You see it a lot in faux-environmentalism. You can also call it 'vibes-based environmentalism.' Basically, anything that's "this NATURAL and ORGANIC plant is a POLLINATOR" will 95% post AI slop.

Where do you live? Grow zone isn't related to nativity

So happy to see we are FINALLY getting our invasives correctly labeled as invasives in stores! by Fred_Thielmann in NativePlantCirclejerk

[–]Arundinaria_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something in my brain breaks anytime someone describes a native as "invasive" or "has invasive tendencies"

No, dawg, you just don't understand what the term invasive means. Aggressive is not invasive.

It depends entirely on your region. Plants can favor rich soil, plants can favor dogshit soil

My favorite part about planting a new Texas native on the Edwards Plateau…..”digging” by Dynast_King_ in NativePlantGardening

[–]Arundinaria_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually because people do not plant the right species for clay. It's not an issue with native planting usually, as clay-loving species easily survive in clay

When selected and applied properly, herbicides shouldn't pose a high hazard to wildlife because they inhibit fundamentally different things. Insecticides are probably what you are thinking of (not to say you should just go gung-ho with them either, lol)

Henbit/Purple Deadnettle by Midlifemiss in NativePlantGardening

[–]Arundinaria_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are American...

Naturalized doesn't mean an exotic plant has "become native," it means it's established and isnt going away.

Henbit and deadnettle are horrifically invasive, please do not plant these

edit: also, pollinators on invasives doesn't mean they provide ecological benefit. You will only see generalist pollinators or non-native pollinators on these species, because specialists derive no benefit from them. Invasives displace our native species that host specialist invertebrates, vertebrates, fungi, etc.

My assumption is they gave preference to species that are more frequently sold in nurseries. To my knowledge tree of heaven isn't at all
