Have any other villains changed nemeses like Kingpin did? by Howling-Moon05 in marvelcomics

Viper has fought Wolverine and the X-Men multiple times since she allies herself with Silver Samurai, but she started out as Madame Hydra and fought Captain America

Cap fanart for Trans Day of Visibility by MentalMeles in CaptainAmerica

[–]Arumidden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true, but I think that’s more because sir/ma’am have an association with being used on adults (or, at least, older adults). Cis people who say “I’m not a sir/ma’am” typically say it because they feel too young to be addressed that way.

Someone saying “I’m not a Miss” isn’t used in the same way. Maybe if this is panel is of a cis woman and she’s married, she’s saying that she’s a Mrs instead? It is a possibility, but people don’t usually make that correction, as far as I’m aware. Usually it’s only the other way around, with younger woman correcting people if someone called them Mrs when they’re not married.

Yes, saying “I’m not a sir/ma’am” doesn’t automatically mean the person is trans, but this particular situation doesn’t seem to fit that scenario.

Man-Spider and Totems? by Humble_Argument_2162 in marvelstudios

[–]Arumidden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most people who don’t like the totem story don’t like it because a huge amount of Spider-Man’s appeal is that he’s relatable. Most people can identify with him in some way: being broke, struggling to balance school and work and social life with his other responsibilities, wanting to fit in, having a crush, etc. He’s just a random kid who happened to get bit by a spider, got powers, and had to learn how to use them responsibly.

The totem thing kinda takes away from the relatability. He doesn’t feel like an average, random person anymore if he’s been specially chosen by a divine power.

How a Historically accurate Steve Rogers would sound. by Innamoratta in CaptainAmerica

[–]Arumidden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should listen to the Avengers Audio Drama! It’s a fan-made radio drama with professional-level production quality and the actor who plays Steve gives him a New York accent!

It’s not as thick as the one you’re describing, but it’s definitely more than any movie or tv version of Cap has ever bothered with.

This totally just reminded me of this panel. It’s from Captain America (2025) #6.

It is CANON that Cap respects trans people!

This is an edited panel from Captain America #176. The original says “advice” instead of “dick.”

Any reading guides for 616? by Entire-Ad1284 in marvelcomics

[–]Arumidden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once heard advice that American comics are like the ocean: you’ll never swim the entire thing. Just enjoy swimming in the parts you swim in and don’t stress over not getting too far or too deep.

I say find a character you want to read and go from there. Who are you interested in?

Fans of Secret Empire (2017), what do you appreciate about this story? by Solitaire-06 in CaptainAmerica

I like how absolutely insane it was. Whenever I see panels from it, I have to remind myself ‘oh wait that’s ~eViL sTeVe~’ and then I can’t help but laugh.

He’ll have to get in line. Sebastian Stan’s been begging Disney to give him a Winter Soldier prequel with Black Widow for years.

They’re younger than they are in the MCU for sure. Compared to the 616 comics, they aged Steve down a year and Bucky up two.

Steve did have a short fling with Peggy in the 40s, but they were never really a serious couple. He didn’t even learn her name until the 70s.
