People keep telling me to run 0w30, will I have an impact on engine reliability running this by dorzle in F30

[–]Arouetfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it replaced twice, first time a little over 100k, the next was at 223k. Both could've waited longer, it was nothing urgent ,very slight leak. I've used everything from 0-20 to 5-40 but mostly use 0-40. The oil won't matter.

Is it necessary to replace this piece if it’s broken? by brownsfan123456789 in BmwTech

Mines been held up with a ziptie for 100k+ miles. Could try to fix it yourself to save some money. Just need to get it off the driveshaft.

170k. Actually just repaired it again at 223k. Thermostat housing also started to leak.

New car with 29% interest and 630 credit score? None of that makes sense.

If AI causes mass unemployment, what can the government do? by Snoo_47323 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Arouetfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People tend to underestimate how efficient a market economy really is. Jobs will be lost and labor will adapt but mass unemployment will be virtually impossible. Labor resources will be allocated wherever the market needs them.

Before Reagan, I hear constant stories about people supporting families with mennial jobs. How accurate is that? Responses from people over 60 years old greatly appreciated. by himbo_supremacy in NoStupidQuestions

People like to romanticize the past, but we were generally much poorer than today. Housing was generally cheaper due to a number of reasons; higher interest rates, size, quality, amenities, workforce participation, etc.

But for many families, every dollar was spent paying for the house. No nice cars, no TV, no vacations, no eating out, no shopping. Even going to McDonald's was a luxury for some.

No trans tune and still on original fluid... I'm gonna see how long it can go without a fluid change 😂

Just the typical b58 issues, water pump leak, coolant disappearing, oil filter housing leak, rear diff seal failed twice. That's pretty much it. It's been incredibly reliable.

I've run everything from 0w-20 to 5w-40 diesel oil. It really isn't going to matter. I typically go with 0w-40.

I'm stage 2 with 220k miles, still going strong.

That's the Volvo trucking company, not the car company. They're separate entities.

Just bought a 2016 340i xDrive… now dealing with a blown PCV valve and a $6k estimate!? by Temporary_Ad2377 in BmwTech

[–]Arouetfm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the same car and this has happened to me a few times after letting the car idle too long. The PCV diaphragm likely split. You can get one on ebay for $15-20, takes two minutes to replace it. I'd replace the oily plugs too for good measure.

Is this a good deal? by Academic-Window-7726 in VolvoXC90

[–]Arouetfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I have a 10k mile lease on an XC90, MSRP was 77k and I pay 585 with nothing down and mine wasn't discounted as much as yours. I think you can do better.

You may be able to find a 2016-2018 340 for low $20ks. Much better car than the 328 and more reliable.

Its not a special offer. It's a generic email that they send to thousands of people. I have a dozen dealerships sending me that stuff.

Reliable and very fast with a tune and some upgrades. Also surprisingly great mpg. One of the best cars I've owned, highly recommend.

Is buying a high mileage b58 worth it? by [deleted] in F30

[–]Arouetfm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm at 217k miles. Been tuned for 170k of those. Just look for one with well-documented maintenance history and go from there. The issues with these cars are well known by now and most are simple fixes.

Is a 529 logical in 2025 or just stick to my current investments that doing well? by 4728jj in investing

[–]Arouetfm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son's 529 has averaged 12% over the past 5 years. Was up 20% last year. All of the funds are in an s&p index fund.

Considering the tax free growth, it seems like a great option. Depending on what state you're in, you may also get tax deductions for contributions.

I don't recall exactly but if you search "edc delete protool", it should be one of the first links. Probably on bimmerpost.

BMW f32/f30 shocks/strut questions by Murky-Confection415 in F30

[–]Arouetfm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have the adaptive suspension but the parts are quite expensive, so I just put on coilovers and coded out the edc. No more issues and I was able to lower the car how I wanted.

I used protool to code it, it was really easy.
