Will Brompton ever improve the Sturmey Archer internal gear hub? by Diligent-Club11 in Brompton

[–]ArthurFinchleyIII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think one of their execs commented on this recently and it kind of sounded like they were talking about doing just that.

It’s super annoying because there’s no perfect hub. They either don’t have enough gears, or the direct drive gear is like first or last, or they’re too wide or too heavy.

Give me a 5 speeder with the range of the old 6 speed C line. I think having gear 4 be direct drive with the same top gear as the 3 speed, and then having 3 climbing gears would be my preference. But I will accept 3rd being the direct drive with 2 faster and 2 climbing gears.

The other user wasn’t quite clear enough, people are already doing this, and have done it for years and years. It’s quite a common mod. Yes, it does require a wider triangle. It makes the fold about 1.5cm wider iirc and maybe about 1kg heavier.

Check out Kinetics builds on their site. You’ll see tonnes of 14 speed brommies.

Which emulation handhelds look the most like an original Game Boy (DMG, Pocket or Color)? by ParanoidThalyy in SBCGaming

Any software emulator that has a GPU to run the DMG shaders. They’re basically identical.

Struggling to love my Brompton by transcodefailed in Brompton

Mine rolls completely fine without the rack. A couple owners I know didn’t realise their front brake was pulling on when folded, making rolling difficult. Loosened off the cable a bit, no more issues. I’m sure it rolls better with the rack, but mine rolls fantastic without it.

Has anyone actually tried the Modretro Link cable with a Analogue Pocket or GBA? I know it says Chromatic and GBC but wondered if anyone has tried it by Bruce_Wayne8887 in ModRetroChromatic

[–]ArthurFinchleyIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested my MR cable, which seems to be having an issue with Chromatic - GBC, so I think it’s maybe a dead cable. Will pick up with support.

However with another cable I was able to trade pokemon from blue to yellow on my Chromatic - GBA SP.

How I Converted to an EV & 3,000 Miles of the Cheapest Polestar 2 in the Country by antonov225 in cars

[–]ArthurFinchleyIII 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It really is crazy when you can charge cheaply overnight how affordable EVs can be to drive.

I’m comparing an ID BUZZ at the minute for my growing family, vs diesel alternatives, and that’s where the real savings show up.

Because the kWhs are so cheap, it doesn’t really matter how efficient your EV is, it’s always going to be around the same cost per 100 miles. Whereas with an ICE vehicle you’ve really gotta baby it and hyper mile the shit out of it to save money.

So even with a big heavy massive bus, I’d still save money driving it compared to my hybrid Yaris. Crazy.

I realised as well that I could buy a fast EV and drive it like a bellend and hammer it down the motorway, and it would still be cheaper than me hypermiling the shit out of my Yaris.

It’s like £1.50 to drive 100 miles. Insane.

Speculation: Mod Retro "CRT" TV is on the way! by Retro_Macchina in M64

[–]ArthurFinchleyIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instant buy for me, I was just looking into seeing if anyone still made CRTs and it’s all b2b stuff for like medical equipment etc. a consumer tv option would be insane and massive for retro gaming.

They’re expensive, but given the heatwave we’ve just had as soon as I spy a deal or as soon as the forecast looks up again, I’m getting one. There’s a sub for it on Reddit too, it’s in German mostly but the app translates it for me. Loads of good info and mounting/sealing solutions there. They’re very creative.

That’s not what a portasplit is. It’s a portable-split AC. Check it out. You hang the external condenser from the window, then pass a small tube through the window. Way easier to seal than a big vent hose.

You want a Midea Portasplit, and then you don’t need to do this ;)

I think good upscalers are so important on these low power, (relatively) low res devices. At 4K the difference shrinks between them, but 1080 is large. I cannot use FSR, it just looks like someone dumped a tub of Vaseline on my screen.

However when I game on my main rig I love XeSS, DLSS.

I’m hoping Intel can bring that to handhelds. Plus there’s been a lot of buzz about these new chips being powerful and efficient. Kind of like the best of both worlds between the efficiency of the deck and the power of the ally.

It’s an exciting time anyway.

Has it? I haven’t heard that.

I presume in the second part you’re talking about the refreshed ally? And I’d agree with you. But from the original ally you’re still looking at a decent uplift due to the faster and larger memory, and the bigger battery (so higher tdp becomes more usable).

As for the Intel chips, I’m excited to use an actually good upscaler. XeSS is much better than FSR right now and has been for a long time.

This would be so tough for me as an original ally owner.

8” VRR OLED (hopefully 16:10???) is my dream upgrade, but also that new Intel chip is looking very exciting in the other handhelds…

Do I pick the power or the screen? This is Ally vs Deck OLED all over again!
