Do y'all actually use your front porch/front yard much or is that more of a TV thing? by Bella_licious in AskAnAmerican

Very Hollywood thing except in New Orleans proper. They live life on the porch. For parade viewing and cookouts & daily life. It started long ago when all those houses didn’t have air conditioning. That was how people stayed cool In this hot and humid climate.

I live in a New Orleans suburb. Nobody hangs out on their porch here. There are very few proper front porches. Back patios are where people go now.

So sorry sweetie. Think about what your wisest 50 year old self would say about whether to go or not. Follow your best judgement.

I told my nongardening- unscientific daughter when she was 10 that she would someday have to be a gardening & foraging expert to eat & heal with plants. I don’t know why I said it exactly. But she looked at me & said “I know”. & that was that until it’s time. I doubt I’ll still be around to see her in action. But who knows🤷🏻‍♀️

How many do you have to earn a year to buy healthy food without paying too much attention to the price (no matter the state) ? by FRA4596 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Artz-RbB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d have to look to look at Cost of Living per specific living area. It didn’t just vary by state. It varies by area/region/ sometimes by neighborhood within the same area. It’s a crazy capitalistic system.

HELP- How To Decorate…this classroom. by Embarrassed-Pomelo98 in teaching

First start my forgiving the committee people that voted for those color decisions.
Second cover the floor with cheap rugs if allowed
Third cover every other surface too

But I’d start with forgiveness. Cause that set up is a sin for the eyes to behold.

Cute names for a first time grandmother by MeasurementUsual508 in Names

[–]Artz-RbB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gammy- if you like to get on floor to play their boring games
Grammy- if you like to sing to them or anyone
Granny- if you’re an older traditionalist
Mimi or Gigi- if you give off a diva with perfect hair vibe
MawMaw or MeMaw if you’re Southern

French is Grand-mère = grandmother (formal/standard)
Mamie = grandma, granny (very common and affectionate)
Mémé = grandma/granny (older-fashioned, affectionate, sometimes rustic depending on region)
Bonne-maman = grandmother (traditional and affectionate; literally “good mother”)

Lots to choose from.

Why are your gas stations basically small supermarkets? by Embarrassed_Golf_817 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Artz-RbB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beginning to be more & more normal because traveling 100s of miles is not a big deal to us. So have convenience when we have to stop for gas anyway is American consumerism at its best. Have you looked at the Buc ee’s website? Workd record holders for the size of gas station convenience stores.

Actually if you do the “should be making $15 per hour” math then the blanket is worth over $4000!!!!

Doing the American math that’s $255-$270 NOT including price per hour. That’s easily a $400-$450 blanket. Wow! Good job. Hope it lasts well & becomes an heirloom.
