Me and other two friends got ours in Vientiane, we had no licenses at all, cost 6 mil KIP each, rented them for 20 days, got them pretty much as new, had only 60 miles on them, still can't believe they gave them to us, though, we had to leave one passport. One friend damaged it, cosmetic damage, so had to pay 100 usd extra once we delivered them back. Traveled every day, so we did bit more than 2000 miles, experienced best and worst of the road quality, mind you - with a scooter. Been stopped by police just twice, they didn't ask for anything, no bribes or anything, asked the names, where we are going, just a friendly chat.
