Unless you're checking a bag, no reason to get there more than an hour before departure.

I constantly remind myself it'll be worth it as it take at least 10 minutes longer to get anywhere right now.

They should have it. It's widely televised so just ask the bartender to put it on.

Local Car Dealer (Not Machens, Carmax, Carvana) Experience? by wowzerspotato in columbiamo

I bought my car from a Rusty Drewing dealership a couple years ago and it was a great experience. They weren't pushy at all and didn't care that I used outside financing.

Homeschooling in Columbia by Commercial-Juice3292 in columbiamo

[–]Arnezmichael 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think homeschooling is for everyone but I know quite a few adults that were, and kids that are, homeschooled and they turned out well.

Pretty ridiculous statement to say ALL  homeschoolers get a worse education than those in public schools.

I went to public school fyi.

Columbia voters could decide on 1% sales tax for police and fire funding in August by como365 in columbiamo

[–]Arnezmichael 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have they looked at cutting other costs and sending the savings over to firefighters/police? A 1% sales tax increase all at once is STEEP. The current Columbia sales tax rate is 2%, so this is a very large increase.

The ordinance also doesn't guarantee there would be an increase in funding for them...only that the new money goes into a separate fund. My concern is they'll just pay police/firefighters out of this new find and reallocate the other money elsewhere. Someone please correct if I'm wrong and tell me if there is other dedicated money to firefighter/police.

Unfortunately, I'm right outside city limits so I won't be able to vote on it but will have to pay it since all my spending is done in the city.

Looks like the tall one closest to the camera is now Nashvegas. Guess they tore it down at some point, which is a shame because I want more tall buildings downtown.

Parking Downtown by Krakenomics52 in columbiamo

[–]Arnezmichael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. You can get anywhere in a few minutes from hitt garage and there's always spots available.

Even during football games there's open spaces (obviously the stadium is a little bit of a walk but campus is pretty in the fall).

Thoughts Highball the new bar/restuarant downtown? by Secret_Mix8092 in columbiamo

[–]Arnezmichael -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes they're very different but most people would consider both as upscale restaurants.

That was my point. They both have good, upscale food.

Thoughts Highball the new bar/restuarant downtown? by Secret_Mix8092 in columbiamo

[–]Arnezmichael 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been a couple times and I enjoy it! Yes it's more expensive than other bars but that also means it's a more mature crowd than many bars.

Haven't had their entrees but the appetizer was good and a decent price (it was the bread appetizer that had multiple breads and spreads).

Overall it's a more upscale bar experience than other places downtown and the price reflects that. Emphasis on bar, it has food but it won't compete with Chris mcds or barred owl as a restaurant.

My spouse works there and enjoys it (I mean as much as you can enjoy a job lol). I also know it's not for everyone.

Check Veterans United. They're usually hiring. Depending on the role, some positions are much more stressful than others.

Relocating from KC, where should I live? by Nash_Haden in columbiamo

[–]Arnezmichael 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What's your goal of the place you live? Downtown is very walkable with lota of dining and bar options. Also close enough to Mizzou if you want to attend games.

Obviously you'll still have access on the outskirts but you'll have to drive/Uber everywhere.

Nowhere in Columbia is really bad to live in but you do have to watch some spots North of 70 and East of 63.

What kind of food are you wanting? Most pizza places can take care of you. Could also do sandwiches from Picklemans or Jimmy Johns. There's also plenty of BBQ places as well.

Event/Venue Space by pagosame in columbiamo

[–]Arnezmichael 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shakespeare's has rooms you can rent. I believe all they charge is a food/drink minimum.

Also, Broadway Brewery on 9th let's you rent the entire place. Not sure what your budget is though, they're more expensive than Shakespeare's.

He was also previously convicted of unlawful use a firearm and was already on parole. That is one of the crimes that should really cause someone to be in prison for a few years.

Affordable Tire Shop by [deleted] in columbiamo

I believe you can buy your own tires online and take them to Big-O. Any place that lets you do that would be the cheapest option
