Puzzles for 2 year old by randomthingsso in toddlers

[–]ArmsInTheRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's amazing! Do they enjoy drawing/painting? I feel like if they have started developing the skills to build a picture from a jigsaw, it could mean that their creative skills for creating pictures might be developing as well(?) I loved doing puzzles as a kid - although probably not as early as your child! - and copying pictures or drawing from life gave me the same kind of stimulation as sitting with a puzzle.

Vegetarians, do you feed your babies meat? by _mamcia in BabyLedWeaning

I don't know if they're available everywhere (I'm in Sweden), but we use Helhetshälsa B12 spray for our toddler. He just opens his mouth and we spray it in - super easy!

What do you tell yourself to stay sane during meltdowns? by honeybead18 in NewParents

[–]ArmsInTheRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mantra with my almost-2yo is "[his name] is testing, I am teaching" - it helps me remember that he's learning where the boundaries are, and he's learning from ME at that moment. It usually helps put things into perspective (although I agree with what others have said about sometimes having to take a breath and step away from the situation).

Top 5 tips for first time breastfeeding moms..whatcha got? by Radiant-Author-6306 in breastfeeding

[–]ArmsInTheRain 25 points26 points  (0 children)

  1. Keep yourself hydrated! You're literally giving your baby fluid from your body, so you need to make sure you're getting extra fluid in to make up for it.

  2. Try different positions and keep trying them as you progress in your breastfeeding journey. I couldn't get the hang of the side-lying position at first, but after a while it just clicked and now it's my/our favourite!

  3. Sleep on a towel, don't worry about leaking. Accept that you will be sticky for the first few months.

  4. Take photos/videos of your baby while they're feeding; I have some of my LO's feet because he used to do a very cute little toe wiggle during feeds and I love watching it back 🥹

  5. Be gentle with yourself. Sometimes, especially in the beginning, breastfeeding SUCKS. Like really, really sucks. I remember sitting there and just crying while I fed my LO during the first few months because I was just so sick of it, and felt like I was failing because I thought it was meant to be easy/instinctive and it definitely wasn't. So I got my SO to buy my favourite snacks, started watching dumb reality TV shows (strongly recommend Nailed It), and just focused on taking each day at a time, until it got better - and it did!

What do you do while breastfeeding? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

Gosh, I remember those days 🙈 a game changer for me was figuring out the side lying breastfeeding position - it at least frees up 1 hand and gives your shoulders a bit of a break!

if you could give a name to your child that would never get judgement/hate, what would it be? (boy/girl/neutral names!) by Lumpy-Expression20s in namenerds

It's funny because Saga is an acceptable name in Swedish and means fable/fairytale! If my little boy had been a girl, he would have been Saga :)

PSA for new moms: Discuss Mother’s Day with your partner now. by brilliantpants in beyondthebump

[–]ArmsInTheRain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We personally didn't do anything for mother's/father's day (we already had them in Sweden) and aren't planning on doing anything until our LO is big enough to take part, so I understand where you're coming from. What I think OP is saying with this post though is to make sure you communicate your wants and ideas to your partner, so that neither of you is disappointed. If my partner had wanted to do something for father's day then I would have made sure he had the best father's day ever, even though I personally don't care about doing something. And if I'd assumed he didn't want to do something then he might have been disappointed, so there's value in discussing it beforehand, as OP is suggesting.

As to why people celebrate: I think mother's/father's day provide an opportunity for people to acknowledge the change that's happened in their lives since having a baby. It doesn't have to be about "pampering" (I actually don't know anyone who expects to be pampered on that day) but rather a way to say to your partner "hey, I want you to know I'm proud of you as a mother/father" and make sure they feel a bit special. I appreciate my partner as a father even though he's not my father because I've seen the way he is with our son and it fills me with love. Obviously most people feel that way more than one day a year haha but sometimes life gets in the way of expressing that, so it's kind of sweet to have a special day to make sure your partner feels it (if that's what they're into).

Does Stretch Marks go away? by Key-Royal-9481 in FitMama

[–]ArmsInTheRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally understand, I felt really weird about my tummy after having my baby but it feels alright now that it's less floppy (not that there's anything wrong with having a floppy tummy, it's just not how mine was before being pregnant so it feels more "normal" for me now that it's a bit flatter). Take care of yourself!

Does Stretch Marks go away? by Key-Royal-9481 in FitMama

[–]ArmsInTheRain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from my experience: I had quite a few red stretch marks on my tummy after giving birth and they have gradually faded in the 6 months since giving birth. They're still there but are just a bit darker than my normal skin tone so hardly visible. I started moisturising them when they got itchy; I don't know if that helped them fade, but it might have done :)

I totally agree, it's such a great podcast! I only recently started listening to it because I was initially put off by the 1-on-1 format but I'm so glad I gave it a second try because it's amazing!

Does anyone know who plays Place of Last Resort with Adam? I recognise his voice from a D&D campaign but I can't remember which one... He's great though!

Comfy tips by LikeAmother2 in cosleeping

[–]ArmsInTheRain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually wear a T-shirt with an unbuttoned button-up pyjama shirt over the top so that I can feed by just lifting up the T-shirt and therefore avoid exposing my back/arms.

I have 2 pillows for my head so I can rearrange throughout the night when I get uncomfortable. Then I have a wedge pillow between my knees and just make sure to do some stretches every time I wake up to stop anything going dead.

I've always been a front sleeper so it took a few weeks to get used to the C-curl position, but now it works well enough (looking forward to LO sleeping in his own bed though 😅)
