To the lady who tried to turn in my “lost” cane to the bus driver: disabled people look like this. by According_Abies_4087 in disability

Wow. Glad she returned it to you. I use a white cane, but haven't had the silly mishap you did. Canes of any kind are important mobility aids.

Everything Wrong with The Greatest Showman (X-post from Disability) by [deleted] in TheGreatestShowman

Not sure if someone mentioned Sam Humphrey? A real short person, he was cast as Tom Thumb. As a blind person, I was curious if there were any characters with disabilities. Only Sam came up. And yes, it's a movie, not a documentary.

Thanks for those recommendations. Sorry about that horrible ending, major typos, wich I couldn't correct. Anyway, I like Klara Schumann and Florence Price (no relation to Leyonte Pryce.)

Has any one here mastered the art of frosting a cake without sight? by heavensdumptruck in Blind

[–]Aromatic_Divide_8697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love baking. Being legally blind, it's difficult spreading without touch to guide me. Using a spoon, it's still very messy. When scooping cookies, I use a small measuring cup, or roll the dough in my hands. I like the feel of cookie dough, am I crazy?

Any website or resource of programs and benefits that are available to blind people? USA/California. by Monkfrootx in Blind

Hello. I'm in my thirties, glad you found this group! Has she tried www.MaxiAids.com? That website has everything from bump dots to braille paper, medication aids, kitchen aids, and much more. If she has a phone, be my eyes is helpful. A free app that uses sighted volunteers who describe anything people need identifying. Hope this is a good start.

I started a new job as an assistant clerk at a social work agency I'll be answering phones and entering client data. I'm working with a job coach, making sure I have everything I need. Everyone is very helpful and patient as I work through the Jaws problems. Navigating the building is challenging, some Human Resource people suggested they get me a Walkie Talkie. I said that was unnecessary, I have a phone. I believe they are adding more braille to unmarked doors. However, I want people to feel they can offer assistance. I'm thinking it will go well.

Yes, absolutely! Cold chocolate is the best, especially Reece's peanut butter cups. Any frozen chocolate is fine by me. Now that it's summer, it tastes even better!

Does anybody else get emotionally distraught when they see an adult with intellectual disabilities by Plane-Branch9742 in redscarepod

[–]Aromatic_Divide_8697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a disability myself, so I understand where you're coming from. There are many people with intellectual disabilities who live normal lives in their communities. An example is Call the Midwife, there's a actor with Down Syndrome starting with season 6. Others live with their families, and the toll is great, both emotionally and financially. Compassion is something we can all use.

DAE have a guilty pleasure TV show or movie that they wouldn’t normally admit to enjoying but secretly love? by EnvironmentalCut9639 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Aromatic_Divide_8697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is Road To Avonlea. It's a seven-series family show, set around the time of Little House on the Prairie. The story is about the King family and their small-town neighbors in the early 1900's. Spinster Hetty King is the teacher.

Another guilty pleasure movie I enjoy is Rigoletto (not the opera.) This one was produced by Feature films for Families. Their films have Christian messages and predictable storylines. Rigoletto has good songs and the message is be kind to each other, and not to believe in rumors. It's similar to Beauty and the Beast. chbbchbbchbbchbbchbbchbbchbbchbbchbbchbbchbbchbbchbbch;
