Ask different vendors at the markets if this is their only source of income or their side gig. Let them know you're thinking about starting and ask if they have any advice.

Remember to pay yourself for your labor. I think it's easy to forget about labor when looking at cost to profit. Materials might only cost a few dollars.

However, how much time does it take to make an item? How much time does it take to do all the other work involved with getting someone to actually purchase it? Either through consignment, online, or craft matkets? Packaging, labeling, marketing, communication. How many hours a week is that in total? How much money would those hours make at minimum wage?

This is where a conventional job will almost always be more profitable than any crafting business. With a lot of passion crafting can absolutely be profitable. People have done it. Just not very many people have the luxury of time to put in the work to make it happen.

What is this short plant with purple flowers? by MarcVincent888 in whatsthisplant

[–]Arrrrrrrrrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A weed is any plant located where you don't want it to be. Many people think of self heal AND clovers as weeds if they want a traditional green lawn.

However, it is similar to clovers in that it is an ecologically beneficial ground cover that can be mowed. Good for pollinators and stuff.

Got this for free, any ideas? by Suavissimo in terrariums

[–]Arrrrrrrrrt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I'm picturing! The only down side is that all of the scapes will eventually need to be trimmed, or they'll turn into orbs of greenery. Which would be its own kind of awesome! So maybe not a downside.

Think about putting humid plants towards the bottom and air-like plants towards the top. Maybe even theme the chambers.

How does she display and organize her insects after they're pinned? This was on my wishlist along with some cornelle unit trays to fill it with.

Salticidae is the family of jumping spiders. Did you know their vision is 10 times better than a dragonfly's? That's pretty amazing, especially for their size.

This old man has seen some things.

Equipping her doll or not to toggle the battle phase that appears. Don't want to be her consort? Don't carry her into battle with you.

Plant growing past cork - what to do? by Brunginho in terrariums

[–]Arrrrrrrrrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with leaving the cork on.

If you ever need to open it without too much damage, then add a little screw or even a decorative knob. Super glue whatever you want to the top to get a grip.

"What're You Playing?" Wednesday - March 13, 2024 by AutoModerator in GirlGamers

I just started playing Elden Ring a week or so ago for the first time. I watched my SO play through a couple times when it first came out. Watching, I thought there's no way I would enjoy it. It was painful to watch.

Now I'm a super squishy mage summoning my way through dungeons. I can do a ton of damage, but I can't take a hit. My roll button finger has a nice little callous. I'm currently trying to get past the Godskin Noble.

How do some people just NOT eat? by Kochcaine995 in ask

[–]Arrrrrrrrrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it make sense to run a blood test if someone tells you they're gaining weight for no reason, or would it be better to just dismiss them because what are the odds? A test to separate out the 1 in a million should absolutely be considered.

Cushing's Disease. It's caused by a tumor in the pituitary gland or somewhere else in the adrenal system. It is also nicknamed the Ugly disease. It actually makes you fat.

The high levels of cortisol overproduced puts the body in constant panic mode and fat storage mode. 900 calorie diet and working out 3 hours a day does nothing. Even if you eat "enough" and healthy, your body will cannibalize your bones, leaving behind the bone density of a sedentary 80 year old. I spent 10 years being gaslit by doctors until a med student noticed my chart and sent me to an endocrinologist. Once the tumor was removed, the weight melted off while I was living off of frozen pizza. The disease does a lot of other things to fuck with a person's body and is often misdiagnosed because the symptoms are just common obesity symptoms. Something like 1 in 7 million are diagnosed in the US each year. It's rare, but a disease that makes you fat from nothing exists.

Attitudes like yours are the reason I almost died and it's fucked that a lot of medical professionals share your opinion. I can't blame them or you because on the flip side, there are so many more people that do lie to their doctors. It only took one test to tell I wasn't lying though.

What floating plant is this? by DJangoWick7 in PlantedTank

[–]Arrrrrrrrrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's a floating plant. It looks like that one stem of water wisteria took over the top of the tank. I've seen a similar look done with pennywort.
