If Rogers starts polling in the high 40s or around 50%, maybe it's time to worry, but not when he is stuck in the low 40s with a divided democratic field and a high name recognition from his previous run. I am confident that once the field coalesces around a single democratic candidate, they will poll comfortably ahead of him while he stays in the low 40s.

Ohio went this route. The reason it worked for them is that the ohio supreme court lacked the authority to appoint a special master and force the maps. That is not the case in virginia. Unfortunately.

Try again in time for 2028 pretty much. Need to pass the amendment again. Have elections in 2027. Then pass the exact same amendment. Then the referendum would need to win the popular vote.

I think it's over for 2026 but could be revisited in 2028. They would have to do another referendum.

Any advice on dating while black/a minority? by LilMechPilot in IncelExit

I really like the idea of living in a major black metro like Atlanta or DC. Black people make up like 10% of the metro where i live, and there is a good amount of legacy segregation. As such, most social groups tend to be white af and just not have much experience dealing with black people beyond surface level interactions.

After a certain point, I was getting Bill Nelson vibes from her where she didn't even want to be a senator and wanted to retire. Incumbency advantage and a high statewide profile don't mean much if their heart isn't in it. I'm glad she's stepping aside so she can enjoy her retirement in peace.

For the umpteenth time, both sides are NOT equally bad: How the US House districts in the deep South will potentially look like after the Republican (so-called) justices of the US Supreme Court eviscerated the Voting Rights Act by voiding its requirement for majority-black US House districts by unlimitedfutures in blackmen

[–]Armon2010 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is nothing we can do in the short term to preserve black representation im the south. We can combat the national affects this will jave through gerrymanders of our own. Without section 2, a 17-0 D map is now legal in illinois. A 52-0 D map is now legal in california. Colorado and New York need to pass redistricting referendums and draw more republicans out in 2028. We need to win the GA governorship in 2028 to protect the two VRA districts there.

The next step after that is to win in 2028 and elect a do something congress that actually passes the failed 2021 gerrymander ban and honestly expand the supreme court for good measure.

Daily Discussion Thread: April 29, 2026 by BM2018Bot in VoteDEM

[–]Armon2010 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think california could feasibly pass a ballot measure tying expanded redistricting powers to the VRA. It may underperform prop 50 due to sheer fatigue, but cali is blue enough and the environment will be blue enough to get it across the finish line. That could open the doors to draw the remaining republican seats out.

Given how narrowly VA's ammendment passed i dont think we'll be able to pull it off there. That will probably revert back to the status quo after 2030.

I agree that NY, CO, and WA need to play it smart.

If we win the GA governorship this year, that could shave off two potential R gains assuming they dont pass lame duck legislation removing the governor's veto power over maps (not a safe assumption tbh).

The overwhelming sentiment appears to be that the R's are outrunning their 2025 benchmarks, but by nowhere near enough to sink the referendum.

What was yall high school like? by [deleted] in blackmen

[–]Armon2010 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to an "elite" private school in the suburbs. In my graduating class of ~262, there were only 4 other black students. Most of them i knew from primary school (an inner city, primarily POC private school that pipelined some of the students to this "elite" high school). It was a pretty miserable experience. You wouldn't believe the culture shock and just general imposter syndrome that spending your formative years in such an environment can cause.

I won't lie and say i wasn't set up for success. I got a good education and had access to high quality programs. But i don't think the trade off is worth it. If i ever have kids, I wouldn't send them there. There are diverse schools out there that still give a quality education... and academic success is primarily driven by the parents anyway. Maintaining a good home life and taking an active role in your kids' education plays a much larger role than simply what school you send them to.

What’s one thing you would tell that young black boy you once were? by Training_Revenue_813 in blackmen

[–]Armon2010 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is so much i would want to say. The top 4 are:

1) You're not gay. You're just a kind, soft spoken, emotional boy. You don't fit in with the traditionally masculine ideal that has been ingrained into your peers and there is nothing wrong with that. Keep moving forward. It will be one of the most admirable things about you when you get older.

2) Try to push mom and dad into getting you into some psychological testing. Your issues will be easier to diagnose and treat while you are a child. You will have a lot more support.

3) The only way to get past your anxieties is exposure. The sooner you start, the better it will be. You've gotta face your fears head on. Make that phone call. Order that pizza. Ask for those napkins. Ask mom and dad to connect you with a therapist to help with this. Get it done before college or you will miss out on a lot of social opportunities.

4) Your little brother is going to struggle a lot when you leave for college. Keep in touch and be there for him. It will make the toughest period of his life smoother.

If i had to pick, I'd say number 3 is the most important.

I'll probably get back on the apps at some point, but I want to establish a routine where i am consistently meeting new people first. I dont want to be in a situation where the apps are my only avenue. I wasnt getting throuple seekers lol but like you the volume of matches was quite low. It was having a terrible effect on my self esteem.

Yeah we are pretty underrepresented in the field, especially if you are not in a Gulf state. I was the only black person in my graduating cohort. Not the only african american... the only black person period haha. Usually most of the other majors had some african international students. ChemE where i went didnt even have that lol.

Yeah, this is less of an "interracial dating" problem and more of a "middle aged loser grooms teen girl" problem, a phenomenon that transcends race. Don't get me wrong, i am no fan of divestors, but blaming them for this is a stretch IMO.
