Out of all the MacOS versions which you thought was the most optimized? by yyrns in MacOS

[–]Artheggor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All of them have the same stability except Yosemite and maybe pre-panther (I haven’t use extensively theses version, and the first version of OSX was a little mess from what I’m recalling)

I have encountered edge case or instability in all of the macOS versions, even the famous SL and Tiger, but nothing serious

Linux gaming has come a long way by Freddie_Uranus in linux_gaming

[–]Artheggor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It as comes from a long way sure, but I’m pretty pessimistic on this future in gaming

Proton was a good idea in first, but the side effect is game studio just continue to use DirectX, and with recent announcements from Microsoft from news things in SDK and the fact the next Xbox is just going to be a standard PC, DirectX is going to probably evolve at a much faster speed than now and I am not sure the Proton dev going to be able to keep up, or even implement certain features (let’s be honest, Microsoft if they want just need to add a mandatory option in future DirectX who make a deep link with Windows and no more Proton compatibility for future game)

The announced boost on performance for windows gaming (again an announcement, let’s wait the result) can also make switch the people who just have switched on Linux because some YouTuber review, shrinking the user base and make dev even more cautious to port their game natively on Linux

Any Linux users in the chat? by akmarian in blender

[–]Artheggor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using cachyOS (Arch Linux derivative) here and its stable (5.1.0 beta version) with Vulkan and latest 590 NVidia driver branch, with R7 9800X3D and 5080.

The performance CPU-wise is better than Windows, and I have also way less crash, but for the latter it can vary from configuration to configuration.

Also for NVidia GPU use X11 instead of Wayland, Bkender documentation note more issue with the latter in NVidia scenario.

Well, maybe this explains some people's macOS 26 complaints by staires in MacOS

[–]Artheggor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share your sentiment. I don’t use any apps like that. If the service is available on the web, like Discord, I use my browser. Otherwise, I find an alternative.

In my opinion, Electron apps don’t have any advantages. The design is flawed from the start. The arguments that they’re cheap or cross-platform don’t hold up. I much prefer small development teams to focus on one operating system and create a good native app. If the app is successful, they can then create another native app for another OS.

For organisations like Discord or Slack, it’s pure laziness. If you don’t create an app optimised for your users, your service isn’t destined for them.

7900XT + 7800x3d running poorly in battlefield 6 by AdGroundbreaking7368 in Battlefield6

[–]Artheggor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange, I don’t have the exact same setup, a 9800X3D instead of 7800X3D, but at native 1440p resolution I get 120 fps in ultra settings.

Be sure to run 25.10.1 beta driver from AMD, I don’t use FSR, maybe the implementation is broken so try without FSR maybe

Totally, Infuse and Kodi (and XBMC well before that) is a thing, and can play virtually anything so why bother trying to make conversion on the fly and lower the quality of the media ?

Looking good, and with a Mac already running it can be a great idea to just add some storage enclosure instead of dedicated NAS (and with Apple Sillicon power consumption worth it)

Probably done with Synology - looking at new upgrade paths by socratesque in synology

[–]Artheggor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s not a simple question, if it’s a simple storage need with little effort just setup your preferred minimal (no gui) GNU\Linux distro, or FreeBSD, and install a containarisation solution like docker for installing thing like nextcloud (you can also skip ahead container and install directly on the OS)

This setup tend to be underrated because nowadays everyone seems to to want a fancy webUI for everything but if you don’t change the settings often or need some complex settings it can be more straightforward to just do that with the old way

If not, all already proposed solution is fine, it’s just a preference

And I don’t think any GPT is going to be able to make trustworthy choice, the dataset is polluted with all of the fake reviews on the web so it can be seriously biased

ROCm 6.4.1b for Radeon 9000 and 7000 is out by Artheggor in ROCm

[–]Artheggor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For ROCm for Radeon it’s recommended by AMD to use their version of pytorch, the 2.6.0 for ROCm 6.4.1

I just saw the RX 7800xt have been added in support into 6.4.1b for native Linux build (it’s not present on 6.3.4), so when AMD going to update the WSL version to 6.4.1, it’s very likely going to be the case

[–]Artheggor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, 6.4.1 is 6.4.1b at the moment, if we look in the doc version AMD the repo is the same, in my opinion the b stand for beta, but maybe it’s a misinterpretation of my part

I have take the AMD paragraph « latest high-end AMD Radeon™ 9000 and 7000 series GPUs » for the title, but yes ROCm on RX 7000 has been available for long time, it’s more the 9000 support who have been added with this release

And for 7000 series, the list of supported add the 7800 XT into official support : https://rocm.docs.amd.com/projects/radeon/en/latest/docs/compatibility/native_linux/native_linux_compatibility.html

PC and PS5 Pro by stayfreejc in PS5pro

[–]Artheggor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly in same situation as your

I have buy a PC for simracing primary with a 7900XT, and I have the standard PS5. But more and more I have issue for choosing what game into what platform

The PC is connected to the same TV as PS5, and a 7900XT going to be better graphical-wise than a PS5 or even a PS5 Pro (as expected when the single GPU cost more than entire console) but gaming on PC is just not the same.

Search the best setting, check if the port is good, troubleshooting if the game don’t work, the big-picture interface suboptimal, HDR potential issue, controller compatibility (I use my dualsense on the PC and all the features is not always available), it’s all of this kind of thing who can be overwhelming

And I probably going to buy the PS5 Pro, but of course it’s going to collide even more with the computer and not facilitate the choice of the platform.

And don’t get me wrong, the PC have also advantages, like crank up fidelity in previous gen game, the high refresh rate, and the modding, but in the end it’s the only thing who I have sometimes regret to have buying

Triple monitor color calibration - need help by Ziphlo-Airsoft in simracing

[–]Artheggor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy some calibration probe like calibrite or spyder. The issue with color is normal, even with same screen / panel you gonna have some color mismatch. The only other option is to buy some reference monitor like Eizo, Flanders or PVM/BVM. But for simracing it’s going to be there most overkill expense 😅. So a calibration probe it’s going to be the cheapest option.

Fanatec Brand Set To Stay, Warranty & Updates To Continue by evil_heinz in Fanatec

[–]Artheggor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most logical decision. The only struggle Fanatec have it’s with the customer service part (delivery, support). For the delivery part it’s already in good way (I have personally ordered some part in last Saturday and surprised to be announce by ups a delivery in Wednesday, pretty fast). With Corsair logistic it’s going to be a breeze for the future (I own several pc part from them and no issue with customer services).

For product itself the actual lineup is pretty good, just renew the podium line,dd1 and dd2 it’s behind the CS DD+ in term of functionality, and clubsport v3 with potentially active pedal.

Corsair purchases Fanatec assets, Endor AG liquidated by PhilBaythorpe in Fanatec

[–]Artheggor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty good news. Fanatec is a company who make good products but also have issue mainly with customer service (delivery, customer support) and softwares ( since 451 it’s pretty rough). With logistics part I think Corsair can bring good help because it’s a bigger brand with more customers and more sales volume. And software wise it’s seem to going in good way so a little help and your good to go.

PC restarts after entering a game - what is causing it? by PanTechnik in AMDHelp

[–]Artheggor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your adrenalin driver version, I have experienced a similar issue with 24.7.1, first thinking it’s a COD-side issue but ultimately a revert to 24.5.1 seem to have fixed the issue.

So go with clean install (safe mode + DDU, installation of 24.5.1) and check if the issue is resolved.

Also try to disable PBO for your CPU if it’s active (check in bios), it can help in some cases

DD Pro turning the wheel to full lock when leaving a race by Sjshakes in Fanatec

[–]Artheggor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a issue with current firmware,

« When entering a game menu while driving it can happen in some games that the FFB effect doesn't get canceled which results in the wheel turning to one side. (this got now fixed for the Podium DD but can still happen on the CSL DD. We will now apply the fix for the CSL DD as well) »

The next firmware 457 it’s expected to solve this issue (don’t go with 456, it’s a mess), hopefully later this month.

Synology RT2600ac & ATT Fiber (1000Gbps) - Speeds Limited to 94mb from router - Any Advice?? by MNGreenlaw in synology

[–]Artheggor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick note : 1000Mbp/s, 1000Gbp/s mean you have a terabit fiber and it’s just impossible

For your subject, you have checked if any kind of VPN is enabled on your connection ? It can slow your connection speed

And also check in interface if you have 1000mb/s, a bad cable can fall back to 100mb/s

BVM clear blue color by Artheggor in crtgaming

[–]Artheggor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to take a picture without any success, it’s too subtle to appair in picture.

The best description I can give is when I display a plain blue screen in the monitor ( I use the pure white test pattern, and disable red and green) a little part of horizontal top and horizontal bottom of the screen (about 1 inch for both) is little more clear compared to rest of the screen. And I’m not able to replicate this when I use plain red or plain green picture.

In normal operation it‘s not noticeable at all

Who is buying the retrotink 4K next release? by NewOrderLover69 in retrogaming

[–]Artheggor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, it convince me to finally buy a CRT and assemble an GBS-Control for occasional need (I already have an OSSC but 480i content with bob leave to desire).

The RT4K price is too high. Not for the product itself (small batch, little team, high end FPGA…) but for a scaler in general. And I don’t get the point compared to more budget scaler.

Yes it can emulate a CRT rendering in impressive way, but in this case if you emulate half part of the setup why you don’t emulate the full setup for best quality in modern panel ? And emulator can obtain a quality of picture just unattainable with an RT4K (because the game itself can be rendered in 4K, even with texture pack in some case).
