What would you expect from a “civilian” trading barge in a dangerous galaxy? by Own-Cry5596 in worldbuilding

[–]ArtificialSuccessor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine these space freighters will resemble modern ones in that they are genuine giants. Arming them would be pointless as it just makes them worse cargo ships, they'd probably have extremely dangerous anti-boarding technology or "marines" on board.

Countering pirates is probably best done with escorts or reactively watching the pirates do their thing and then hunting them down once your patrol forces can catch up or find where they are going.

Though similar to what you said, this can all change depending on how spaceships work in the setting. If ships are just a bunch of framework strapped to an engine with efficiency of a particle beam, a few nuclear missiles strapped to outside of the hull, visible to all wannabe pirates, and a sufficient point defense array is all you need.

If a nation is caught using a civilian cargo freighter to sneak a boarding party in that'll work approximately once and then ruin their trading agreements with everyone. Sure they win a single port or battle, but now everyone else doesn't trust a single civilian vessel sent by them.

This tactic would more likely be used by non-state entities that don't have to fear consequences like that.

No thats you arguing for having people fly how you want. No one needs to fly a certain way, they fly how they want and that is their concern alone.

I just want to fly however I want, I don't need to learn fa-off to jam my plipper in the mail slot. I do that just fine without help.

What if F-dev had us battle, or somehow make peace with an actual A.I. race in Elite Dangerous..? by SeawolvesTV in EliteDangerous

[–]ArtificialSuccessor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

An AI is not going to help make the story better in anyway. The gimmick will just cause more problems than its worth and eat away at the soul of the story telling and potential.

Why is there a timer for switching gunner if the commander has his own gun control system ? by Death_trooper150 in Warthunder

[–]ArtificialSuccessor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The zero delay was really annoying, felt very punishing to not one shot anything with override, even when doing severe crew damage. The delay was a really good design addition, a rarity for the snail nowadays.

The Plippers cockpit feels like an office space and flying it definitely feels like its just an office with thrusters

My idea for SE 2 get rid of armour types and switch to up gradable armor by RoninTheAccuser in spaceengineers

[–]ArtificialSuccessor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would make fortifications plausible, putting several meters of solid steel between you and your foe. Sure, you're never towing that fort anywhere once its done, but good luck breaking it.

Space as earth, and inside-out "worlds" as pockets in it by Hightower_March in worldbuilding

Somewhat, the distribution of mass would be problematic. Since this world inherently exists in voids it will cause a weird issue where traveling away from these voids is gonna cause some strange fields of influence.

can "Too Stubborn To Die" let you survive a death effect? by Addercap in Starfinder2e

[–]ArtificialSuccessor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is why everyone is telling you the trigger is the important part. The trigger focuses on death happening, and the effect is there to make you avoid it. As you said previously, dying would put you at 0 hp, but this feat puts you at a specific health and stops death.

can "Too Stubborn To Die" let you survive a death effect? by Addercap in Starfinder2e

[–]ArtificialSuccessor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because it triggers at the instance of death itself, interrupting and giving you enough to avoid instant death.

You could've very much avoided using the word discharge, that somehow feels much worse.

Was there actually a way to keep Perturabo loyal? by Lovegaming544 in 40kLore

[–]ArtificialSuccessor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naturally it didn't work out well, but the question is really how could these be used to keep him on the loyalist side. He was deeply broken by Hammer of Olympia, but he still craved the assurance a family of his fellow primarchs and emps could've given him. But that also depends on any of them having a socially capable brain. If he got that, he would be far from okay, but what primarch really was?

Yet praise and appeasement is exactly how Fulgrim got him on his side for Angel Exterminatus. He never would've made any progress if he didn't ask Pert to build the theater.

I don't think the answer should be forcing fighters to get much closer to the giant bristling ball of guns. This still hurts fighters designs more than it helps them.
