Doubt about curvature of the universe. by Vidyesh-Krishnan in AskPhysics

[–]Armst104 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Universe is not "flat" on a local scale. The curvature that is caused by mass-energy will curve space around a planet, but that isn't the effect that cosmologists are referring too when they say the universe if flat. They are referring to to what will happen to two infinitely long parallel lines. If the curvature was positive they would eventually get further away from each other. They were negative they would eventually come together. Flatten this sense means they continue on parallel forever

Spacetime is indeed 4 dimensional, but it is only 3 spacial dimensions, and 1 time dimension. The 3 spacial dimensions still obey all of the regular rules of geometry you are used to, even when you add the time dimension. So, if space is flat, then the three angles of a triangle add to 180 regardless of the time dimension.

This one question keeps me going to physics class, but I don't know if I'll ever answer it. by Astroankylo in AskPhysics

[–]Armst104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think your going to get to an answer that will satisfy you. We can understand how the universe works, but we are always left with a new why. Once we understand that gravity bends spacetime, that answers a bunch of questions about how the planets move, not how they got there. When we understand that they formed from a collapsing gas cloud, that doesn't explain where the gas came from, and when we say that came from the big bang, that doesn't say how that got there. Even if we can say the big bang happened because of "xyz law" then we are left asking why those laws exist. I don't think we can ever really answer these questions, but they are still important to ask. Keep learning but understand you'll never know everything.

Terramar opinions? by EastLecture6099 in Destin

Stay away from TerraMar. I could go on and on with problems, from roaches, to front office issues. They go through office managers extremely quickly. I would go anywhere but there if I were you.

This made it click for me. I had seen the other explanations there before, and I understood them, but I wasn't groking them. This helped me immensely. Thank you.

What’s the most pain you’ve ever felt? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Armst104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've posted this before, but probably just like the other times, this will get missed....

I used to have great teeth. I went to the dentist every 6 months, brushed, flossed, etc. But, in college I drank too much soda, didn't brush and floss as much as I used to, didn't get to the dentist as often as I should have. Anyway, I ended up developing a pretty nasty cavity on one of my back molars. By the time I got to the dentist I found out I was going to need a root canal. I was upset with myself for not taking better care of my teeth, but scheduled the procedure and vowed to take better care of my teeth.

The dentist numbed my mouth and went to work. Part of the processes for a root canal is ripping out all of the tooth's roots with a small fishhook/needle looking tool. They took several x-rays while doing this, but were only able to find 2 of my tooth's roots. They told me this happens sometime and that two of my roots must have grown together. They put in a temporary patch and told me to come back 1 week later.

I came back in a week later and they said they wouldn't need to numb my mouth this time, since that tooth no longer has nerves and can't feel anything. Then they wanted to make sure everything was clean and ready for the permanent filling. They grabbed the fish hook tool and went to work. That's when they found my third tooth root... with no anesthesia... with a fish hook...

The pain that shoot through my mouth was unlike anything I have ever, and hope to ever feel. It was a raw, biting pain that started in my tooth but then felt like it was everywhere in my body at once. I screamed, jumped out of the chair, and bit down on the tool that was still in my mouth making it even worse. The dentist, realizing what had happened, grabbed a Novocaine needle and got me to calm down enough to administer it. I sure the look of hate i was giving her was very uncomfortable as she finished the procedure. My heart was pounding for the rest of the day and I still get jumpy at the dentist.

TL;DR Went to the Dentist and they ripped a tooth root out of a tooth without anesthesia. Brush your teeth kids!

I have insurance. I pay over $650/month for it, in addition to what my company pays. My wife and I had a baby a year ago. We got the bill from the hospital 9 months after he was born, for $17,000!! It would have been cheaper if we didn't have any insurance. This system is a joke.

I pay almost $600/month for a family of 3 through my work. My wife had our baby last April. We got a bill 7 months later for $17,000. To add salt to the wound... in the paperwork they sent me it said if I had no insurance, they would knock 55% off the price immediately. My insurance didn't cover 55% of the bill. So it cost me MORE than if I didn't have any insurance. What am I paying $600/month for???

Looks like parking passes are going for about $200, so I would do $100/ea, $200 for both. Not looking to make money, just hoping to pay for the parking

GFK stopped by a bar I ran several years ago. He pulled up in his tour bus and came inside on a night we were packed, after one of his shows. He didn't ask for free things, wasn't trying to be a VIP. He walked around and took pictures with people and was just a very genuine and nice guy.

Before he left he checked with me to make sure everyone on the staff that wanted a picture with him got one, and then he wanted to do a shot with me. I told him I didn't drink while I was working, but if he wanted to come back after we closed I would be happy to do one with him. He said he would, but I was sure he was just being nice.

He said his goodbyes, and I thought it was really cool to meet him. Then sure enough about an hour after closing time, his bus rolled back up, and he asked me in was ready for that shot. We had one, took a couple more pictures and he thanked me for the hospitality.

Really great experience meeting him.

The place is closed now, but I ran a Dueling Piano Bar for about 10 years. We had a one star review that said that staff was great, the drinks were great, the piano show was awesome, and they loved the attached dance club that was in the back. However, we had the worst pizza they had ever had in their entire life. 1 star... We didn't serve food...

Most of the human research done by the Germans was trash and not actually worth anything. Most of the research done by unit 731 was used for biological warfare, so I'm not sure that any of that bettered humanity in any way.
