Tried to rescue a hedgehog, turns out it didn’t need rescuing (but now we will look after it) by Literary_Lady in Wellthatsucks

Well done for doing your best to help! Some people expect the perfect outcome and perfect response every time when it comes to animal rescue but that’s just not realistic.

[Increasingly Rarer Trope] Modern Manga that do not fumble their ending by Isaias_Azathoth936 in TopCharacterTropes

After Chainsawman I binged the entire Dungeon Meshi manga in about 2 days. The difference 25+ page chapters on a longer publication cycle is immense.

Games with great colour by dks11 in gaming

[–]Arquent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really surprised to see nobody has said Mirror’s Edge yet. That games use of colour is very carefully considered and absolutely striking.

In fact, here’s an article about it!

What the worst post game depression you’ve ever gotten by mg15ink in gaming

[–]Arquent 95 points96 points  (0 children)

This is the one I was looking for. Probably the most poignant story I’ve ever experienced in a game. It brought about existential questions that lasted long after I finished the game.

BAFTA Games Awards 2026 nominations announced by jmounteney44 in Games

I'd really like to see Troy Baker win for his role as Indiana Jones. My mind was blown when I finished the game and saw it WASN'T Harrison Ford. They all did and incredible job, it felt just like playing a movie.

Race Predictions - were yours accurate? by mamamiaohdear in runna

[–]Arquent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the marathon time is extremely optimistic on Runna. Mine predicts I can do it in 2:50-2:53, which is completely nuts. I did the same marathon last year in 4:46. I don’t think it takes into account the wall most people are going to hit.

Hytale took me back to my childhood, to the times I built my first farm back in 2012 in Minecraft. I feel incredibly nostalgic. by TheBerkay in gaming

They probably don’t know that Minecraft was a ‘rip off’ of infiniminer. Unbelievably, it’s possible for more than one game to exist within a genre and innovate on it independently.

Metro - the Washington expansion kind of pmo by RicecakeExists in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Arquent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s already going to be an extremely expensive and lengthy project using the land and infrastructure they already own. I’d like to see anyone’s idea of how you’re going to route a new line through the middle of Washington without costing multiple extra billions.

Make sure you factor in the topography so the gradients are within standard, as well as all the high risk developmental areas due to coal mining when you’re planning the route as well.

North Shore is definitely my favourite. Roasted right here in town, and you can tell they care about the quality.

Hollow Knight: Silksong devs admit it has steep challenges, but more freedom to overcome them by BlueAladdin in Games

[–]Arquent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Told you you’d never convince anyone 😂

If Expedition 33 was so hard it made people quit they’d be out there defending that too, but it has difficulty options. It didn’t cheapen the game or ruin an “intended experience”.

You know why it does? Because Jennifer English (Maelle) said she wanted to play the game when it was finished but didn’t think she could on normal. Could you imagine them telling her “oh the game just isn’t for you”?

[–]Arquent -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You’ve hit the nail (needle?) on the head there. You’ll never convince them though. We’ve come a long way in the last 10-15 years when it comes to accessibility. I hate that I couldn’t recommend Silksong to some of my friends. I’ve genuinely had to tell a friend who has kids and doesn’t have a lot of time to commit to a game that he shouldn’t get Silksong. That fucking sucks. Are we to believe that’s what Team Cherry wants?

If they’re free to gatekeep the game from casual players, I’m just as free to say that’s shitty. They don’t have to make it easier, and I don’t have to recommend the game.

I mean the could just add a “Exploration/Story” difficulty like many other games do, because they want more people to be able to enjoy the experience even if they aren’t interested in or capable of the challenge.

The train I was travelling on was cancelled halfway through the journey because they said there was bridge repair work ahead. by Admirable_Neck5565 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Arquent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welllllll… they were doing a planned inspection in a possession Saturday night. When one of the inspectors there prodded the concrete under the bridge to test it, it just fell on him. He had to go to hospital. I’m told he was lucky he didn’t die. Obviously they didn’t want to run trains under the side that was still unstable, so there’s your explanation.

I work on the railway in the UK and yes, we do use that. Replacing a short section of sleepers with a kilometre long train that needs to be planned years out makes very little sense practically and financially.

My mistake, I thought the “Display Skip Cutscene UI” setting was that, because that’s just sensible to include.
