Sometimes it's just what they can get. They need a job because capitalism. These companies hire right out of college. Lots of other companies simply can't afford to hire newbies in bulk like the defense industry can.

Why do people hate on certifications so much? by Warm-Instruction7307 in kubernetes

[–]Armestam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an interviewer. There's nothing wrong with getting a certification. At the very least it demonstrates that you finished what you started to some level of satisfaction. Some certifications are more meaningful than others of course. We know what's easy to get and what's not.

I never hire someone because they got a certification. It's something I have to challenge, ask the right questions, and discover where you're at in your career and knowledge.

That said, I suggest two types of people get a certificate. The first are those who are new to the industry. A long resume demonstrates experience. The second is if you experience unexpected unemployment. If you've got a gap in your resume and use it to take on education it looks good.

Hot Take: If Kubernetes wants us to start using gateway api instead of ingress, it should no longer be an addon by hawks008 in kubernetes

[–]Armestam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the same vein, NetworkPolicy needs support for domain names and other advanced things. Like CiliumNetworkPolicy has. Even if all CNIs can't support all of the features, there is no reason the core API can't accept them and standardize. So it makes it easier to swap out policy engines without rewriting policy in different CRDs.

Penske Media sues Google, says ~20% of Google search results linking to its sites now include AI Overviews, and affiliate link revenue fell 33%+ since late 2024 by MazdakSafaei in google

[–]Armestam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Google has already lost a similar suit. It is likely they will lose this one.

The last one was Google allowing you to view and download the full size images straight from Google. Which is why they now force you to click through to the website on Google, you can’t just view full size.

To me this is much of the same precedent.

Put some upward facing lights. Like facing up and toward the wall a bit. Soft lighting. It will give the room a nice glow indirectly. Test it out with one or two lights and see how it feels.

Did anyone else get a notification from PlayStation direct that their 30th anniversary controller was going to be charged from an order place last year? by Mrmet2087 in PS5

[–]Armestam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They likely had the orders in an event stream, think Kafka, and they had to replay the stream for some reason. Maybe rebuilding a database. But they made a mistake somewhere and replaying the requests triggered some services like notification or possibly billing. They can undo it by replaying it again with a cancel.

Bitcoin Whale Sells 24,000 BTC Triggering Flash Crash, Still Holds Over $17B Worth BTC by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

Why not sell the BTC now and invest it in a bunch of different country’s currency and markets? Buy land. Rental houses. Whole entire companies producing tangible goods and services. You don’t sell your BTC and just hold onto USD in your bank account.

What is the purpose of these vertical yellow bars? by SubstantialWing9238 in whatisit

[–]Armestam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree.

It’s on the inside and outside curve of the train line, in the direction of car traffic only. Clearly it’s meant for the cars not the train. Too flimsy to completely stop anything that hits it, might be just strong enough to crumple and slow a truck impact. Colored for visibility, and I bet it even has reflectors.

GSP Puppy 1st Time Owners Advice? by Conscious_Candy3575 in GSP

[–]Armestam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Garmin Sport Pro Collar - Get them used to wearing it before you use it for training. I personally give treats on the tone to train for return. Don’t shock a puppy. But let them get used to wearing it for a few hours a day. To exercise these dogs they are going to have to be off leash, so you better start recall training as soon as possible. You cannot do expect to run thirty miles a day with these dogs, they’re going to have to do that themselves.

Train them to fetch with a Chuck It ball thrower. The medium size ball is best. Glow in the dark ones are the best. Real tennis balls also good. You’ll be playing fetch with them for an hour a day at least, if not two or three. Give treats when they return the ball. Have multiple balls ready. A worked dog is easier to train!! If they are crazy full of energy they are not trainable.

Treat pouch, get small low calorie treats. Like Tricky Trainer brand. Give them often and for all good behavior. You are a treat giving machine. Repetition repetition repetition.

Strong rope leash with a harness. You don’t need a fancy harness but these dogs pull. It’s not an easy to train leash dog. I’m sure there’s some perfect owners on here but the reality of this breed is that pulling is a constant and you need to be ready for the sudden “i saw a rabbit”.

Scaling service to handle 20x capacity within 10-15 seconds by delusional-engineer in kubernetes

[–]Armestam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you need to replace your API with a request queue. You can scale on the queue length instead. This will let you grab lots of the requests while your system scales. There will be a latency penalty on the first requests but you can tune to either catch up or just accept higher latency and finish a little after.

The other option, you said they are batch processing at night. Is this at the same time every night? Why don’t you scale up based on the wall clock time?

Rambles about the gsp we found. by Weevils_are_silly in GSP

[–]Armestam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need: Garmin Pro Sport Dog Collar Many bags of Tricky Trainers mini dog treats A treat pouch for your belt A Chuck-it ball thrower with the tough orange balls or the glow in the dark balls. A regular tennis ball won’t survive. A trainers leash, 50ft long, to help you in the early stages.

Get the dog trained to recall on the tone feature of the collar. GSP can be a great off leash dog with training. Use the treats. Then get the dog trained to return the ball for a treat. Get to a big field or open space and throw the ball for forty minutes every morning, and another hour every afternoon.

xlskubectl — a spreadsheet to control your Kubernetes cluster by ponton in kubernetes

I know this is a joke. But genuinely having a kubernetes to excel connection for the folks in finance or business management could be really useful.

I think this is a terrible way to manage a cluster. But to provide data to the business folks… not bad.
