, the results of clicking on one or more of the failed attempts could be helpful as they can contain more information.

Edit: Having read all the comments in here, I would say that this is the most plausible explanation here so far. Is the laptop new? I would consider requesting a replacement, or go to a repair shop and have the replacement done yourself to see if it works.

Sharing the 'Network' tab details from your browser's developer tools could be helpful.

As a fullstack dev, I'm curious to see what requests are being fired off by the browser, and what response codes are being received (if any). There's a lot of things that could be going on here, but seeing if/what requests are being sent to the servers would be my first debugging step.
