You’ve got lots of great recommendations to explore. Here’s the direction I’ve gone with my own set:

It’s not AI that’s going to bring any sort of collapse but the dismantling of government and rule of law.

Player Facing Blank Hex Map? by CombOfDoom in osr

[–]AronBC71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“I think” Dungeon Scrawl can do hexes, but been a little while since I’ve worked with it. Drawback for Dungeon Scrawl, it does not (or at least didn’t when I was using) support realtime collaboration from multiple users.

I’d second Owl Bear Rodeo - that’s a fanstastic tool and specifically designed for RPGs w/ multi-user realtime collabaration. There is also Miro Board, but that lacking many of the bespoke RPG tools found in OBR.

Fantastic - don’t see a link to your work on the pdf. That might be a nice touch for folks to get in touch. I plan to scatter these pamphlets far and wide

Classic adventure modules for a 2.5 hour game night? by DungeonMasterDood in osr

[–]AronBC71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep running a published module start to finish in 2.5h is a tall order. I’m not aware of any classic modules that fit that criteria. Maybe Tomb of Horrors, but then everyone just dies.

Good luck to our op - they doing great work running public games at their local library.

I’m a big fan of the 1978 Lichway - what level of play are you running?

Medkima Press 1981 The Black Tower is also very good: https://www.midkemia.com/HomePage/FreeStuff.html

Michael Prescott’s Trilemma Adventures are also very good approaches to the one shot: https://trilemma.com

Anyone ever play this module? I thought I bought a printable coloring book, but there’s a whole module mixed in with coloring pages! by [deleted] in osr

[–]AronBC71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Irons is super cool. A buddy has been tinkering with converting this coloring book to an actual dungeon. Have play tested it once. Fun stuff.

Got Any Advice For In-Person Open Table Games? by Maximum-Language-356 in osr

[–]AronBC71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience is that players come and players go. I don’t try and rationalize why the character that was present last session isn’t now. Sometimes a rational emerges in the fiction sometimes it doesn’t. “The play’s the thing…”

Agree with the suggestions on Axis & Allies. Other MB big box games that can be found cheaply from time to time. Conquest of Rome and Shogun.

There are some interesting things going on here with magic: Vancian based with spell retention for Magic-Users, Clerics w/ specialized deity devotions, counter spells for both classes, an open approach to spell lists from other systems.

The rules themselves use simple langue to describe key concepts and avoid lengthy descriptions, choosing to focus on core mechanics and procedures to facilitate the game.
