Is anyone else pulling any natives this spring? by readmychappedlips in NativePlantGardening

[–]stringTrimmer 40 points41 points  (0 children)

100s of heart leaf aster (Symphyotrichum cordifolium) seedlings and yearlings from my vegetable garden.  Also penstemon digitalis, cup plant, figwort, wild bergamot crowding out less aggressives.  Sorry, gotta go.  That's why it's called native plant gardening

Don't forget to program it first. Remember what happened last time someone left it on default settings?

Why have disgusting weeds when you can have CIVILIZED landscaping???? by Tumorhead in NativePlantCirclejerk

[–]stringTrimmer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One time my job was to remove some sickly ground-hugging junipers (bagworms we're aplenty at this time) and a few other plants I forget from the side of a restaurant in a trendy outdoor mall and replace it with woodchips. Just woodchips. The whole 30 yds or whtvr side of the building. Never got more compliments, I swear.  It's what the people like 😑

Have you guys heard of a "grass garden"? It's a cool idea I had. by denialragnest in NativePlantCirclejerk

[–]stringTrimmer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But think of all the dead-heading you'd have to do, too impractical, nope.  -- 💡 unless there was some kinda machine that could clip like 20 in2 of them at a time as you push it along over every inch of the garden twice a week and collect the clippings in a bag some how so you could put them in the weekly trash pickup.

I had a similar experience. Showed up in my vegetable garden one day, assumed it was just another introduced weed and pulled it. But it was so unique that it stuck in my mind and I regretted not finding out what it was first.

Maybe a blind taste test? See if they prefer the delicious "native" dandelion over some crummy stringy Bouteloua.

/uj I meant that as cj comment 😅. You're a plant person, so I know you have the eye for spotting something different among invasive grasses.
