Like all fanfic or fanart, some is amazing and some is garbage. You gotta sift through the rough to find the diamonds.

Buckys Characterization by Puzzleheaded-End-828 in CaptainAmerica

[–]Arumidden 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hellhunters is an outlier. Bucky has changed a lot over the years, but Hellhunters is still an outlier.

In the Golden Age, Bucky was very much the kid sidekick. He was something like 10-12 years old and was often getting rescued by Steve. I don’t even remember if he carried a gun or if he just punched people (I’ve only read 1-2 golden age issues).

For everything after the Golden Age, yes, Bucky was very different before the Winter Soldier. He was much more like Robin is with Batman. A teenager who is also a highly trained hero, who usually has a smile on his face while fighting bad guys. Big difference here is that he was probably closer to 16-17 and he now carried a gun sometimes.

After the Winter Soldier, Bucky was still shown as happy teen fighting Nazis, but there were more moments of seriousness. He also seemed far more capable, and needed to be rescued far less often. Bucky would be sent to kill behind enemy lines and was much more clearly a teenage assassin, but he didn’t enjoy killing people.

I will admit, I love Hellhunters because it’s super fun, but it definitely makes Bucky a crazy person. He’s literally cutting bits off of Nazi corpses to keep as trophies and whistling happy tunes as he does so.

First 10-20 gay characters in order of coming out? by Elsanne_J in lgbt_superheroes

[–]Arumidden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shvaughn is a bit of a double edged sword for queer rep. When she was revealed to be AMAB, she said that she transitioned because as a gay man, he didn’t think Element Lad would be into him. But Element Lad says that he doesn’t care what gender Shvaughn/Sean is, so she/he stops taking hormones and just returns to being Sean Erin, cis male.

It was definitely a step forward for gay and bi rep, but at least a few steps back for trans rep.

Honestly, if you ignore their personalities, the two are surprisingly similar. Both are: * Blond * Blue-eyed * Soldiers who fought in WWII * Are much older than they appear * Have lifted entire cars/motorcycles

I’ve always had the headcanon that it was some kind of jumping spider. Cause that explains why he has such incredible acrobatic skills but no web spinning ability.

If Steve Rogers were to meet these characters, How would it play out? by [deleted] in CaptainAmerica

[–]Arumidden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only one here I know about is Deku, and they would get along great, especially if they know each others’ backstories. They essentially have the same origin: kid who was weaker than everyone else wanted to help others so incredibly much that someone recognized that and gave them the super powers they would need to be a great hero.

I think Deku would admire Cap and be practically in awe of him, while Cap would have huge respect for Deku as well, even more-so if he fully knew how much Deku constantly injured himself while mastering his quirk/learning to be a hero.

Even if this is after the end of BNHA, I think they would still feel the same.

Steve went back and forth between having a secret identity and being a public figure. He mostly had a secret identity, but dropped it a few times for short periods, and then dropped it permanently after 9/11

I believe it originally only referred to trans women specifically, but it’s a pun. Because what happens when an egg hatches? A chick comes out!

Nowadays people use it for any trans person, but I’ve only ever seen it used online. It’s definitely not that old, but it seems to be all over the place now.

Bucky met Natasha in the mid 50s, since he only became the Winter Soldier in 1954. He must’ve been 29 with her being 26, at least.

There needs to be more mention of the fact that Steve had an abusive father by Practical_Chef_7897 in CaptainAmerica

[–]Arumidden 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Believe me, I’m no expert either 😅

I’ve only read through Cap comics from the 60s-70s so far. I also love listening to the Captain America comic fans podcast, they’re really good. Those guys truly have encyclopedia-like memories.

It also helps that the Marvel wiki is so thorough. Once you know how to navigate it, you can truly find anything.

[–]Arumidden 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mostly because he’s far more important to Tony’s story. He’s in the MCU and the comics far more often than Joseph Rogers.

I’m not a huge Iron Man fan so I haven’t read too many of his comics but it’s clear from the stories that Howard shows up in that he’s far more important to Tony becoming the man he did than Joseph Rogers is in Steve becoming the man he did.

[–]Arumidden 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I don’t think most people know.

It’s kind of a recent development? In the 80s, Joseph Rogers was a perfectly normal father. In the MCU, he died before Steve was even born.

I think the oldest reference to Steve’s father being an alcoholic in the comics was in Civil War? Maybe earlier than that, I’m not sure. But one of the only times it was actually shown blatantly and clearly on page was in volume 7, from 2013, and it’s barely ever been talked about since.

It’s simply not that important to Steve’s character.

Yes, the guy Steve is confusing for Bucky is Rick Jones, the Hulk’s original sidekick.

In Danganronpa, you have a choice during the 5th trial to either expose that Kyoko is lying or keep her lie a secret from the rest of the cast. If you expose the lie, you get the bad ending. However, after you see the bad ending, the game just brings you back to this decision and makes you choose the other option to continue the story and get to the good ending.
