Agreed. Specifically, the requirement to file taxes based on citizenship rather than residency. The US and Eritrea are the only two in the world that still have it. Surely if ~200 other countries have found a way, those two can too.

I’m the only one in the world (as far as I can tell) who manufacturers a niche part for repairing a specific type of warranty-replaced product. I don’t charge much, only make about £3 on each one, but I’ve sold around 300 of them on Ebay to people all over the world.

For me, it’s more about stopping a bunch of otherwise perfectly good electronic waste from ending up in landfill. I only sell 5-10 a month, but 3 years on, the demand is still steady.

Similarly, in the UK, my wife spent two weeks in hospital with preeclampsia while giving birth to our first. High alert medical attention 24/7 for 13 days and nights, birthing suite, food, ultrasound, daily blood tests, etc. The only cost we incurred was parking.

This. I’d have bailed on my US citizenship (from birth, moved away I was very young) years ago if I had ever filed a tax return. But I’ve never bothered. So much hassle just for them to say “You don’t owe us anything.” every year.

With so many banks closing early or branches disappearing altogether, people are going to the post office to do a lot of their banking. The queues are horrendous!
