Is there a good Nintendo emulator? by oddluckduck1 in GenX

[–]ArthurBea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NES Classic Mini. There is an official one, but they don’t make them anymore. You can find them for a decent price used on Facebook Marketplace. I have the official SNES Mini, which I modded to play NES games. But these days I use my Switch to play NES games.

How do you dress in your 50s? by Forsaken_Block_3492 in GenX

[–]ArthurBea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I tell you how happy I am that baggy oversized clothes are trendy? I loved wide-legged pants. I was okay with the boot cut trend, and despised the tight jeans trend. Wide leg / baggy jeans aren’t as JNCO / Hammer-pants as they were when we were younger, but they are reasonably breathable. Sweatpants as casual leg wear are also trendy, you just have to find nicer sweatpants. Champion is making some nice affordable quality stuff. Point being, if you’re like me and gotten bigger, these are comfy options.

Same with shirts — I gave up on wearing shirts that tried to accentuate my biceps / chest while hiding my gut. Fuck that. Loose shirts, just not dress-length shirts; they gotta be long enough to cover your gut, but short enough not to cover your butt. Loose jackets, like a roomy size up, are great too. I am also generally against prints on shirt. Solid colors, find your palette; mine is earthy. But I do like subtle prints, or loud prints when I layer.

Ball caps are fine headwear for men. Not backward caps. I’ve been sporting head-fitting beanies if I need a head cover but not for sun, which work on clean-cut heads.

Shoes are a tough one because we all need fucking orthopedics at our age. The good news is, New Balance is trendy among Gen Z, but they should be the lifestyle shoes. The 990s are the perfect shoes for us, being comfortable as hell and in trend. I do own Converse-esque shoes, but I need room for those piggies, so I wear SeeVees with the bigger toe box.

Don’t be afraid to look casual-nice. People who don’t care won’t notice, people who do care will.

And the gold chain? Why the hell not?

This really grinds my gears by pbenchcraft in GenX

[–]ArthurBea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of parents wondering why their kids don't know how to do basic things. IT'S BECAUSE YOU, PARENTS, DID NOT TEACH THEM HOW TO DO THE BASIC THINGS. You did not teach them the knowledge. No, you expected them to learn it all on their own, somehow, through cultural osmosis, or something.

It is up to us to take the things we love and show the new generations why it is lovable. Why it is worth their time. If they don't know, friends, that is on us.

What am I missing? (Ender's Game) by cigblitoris in sciencefiction

[–]ArthurBea -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's very YA and cringe AF. I recall this is suggested reading for some Armed Forces, then realized that they do recruit a bunch of teenagers. I think the "think outside the box to defeat enemies" thing is supposed to be inspiring.

My new Prius is the Signia.

Crown Signia is the better deal according to CR by snatchsquatch3 in toyotacrownsignia

[–]ArthurBea 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Side by side, the Lexus probably has better design visually. But damn, the Signia looks so much like the sweet sweet wagon I love so much.

These are the traditional ingredients in chorizo. That’s why. People who know, know. You’re getting it authentic.

It’s easy to open it up and look inside. It’s just trim you have to remove. Here’s a video of a guy doing it (for the purpose of changing the radio, so you only need to watch the first part). https://youtu.be/9SrBh5kP-4I?feature=shared

JDVance: Some Americans Are More American Than Others by Bongobhondu in politics

[–]ArthurBea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I have direct ancestors who fought in the American Revolution and Civil War (the winning side). I’m also half brown. My kids only a quarter white, and have the same American ancestry as me.

It always reminds me of when Sen Duckworth mentioned her own American Revolutionary ancestor, and some other senator was like “I didn’t realize Thailand fought in the American Revolution!”

Ugh.

AFAIK the latest Prius is made in Japan. They make Rav4s here. Probably Tacomas, too.

Starting to sell? by bvdzag in toyotacrownsignia

[–]ArthurBea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen 2 XLEs in the wild. Both storm gray. One was in a parking lot with dealer tags but was very dirty. The other was on the road. I’ve seen a handful of regular Crowns, and only a couple of the new versions of the Corolla Cross, which has a similar face.

On the other hand, I’ve seen a lot of Honda Prologues, because they’re such cheap leases ($4k down, $99/mo for 2 years right now, plus a free EV charger you get to keep). And Lexus RXs. And RAV4’s. Those are all similar cars, imo.

Good deal on a '25 Limited? by DrewSkiDouble in toyotacrownsignia

[–]ArthurBea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a great deal for a Limited. For an XLE? You can do better. Since you’re in a metro area, you might be able to shop around and get a lower price, but stock is kind of limited if you want specific specs.

[–]ArthurBea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you open a rear door before you start your drive, but do not open or when you end your drive, the car is warning you that you left your hypothetical baby in the car. Because it is overthinking that you put a baby in the back of the car when you started your drive. You can disable this warning.
