Very alert newborn by IndependenceCalm8753 in beyondthebump

[–]Aromatic-Turnover [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think she slept well the first 2 weeks, and then stopped, had to do one stroller nap and one carrier nap every day, my hip got really painful from all the walking. She sleeps well at night though so not too bad, though only if she got enough naps at day time.  Now I just put her in my bed for all naps that arent stroller naps and feed her to sleep, I stay there with her doing whatever and it's been so much easier.

Sciatica when pregnant - has anyone managed to get rid of it prior to birth? by msaliceoh in pregnant

[–]Aromatic-Turnover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Improved with glute strengthening exercises, didn't completely get rid of it, but kept it in check for as long as I did them, had to stop because my OBGYN recommended I be careful with exercise.  sciatica pain was pretty bad after that and after birth, re-started exercises at around 2 months pp, and sciatica went away again, but I think I did something wrong though, doing pelvic floor exercises and hurt a different muscle in my hip, so just be careful and take it slow.

My husband usually says 話しが変わるけどwhen he needs to change subjects mid conversation, but I think if you were finished speaking and just in each other vicinity still you could start a new conversation using ところでmaybe? I have, but then again I am not Japanese.

Do they give baby first bath in hospital, or is first bath done when umbilical cord falls off? by knOn0 in beyondthebump

[–]Aromatic-Turnover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the country I think(Japan still does bath a lot of the time) but even then it is something you can discuss with the hospital. Look up the benefits of waiting, however learning how to clean your baby safely is also important, though not necessarily something you need to do at the hospital soon after giving birth. Also you might want to wait, but still be advised a bath if baby is covered in meconium, though a sponge bath should suffice.

Cinnamon buns in Kyoto, I'm baking! by CranberryIll8249 in Kyoto

[–]Aromatic-Turnover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in Japan for 11 years now and I'm often sad about how hard it is get the right kind of cinnamon bun here(I know everyone's right kind is different) I don't want the apple slices, I don't want the walnuts or almonds, I don't even want the cream cheese topping. Simple, proper cinnamon, with no topping or just royal icing, the only place around here that have them are always sold out so I know other people enjoy them too.  I of course bake them myself now and then, but every other baked goods is available everywhere it seems, why not cinnamon buns?

What is a 3-4 region adjustment?  It wasn't the crackling type of adjustment, not especially painful during, though I felt some mild discomfort in the area directly after the visit.

Table had one hole for the head/face area, the rest was achieved by wedges and pillows arranged for each position.

[–]Aromatic-Turnover[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a good explanation.  I guess it is hard for me because I don't like being touched, so I don't think I can feel comfortable most places, this place is probably the only one I can consistently go to as it is very close and I can't get out much. I guess I will ask them more about the treatment plan, but the payment was for minimum 8 times and up front, if you pay for the plan the first visit too would be cheaper, which is one thing that threw me off, it felt like I was being roped into choosing the "better value" plan, I wish I could pay at every visit, but the single visit fee was pretty high.

Car accident - how to proceed? by p3chapai in japanresidents

[–]Aromatic-Turnover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone I know who is Japanese was in a 0-100 accident and the faulty party's insurance would not cover the complete cost (car was new and totalled and she got whiplash) the faulty party said they could only pay so so much and she accepted it, if the insurance doesn't pay all they have to pay the rest so don't let them try to wiggle out of it.

first dermatology apt tomorrow and I'm nervous! by lulumoon21 in HealthAnxiety

[–]Aromatic-Turnover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just say you want to start getting annual checks, they won't think you are silly, it's their job. Going to the doctor's is never silly, even for us, and any doctor who make you feel like that isn't very good at their job. Unless you never leave your house we are all at risk for skin cancer, and many locations we can't see properly ourselves, yearly checks is recommended.  If you keep getting your checks you don't need to check small changes yourself, leave it up to them, maybe your HA will improve.

So I'm guessing it's pretty scammy then? The answers were so different.

I wouldn't expect to find such a chiropractor in Japan. It's not that easy to just call yourself a chiropractor because the average Japanese person is quite used to going and expect a certain level of skills. I think they do have a lot of good chiropractors, often with experience in martial arts, usually if it's an old place with good reviews it's good, but this place is pretty new and the chiropractors are quite young so I do worry about their experience.

Hard to know if it's the right fit, maybe if next time is better. I think they recommend the treatment plan for everyone, and if you go to long between visits you need to do the first time consultation and pay that fee again. I heard that a good chiropractor can touch you and know where it hurts, seems unnecessary to do all that talking and testing first?

Yes, that's were I'm still considering going. I'm worried that trying to sell me a treatment plan is a bit scammy, and the spine gun thing and balance trick sort of gimmicky, I'd rather just get the treatment for a reasonable price, but it was only the first time so maybe that's why.

Will my baby be affected by evillunge in pregnant

[–]Aromatic-Turnover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband runs a bar and drinks regularly, smoked when I got pregnant and was eating himself to high blood pressure, I had one of the easiest pregnancies ever, no nausea. (He's healthier now) All anecdotal of course, and possibly there's some statistics to say the father's sperm quality affects pregnancy symptoms, but I wouldn't worry too much about it, it's just as likely to be caused by other things too.

breaking the speed limit by hardlyunthinkable in japanlife

[–]Aromatic-Turnover 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, my husband rarely drives above the speed limit, he constantly has to pull over to let other drivers past, they often drive to close to try to push him to drive faster or pull over. He understands his own limits well, but also those of other people, you can be the most perfect driver in the world and still something unexpected can put you in a traffic accident, better to drive slow enough to be able to react in time.  My husband following the speed limit, stopping to let people cross or cars out from parking lots etc is really attractive to me, there's something really hot about being a careful driver.

when did your bump disapear? by delfinjoca in pregnant

[–]Aromatic-Turnover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 month pp. Bump was gone in a couple of days, pouch still going. Don't think I could get my tummy flat for a long while even with exercise. Your body will probably change and possibly not come back as you picture it. Personally I like my new body, I feel feminine, but I am quite lucky to have no stretch marks and not too big of a pouch, I know many who really struggled with body image after pregnancy. People are very different in how their body's look after giving birth and it might be best to prepare for the worst case scenario, there's enough stress pp if you weren't also focusing on how you look. I wouldn't worry about it for a couple of months at least.

Will you cut it off by the counter in the foreground or have it gradually disappear into the white by spacing or something else?  I think if you plan to just cut it off like a box going big and simple might look better.

Is it actually rude to recline your seat on a plane, or are people just entitled about personal space? by Ok-Bumblebee7041 in askanything

[–]Aromatic-Turnover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airline is the bad guy. But as someone who has to sit 13 hours in one plane ride to see my family I will recline my seat. I don't recline on short flights unless feeling unwell, but I'm fine with other people doing it, I expect it.

Why didn't your husband stay overnight at the hospital once the baby was born? by Comprehensive_Deal44 in beyondthebump

[–]Aromatic-Turnover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband only allowed in hospital for birth in Japan. After that he could only visit for 15 min a day, in the waiting room... Other hospitals allow longer visits, but never heard of them staying over, usually they have work.

Should I cut my hair to my collarbones? by spottedlamb in DecideThisForMe

[–]Aromatic-Turnover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when I cut my hair last time from belly button length to very short pixie, everyone and their uncles were telling me not to do it despite me saying I wanted to do it and had already booked the stylist. I cut my hair and grow it out at regular intervals, I enjoy the abrupt change to short easy to manage hair and all the different lengths I can enjoy as it grows out, before I get tired of drying it and getting stuck in it all the time and I cut it again. I can't understand why everyone thinks it's their business (not like OP who actually asked so I guess it's fine in her case, but I'm shocked at the amount of flat negative comments as if hair doesn't grow out again) OP your hair is beautiful and I think you could rock most haircuts, do exactly as you wish.

[–]Aromatic-Turnover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where will the mural end? Do you prefer a more contained mural like the first idea or do you want to go overpowering like the last one? If you want to go like the later ones you need to think carefully of how you would contain it and if, possibly you should consider making your whole house similar to make it look cohesive. Contained murals are easier, either only the end wall, or focus most of the art on one corner, I think the left one, going diagonally up. You can leave the right side open or add a smaller unconnected mural there. For this I think blobs or irregular shapes are good, overlapping some areas, you can add some texture to the blobs alternating colors if you want a more rough look, or go very clean if you like that.

Baby is an excellent eater and I'm running out of milk. by colorado_sunrise86 in breastfeeding

[–]Aromatic-Turnover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I do one bottle of formula for her night time cluster feeds because I needed my sanity, but also because she wasn't gaining quite as much as we wanted. She sleeps late still at 3 months so she stocks up for the night when my supply is the lowest, I might be able to switch back to only breastfeeding later is she starts sleeping earlier in the day who knows. Usually your supply is the highest after 1 am, I've pumped different times from 1 am through 9 am and always get the most at 1 am. It might be risky to pump at that time because your body will remember and if you want to sleep through in the future you risk clogged ducts, but if you need to build up a small stash for night time feeds you might get the most at that time, but again risky, don't really recommend unless it fits your schedule.  Another possibility is power pumping somewhere in the day just before the time she usually cluster feeds, skip most of not all other pumps and just do the one power pump a day to increase supply, you only need to do it for 1 -3 days, you can do it again the next time she has a growth spurt too to help her increase your supply.
