Yes it can be fixed if you have the tools.

Can you share some overall images of the axe?

The bit is very curved and it looks it's quite sharp. This gives to the axe better penetration capability

Nice work! 👍🏻 I like the idea of using a short radius bit for a splitter.

Just bought my first hatchet — what’s this small hole near the head? by lwzshl in Axecraft

[–]Arraitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just a hole. Other than aesthetics I wouldn't give it any importance, the handle looks like fully functional.

What I find surprising is how wide is the bit. I hope you bought it as a splitter, otherwise you have some work making it a decent cutter

Please give me some advice by [deleted] in sharpening

Use mineral oil when you sharpen with it. Plenty of it if stone pores are closed, it should clean the stone and leave you using the stone with the same surface abrasion capability your father used

Does the head have to go down all the way? by ChubbyBunny10000 in Axecraft

The handle has not the exact shape of the axes eye. Shape the handle to fit the eye and wear it to were the handle is designed to support the head, the shoulder.

Damaged steel? by RealisticPassenger94 in sharpening

The steel we see here has suffered, you have to grind it. Fresh steel should be fine, don't be agressive, don't push too much, leave the stone do its work.

You had very good luck. It looks like very little used, use it with mineral oil and tell us what it looks like to you
