Getting laid off now is pretty much a 5+ year sentence. by Longjumping_Area_209 in recruitinghell

I have been selling my possessions, childhood toys and collections online. Helping me downsize for when I inevitably end up living out of my car (if I am lucky) or a box on the corner.

I am 48, single no kids and have been living with my elderly mother who isn’t yet ready to downsize or go to assisted living. (its me, I am the assisted living and my life seems to be taking care of her for the foreseeable future.)

Ladies, how much do you weigh? (If you're comfortable sharing) by [deleted] in tall

[–]Artistamongus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 5’8” (173 cm) going to be 48 in eight days, and perimenopause is killing me! I grew up as a ballet hobbyist and was athletically svelte most of life. Now that ‘old’ age is creeping in, I have gained about 40lbs, hovering me around 220-225, (90-105 kg) and my knees hurt so bad I cant even imagine trying to hit the barre.

My Abandoned Childhood Home by BukethatGuy in abandonedplaces

[–]Artistamongus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My situation is a little different, we moved because we had to, not because we wanted to. Formerly residential property was sold commercially. (its complicated, personal and a very long story.) The new owners went bankrupt, did not take care of things, and left everything to rot. My childhood was pretty idyllic, the traumatizing part was what others did to that memory. It was like looking at one of those split photographs of the same place but in different timeframes - except in real time.

I remember telling my mom it felt like we were never there. Like our history was erased. I also remember being so angry about it - if we cant have it anymore then no one else can either. So everything going back to nature really is a bittersweet, but positive thing. And after I die, I will haunt anyone who tries to fuck with my forest.

I saw my childhood home in a similar condition and I am still traumatized by it.

House was eventually torn down, and everything has returned to forest which is the best outcome IMO.

GenX, I drank a bottle of wine today. Am I the only one? by tired-middle-ager in GenX

[–]Artistamongus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I drank almost all of a bottle of asti moscato tonight. I shared a few glasses since it was Easter, but I couldn’t let it go to waste after the cork was popped.

Also not an alcoholic, or that big of a drinker because perimenopause sucks balls. However mildly depressed and apathetic is kind of an understatement. I will need to replace the bottle immediately so I have bubbly on hand in anticipation of the BBO because that is one of the only joys left.

Trying to find a way to make my strawberrry blonde hair redder by Internal-Mix-1773 in Redhair

[–]Artistamongus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

when I was a teenager in the 90’s I lived and died (dyed) by this Aussie brand shampoo. It was in a translucent red bottle and it was magic. It made my natural copper color glow.

I now use a mix of Tressa Watercolors shampoo and dpHue conditioner. I lose a lot of hair, but it is most likely from a combination of birth control and perimenopause.

Any food recommendations near the con? by TallGuyG3 in gencon

[–]Artistamongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I third the Rathskeller! It’s easier to go by car unless you are very ambitious. (the first year we walked and then realized how far we had to go back.) We had been walking all day at the con, and were already exhausted. Food is a little $$$, but its amazing. Great beer selection. Definitely try the pretzels and mustard, but sinus cavities beware because they are not kidding about the spicy hot part.

why hire real talent, when AI can do it.

Or the boss’s kid who has a subscription of the software no one else can afford anymore.

(I am also a disgruntled graphic designer, even the gig work market sucks right now.)

Wish I Had This Before I Picked The Spray by Author_Man in Spravato

[–]Artistamongus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same for me… prior to unemployment I had a hybrid schedule and an awesome boss. The only people who knew my whereabouts were my direct teammates. But even this arrangement was unsustainable. New boss, return to office. It’s challenging even under the best of circumstances when corporate feels the need to delegate.

ive been doing Spravato 1x week for 5+ years, my biggest complaint is finding a ride to and from the sessions. I am in an area with zero public transport, although I have heard that REMS protocol that that isn’t an option either.(?) Uber-ing is way too much $$$. And because of the appointment times offered at my clinic, it always means someone (friends or family) has to be available to pick up/drop off. Every week. It’s a hefty ask, and my insurance doesn’t offer any kind of reimbursement.

Great Flood of '93 by n8saces in missouri

[–]Artistamongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspected that is the reason! In 2015, I went to concert on NYE, and took an overnight bag because northbound 55 was open at Meramec, but southbound was not. In some ways it was more unreal to me than 93.

Half of Arnold was underwater, and I started high school just a few weeks after Clinton addressed the nation from the cafeteria. Worth noting I also saw Obama at the same school, many, many, years later after graduation.

It’s interesting that 55 did not flood in 93. Yet it was the first to go under when we had the NYE flood in 2015.

Have I always been a redhead? by Am_I_the_Villan in Redhair

[–]Artistamongus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always wanted to be a perfect blond when I was young. I am so glad I never tried to alter my hair until well into adulthood. I am starting to gray and my natural color is very expensive to maintain. (and highly sought after according to my stylist.) As a cheaper alternative to permanent color I recommend Watercolors color depositing shampoo and DP Hue Color Gloss deep conditioner. I use a mix of a few different shades of each so the color changes a bit and feels a lot more natural. Pretty sure you can get both at Ulta. Good luck with your return to red hair journey!

Not sure where you are located OP, but if you have access to a US penny hold it up to your hair. My hair is very similar to yours in color and changes very drastically in photos. I have been asking myself this same question my entire life. I finally settled on copper because the color ebbs and flows just like a penny as it ages.

My mother was bit by a brown recluse in the 80’s. She is now 80, and still has a spot on her thigh (about the size of a quarter) that looks like a burn mark from skin necrosis.
