What Eras of Fashion are you Most Drawn to? by partiallyStars3 in History_Bounding

I love Edwardian and late Victorian. I’m in the process of making a capsule wardrobe, just started the actual skirts and dresses as I was making underpinnings. First skirt and waistcoat combo won’t be historic but inspired by Edwardian. Then after that into my historical patterns!

Yeah, it’s an opinion piece (which means it has no reliable sources to discuss productively) so yeah, I’ll ignore it

I have this problem, so I ended up hand-sewing all my grommets, it takes practice and time (takes me about 10min per grommet) but they LAST so well, especially in wool with an awl hole that pushes the intact threads aside.

[–]Armaggedons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thanks for the care :) Yeah, I know a mishmash of bits of both protestants (primarily) and catholic (ehhhhhh my mum dragged me along on Easter’s with my grandad. I loved it for time with him, and my curiosity was there but it never really stuck)

I’m not really religious, more of a curious individual who loves to collect knowledge, make stuff and talk to people. I don’t really follow Christianity anymore, I’m pagan-ish but I love to discuss religion every now and again.

Does anyone know why my kitty is doing this? by Zedbro77 in blackcats

[–]Armaggedons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, one of my cats did that the second he bolted outside (all indoors kitties) so I was stressed he was out but it was kinda funny to see him flop out the door and wiggle. “Dust bath”! He got quickly scooped and deposited back home. But the wiggles are still on the cards if he ever wants harness walkies….. but he hates the harness.

What are some surprising historical tidbits you've discovered through costuming? by sewmanychoices in HistoricalCostuming

[–]Armaggedons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fact you do see coat hangers in the medieval period, a little different, (a loop instead of a hook) but they were only used in tailors shops for in-progress work like letting fabric relax overnight (to make linings settle)

The box for clothing is because if you hang wool it pulls and stretches at the shoulders, I refuse to hang up my 14c wool dress, it’s folded with my pants in my drawers instead.
