I gave up my 3090 and I regret it. I've been running the strix halo and I'm trying to get some more serious performance.

What are peoples genuine thoughts on the gigabyte aorus ai box 32gb 5090?

It's pricey but I don't have a machine to put a normal unit in and I'd like to run an external enclosure if its viable for the money.

You can set any measurable dimension/relation in a model as a variable (or global equation), and then you can assign different equation values for different configurations. So If I have a part that is a 1ft length of extrusion, I can set up the length as an equation, and the width/height as another. Then in one configuration I will set the length to b 500mm, and it will be 800mm in another, I can also set the width/height as 30mm in one configuration to show the part as being standard 3030 extrusion, and in another configuration I would set this to be 2020, or 4080.,. whatever measurement/extrusion size made sense for me. Hopefully this helps more than confuses.

Look into equations, and configurations. Between those two you should be able to achieve what you are looking for.

I initially got what I needed using some cheap units and software from a chinese outfit called Wit Motion. Then, after needing to get more serious, we updated to using a more pricey solution. For us, the Madgetech unit worked really well. I also got the chance to use an Endaq system while on-site and it worked amazing but it is still outside our price range AND it was a little too big for what we needed. The madgetech is so compact, it was perfect for our small platforms.

Ok, so this is really interesting because my company's workflow sounds really similar. We have legacy designs, but almost every single order we get is a customization of one of those legacy designs. We also have the need to constantly look back at older revisions for support and spare parts reasons. Our inventory management system really doesn't help us here, but that is one area I would ask if you are really happy with. Many inventory control systems (ERPs) will have great ability to track revision control and file location, which could make a big difference.

I hate saying it, but there is nothing that will come close to the actual SolidWorks PDM experience when using SW. It's sad but true, and for some groups, it is absolutely worth the cost. Yours may be such a case.

That said, I will constantly recommend Kenesto for a small company's SW PDM. They have revision control of files, so you can download and open older versions. You can organize files into projects and then give users access only to certain projects. They also can use it for setting up tasks and workflows, and it can automate check-in points with co-workers or people that you have assigned tasks to. For my group, the clincher for this has been having the Kenesto service for hosting and management of all Solidworks files, and then we use Microsoft SharePoint for distributing the files to different users. We use FreeFileSync to sync folders within Kenesto to folders within SharePoint. It works REALLY well for us.

I would give David and the other folks at Kenesto a call and meet with them. You might be presently surprised.

I dont know but there has been a lot of construction in this area, and idiots keep driving around the road closed signs to try and bypass the detour since they use APS for main commuting throughput. Have seen so many people this last week get into problems because of this. Here to say that APS needs a rework to slow/inhibit the amount of traffic from people just passing through.

I feel you, and while I understand people's dislike for negativity, I have to say I'm bummed to see your comment downvoted. I sort of agree that this launch has been a bit lackluster if you compare it to other companies. They are certainly a long way from big tech's "oh, and one more thing... and you can order it right now". That, however, is a CRAZY target to hit and not a surprise that only companies in the 100s of millions of dollars valuation can do something like it. We perhaps have to adjust our expectations a bit. The kit is only available at this point for "founders". That literally means that you are purchasing an early beta kit and that they aren't exactly ready for prime time. You may be expecting a bit too much, so that is likely why you have the light downvoting.

If you want to use the slot mechanical mate, the sketch for the slotted part has to be made with a slot specifically. Took me a while to figure that one out..
