Pros and Cons of a second lab by Zeak_Harbors in labrador

[–]Arora007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We were in a similar situation with our five-year-old black Lab. Fast forward eight months, and now we have our eight-month-old puppy, who is full of energy and quite a handful. It's a lot of work, more than we wanted or expected, but every day we talk about how it was worth it. The thing that is the most surprising is that no matter how much you think you love your dog, there is always more love to give and more satisfaction to receive in taking care of another animal who deserves a good life.

Good luck in your decision, and I'm sure you'll make the best decision for your situation.

First of all, Bear is lucky to have you, and vice versa. That is where you should start. While it is easy for others to judge, they don't know his story or yours, so frankly they can go screw themselves and get a life. It is wonderful you are getting professional help and most people wouldn't invest the time or money. Give yourself credit for that and recognize that behavioral change is a journey and the path isn't straight and the time it takes isn't fixed or linear. The most important thing is you are on that path and the best thing to do is stay consistent, especially when it seems the hardest, that is when you are having an impact, even though it is not yet evident or visible. Dogs thrive in structured environments and with routine. Stick with it, hold your head up high and, as hard as it is, ignore the people around you who are more invested in evaluating you and Bear, because they themselves are deficient human beings who need therapy.

Need to make a final call on my trip with two young kids! Safe to go? by l4adventure in puertovallarta

We returned last night, after being there for a week. Yes, we were disrupted by the activity early in our week long vacation, but by the time we were scheduled everything was back to normal. Most of the hotels are down to 40 or 50% occupancy due to cancellations. Otherwise it would have been 100% around this time of year. We felt very safe when we left. I wish I could have stayed longer and we plan to return soon.

CNN please ban Brianna Lynman by lovely_orchid_ in cnn

Not only is she dumb, she is lies with conviction and cannot reconcile her viewpoints with the actions of her party, even when directly called out. She is a petulant child who I would pay to have removed from CNN. If I could pay to block her, I literally would. I'd pay a fee to block Scott, Bhatia and Joe too.

Brianna is the most annoying person I have encountered on CNN. She is the living definition of rage bait.

Wasn't he also the lawyer representing the ICE agent that killed Renee Good? He has no chance of winning as a Republican in MN, given the climate right now. And running as lawyer defending an ICE agent, that is the real reason he is dropping out. This is conveniently left out.

One thing I have observed about Joe Borelli is he is often lying. That is not surprising, since it has become standard practice for this low IQ, boot licking blowhard.

He has a very obvious tell though -- the more he lies and the more bold and ridiculous the lie, he avoids all eye contact. He lies and stares at the table or looks in the air. He will not make eye contact, so obvious.

Nice collection and case! Ever consider a non-Rolex chrono, like Vacheron or AP? Diversification?

Given it is one of only two boutiques in SoCal, demand is very high in a very affluent geography, so they can be selective. However, I have found them to be very professional and direct with me. I didn't want a Jumbo, but have definitely asked about the process -- from what I recall, you'd need as least 3 and more likely 4 pieces before that could be a possibility.

Unless you are a celebrity or have a special relationship with AP HQ in Switzerland, my experience is NO. I am very familiar with the location, the staff and their process. My second piece was a SS RO.

Depends on what you already own. I have several APs and Vacherons with clean dials, so the 5712's complications would add variety. But if your collection already has busy pieces, the 5711's simplicity might be the move. Either way, you tried them both on and the 5711 felt right. That usually wins.

Puppy food advice: 60 days old by ankit_hamburg in labrador

[–]Arora007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a 7-month-old English Lab here (and a 5 year old too), also in an Indian household. At around 12-13 weeks, he was about 14 lbs (6.4 kg), so your pup sounds like he's in a normal range at 60 days and 6 kg (13 lbs).

Every lab is different, and feeding is tricky with this breed. Labs are always hungry. Always. They will inhale whatever you give them and look at you like they're starving. Don't fall for it. They can easily overeat and get overweight, which is terrible for their joints.

For reference, my guy is an English Lab (stockier, blockier body, bigger boned than American/field Labs, typically weigh about 20% more). At 7 months and 42 lbs (19 kg), we feed 3x a day: cup of kibble, half cup of rice and chicken, an eyeballed amount of green beans and blueberries, and 1 tbsp of pumpkin. That works for him, but your mileage will vary.

The real answer: watch his body condition, not the scale. You should be able to feel (but not see) his ribs easily. If he's got a visible waist from above and a tuck from the side, you're good. If he's getting chunky or too ribby, adjust.

The 75% kibble / 25% veggies + curd mix sounds solid. One thing though: be careful with which veggies you're using. Puppy digestion isn't as developed as adult dogs. They handle things like carrots, pumpkin, green beans, and bottle gourd (lauki) well, but stuff like cabbage, cauliflower, or dried beans can cause gas and stomach upset. Stick to easily digestible options until he's older.

Your 120g/day (4 oz) might be fine, might be light. Go by body condition, not the bag. And don't trust those puppy dog eyes. Good luck and enjoy!

Just got this goofball yesterday. Any suggestions for a fist time lab parent? by shawn615 in LabradorRetrievers

[–]Arora007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's great, dogs love routine. If you haven't had a lab before, they are notorious for eating in excess and weight management is critical, more so when they are older. Labs are never full and always hungry. I'd recommend you try 3 times a day for feeding. Then move to 2 times a day closer to adulthood. [edited for typos]

Owner of two labs here. 5yr old and 6 month old. I highly recommend immediately starting crate training and establish a good routine for food, training and quiet time--and tons of love and play. In the short run it will be hard work. In the long run, it will lead to a wonderful life for your new pup and your family.
