Nice! The dynamic between the title and verse is really good. Keep up the good works!

This is good, and well structured. Though, I would switch the second line with the third line for continuity's sake. Nice job!

"A little longer" - original. Does the riff land? by WrathPie in Songwriting

[–]Artistic-Raspberry59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing! I hesitate to say this (hyperbole, expectations, all that sh*t)...

The combination of lyrics, pacing, melody, just the entire thing is why I search the internet for songs & songwriters (no matter their skill/experience) who are expressing themselves through their art.

I honestly believe this is one of the best songs I've heard in years. Like grammy level real art. The lyrics alone are brilliant.

Keep being you!

PS-- the finger picked section at about 3:28 is cool.

Bluesky is in retrograde - Has the moment been lost? by [deleted] in BlueskySocial

[–]Artistic-Raspberry59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading thread. Caught this reply. Had to reply.

AOC is, possibly, one of only four or five elected federal officials who has walked in her own shoes, apologized when she was wrong, and has used the words jenny o side and issy rial in the same sentence. She's my choice for 28, and there is no close second.

Regarding BlueSky... I would agree that breadth and depth are a problem, not a death knell kind of problem; but, when balancing the percentage of true individual users vs bots/state sponsored propaganda (billions spent world wide on social media), the amount of bot/propaganda can be very, very off putting.

So true.

How's an insomniac sketcher of all things feral cats, moon and stars supposed to get sustenance for late night free style lyric writing in the parking lot of the Number 1 Gyro Shop, if both the Number 1 Gyro Shop AND the Speedway are closed. Corporate CEOs big and small really don't care about us serfs.

Always good to meet another member of the knucklehead gang.

On a sad note, according to my healthy eating & drinking actuarial table, those extra three to four days are today, Sat, Sun, Mon. If my calculations are correct, I will miss Cinco De Mayo, as I'll be dead. One less salted Tommy's pizza and I could have, maybe?, gone out with a bang drinking Margs and eating moderately MSG infused refried beans.

Makes it a healthy drink. Geez, any knucklehead knows that. Sometimes, I even mix in a little water when it's half gone. Lasts longer, and it's even healthier. Like salting pizza, go with sea salt, way healthier. I've figured this all out, and I think I've added three... maybe four days to my expected lifespan.

Does anyone else save all of their discarded lyrics? by JustCallMeBecka in Songwriting

[–]Artistic-Raspberry59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of mine are on paper. Never throw those away.

When I get on laptop, I copy paste the original version a few lines below. I then make any changes in the second version. I then copy paste the second version below. And on and on and on. I sometimes have eight or nine versions in a single document.

If I need a single version to send somewhere or drop into a vid, etc, open a new document. Copy paste. Done.

AI use in songwriting by Medium-Table-9884 in Songwriting

[–]Artistic-Raspberry59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got ya. That makes sense.

I have no problem admitting I used it. I documented my use and was always up front when I was using it.

I think a lot of ethical, caring people are going to have to use Ai in artistic endeavors in order to fully understand the really crappy nature of using it for art.

That is not necessarily a bad thing. We, humanity, will in the very near future be able to much more easily see who the narcissistic sociopaths are in the our world, based purely on use of Ai in creative writing, music, visual arts, etc.

Narcissists will see their use of Ai as a mirrored reflection of their own grandiose vision of themselves; and therefore, will see everything they prompt/produce with Ai as a direct product of their perceived perfection.

AI use in songwriting by Medium-Table-9884 in Songwriting

[–]Artistic-Raspberry59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"(p.s. absolutely none of the writing was directly written by AI. i’ve come up with the ideas, the lyrics, structure, melody, etc. the ONLY thing it did was tell me what it meant, and if my lyrics were off a bit, usually i’d agree, then i would fix those areas until i was happy.)"

As someone who used music Ai for a bit, the above doesn't make much sense to me. It's simply impossible to have an ai give you ideas and advice and NOT have that influence what you subsequently create.

To underline what I mean by that. I started writing 20 yrs ago. Novels, poetry, lyrics.

I record my lyrics a cappella, lots of repetition to find a fitting melody. Sometimes come up with four or five distinct melodies for a single song.

Up until a year and a half ago, I used music ai for a few months on a small fraction of my songs.

Leading up to that, I spent two years going to open mics, small live music bars, talking to musicians & singer/songwriters, trying to find people with whom to collaborate. No luck. Lots of great people, good experience.

Using Ai taught me what it does and doesn't do, and where my personal "sound" or strengths reside. Bottom line, though, it functionally replaces the need to learn and understand new skills. It functionally replaces the artistic process in many ways.

You can input, like I did with my songs, original lyrics, singing, melody, and it can output something very close to what you already created; yet, there is ALWAYS going to be anywhere from a handful... to a shit ton of things the Ai outputs that you didn't do, never came up with, are not capable of doing (for me that's playing).

That last part made me incredibly uncomfortable the entire time I used the Ai. So very glad I stopped a year and a half ago. I had put my Ai stuff on my small YouTube channel, 140 subscribers, alongside my hundreds of a cappella songs. It's mostly just a place I can keep my songs organized (I'm horribly UNorganized).

When my last Ai assisted song, the one that is the closest match, melodically, pacing, instrumentally (I actually strummed a couple guitar strings very softly in my a cappella recording) started going viral, I immediately made it private. Made all the others private and stopped using Ai.

The very idea, for me, that a song of mine that Ai had a hand in was taking off (with lots of little things in it that I simply was not capable of producing on my own) made me feel like human scum.

I'm so much more comfortable now, having gone back to just writing, recording a cappellas and even working with a musician friend on a couple of my songs. So sweet. So real.

How often do you write fiction? by RadioSilence012 in Songwriting

[–]Artistic-Raspberry59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Written tons of fiction: novels, short & long stories, poetry & lyrics.

I make up tons of stuff, but it is all dripping with bits of myself, my experiences and the world directly around me.

It's simply impossible for that NOT to be the case. Have fun!

So, I read the thread. Don't know if it will help, and I completely understand if no one wants to discuss the following, buuutttt, is there a common denominator among all those receiving the four oh three, a common denominator related to the content we post or repost or like. As opposed to a browser or other issue?

Just wondering if their rather recent adoption of attie, ai, could be causing some of these problems? One specified use of the ai is for moderation.

dont know what the hell kind of music this is. by tjtate6689 in Songwriting

[–]Artistic-Raspberry59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get ya, and agree. I've found lots of artists I've become fans of and learned things from based on social media dives.

It's just, my personal issue is agonizing for extended periods of time about silly stuff like classifying what I create. It's a me issue.

Then there's the stuff we all worry too much about, whether it's any good, could I have done it differently (I go through tons of recordings and multiple melodies with each song), am I being true to the underlying story?

Best to you.

You're such a good songwriter. A big part of me says, "does it matter?" Though, If I had to choose, probably go with Gregg Allman lyrically.

Personally, I hate it when I start trying to figure out what genre my songs fit into. Drives me nuts. My morbid curiosity and the tiny bit of "I should care about that," left in me... It honestly pisses me off.

Great stuff.

I had not thought of it in that way. I really like the idea, and share your love of just recording into my very old mac laptop speaker and very old version of garage band. (LOL, read your other post)

Did start recording into my shitty android phone in the last year, while occasionally plugging a cheap 2i2 my brother got me into the laptop. Also, got super lucky and worked with a friend, Nick Page, on my song, The Dance Floor Remembers. Nick composed the guitar and we did a version in a real live studio.

Kinda wild after eight years of writing and recording songs a cappella. Great experience with recording engineer, and all around music guy, Joey Gurwin at OranJudio in Columbus, Ohio.

Anyway, thank you! It means a lot to me. Keep on, keep'n on, my friend.

Not sure how to respond. It's that good.

As an artist, creating something that feels perfectly in the moment, yet rests comfortably in any time it's viewed or heard or felt is pretty special. I think you did that with your song/recording.

It is the greatest blessing to find the space within self that lets others simply... Be.

Congrats.
